1. I went and did a little thing with my hair this week! Here’s where it was at before…
And here’s the after!
We cut quite a bit off, but I’m actually going back to do a little tweaking to the color because it didn’t come out quite like we were hoping (was trying to get a little bit of a warmer color overall, and the blonde pieces got a little too light for me!). So it may look a bit different after tonight, color-wise, but it felt SO good to give it a little chop!
2. If you’re on Facebook and want a REALLY good chuckle, go do your yourself a favor and check out the comments on this post from Life of Dad. I was legit laughing out loud (almost crying!) at a bunch of them. One of my personal favorites… “Did you ever stop to think you deserve it? Around here snitches get stitches!” GO READ IT.
3. This picture basically portrays how I feel every time I get to eat ice cream, too.
My (little) man. <3
4. I finally tried out this new(ish) Chobani with the Almond Butter mixed in, and I’m giving it two thumbs up! I loved how the almond butter helped tame the tartness of the yogurt a bit, and it was just overall good.
5. Anyone else feel me on this one…?
6. We had a coworker in the office last week from Australia and he brought some of these TimTams (cookies? biscuits?). Wowwwww.
I’ve been told they’re actually sold here in the states, no idea if that’s a) true, and/or b) if they are the real deal, but these things are crazy good. Have you tried ’em??
7. Do you have loads of apples on your hands from apple picking? We haven’t gone just yet (apple picking in 80 degree weather isn’t really my jam…hoping we get a little cooler this weekend or next to be able to go!), but once we do, I’m definitely planning on doing a little baking! Here are some of my favorites, in case you need some inspiration for your own apple haul…
- Apple Cinnamon Raisin Baked Oatmeal
- The Best Crockpot Applesauce Ever
- My Favorite Apple Crisp
- Vanilla Glazed Cranberry Apple Cookies
8. So I’m starting to wonder whether or not I may have some sort of allergy or intolerance to…you guys ready for this?… WINE!!
I finally put two and two together recently and realized that, often times when I drink wine, I almost always get really congested, my asthma will start acting up a bit, and my face/sinuses will hurt. Sometimes it’s more/less intense than others, but I can recall it really being bad after drinking sangria made with red wine at a Christmas party last year.
So now I’m all like, what the heck?! The motherhood gods don’t reeeeally expect me to give up wine, do they?! If anyone out there has any experience, suggestions, recommendations…anything! I’m all ears.
9. So I had a little bit of a moment this week. We’ll call it a ‘moment’ just because it really wasn’t a big deal, but it is something I thought might be worth sharing because it’s been a while since I dove into anything other than surface level. It was brief, but it surprised me.
Earlier this week was apparently National Daughters Day. I have many, many wonderful people/friends/family in my life who have daughters, and I had the opportunity to see them share their love, appreciation, and gratitude for them. And then, out of nowhere, that little pang hit me. I’ve touched on this in the past (<–one of my favorite parenthood posts about having 2 kiddos!), but I tried to be very honest about the fact that I did experience some disappointment when I realized we wouldn’t be having a little girl in our family. It probably took me until Alex was just about a year old when I finally felt like I could honestly say that I was okay with that fact. And from that point on, I’ve been good with it. Great, actually! So that’s why I was surprised by my feelings when I saw everyone posting about their sweet daughters, and I felt a little like I was…missing out.
I guess maybe it’s a feeling that will always lie a bit under the surface for me, but that certainly doesn’t mean I’m not okay with it or that I’m unhappy. Because I’ll tell ya, nothing could be farther from the truth.
They’re my ev-er-y-thing.
10. Now don’t anyone go thinking we’re going for a third baby. We good. ; )
Alright, my friends! I wish you all a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend ahead <3
Target sells TimTams!
For the wine maybe try organic or sulfite free wines?? Good luck! Also your two boys are beautiful 💙 but I could understand that pang of no girls
As a mom of 2 boys as well I’m right there with you with those feelings. Definitely always saw myself with at least 1 girl but then I think I was given exactly what I need (and can handle 😉) and there’s nothing like a boys love for their mom! 💙
My husband realized recently that he has developed an “allergy” to beer that he didn’t have before. So he just takes an allergy pill before and he is normally fine.
I have the same issue with wine. I was told it’s the sulfates?
My husband and I have 2 little girls, ages 4 and 2. We had always planned to have only two kids, so when we learned our second child was also a girl, I know that my husband felt a little disappointed. Even though I’ve been the one deadest on only two kids, I still have moments where I wonder what it would be like to have a little boy. It’s usually a fleeting thought because, honestly, I feel like I would just end up with 3 girls! I feel ya momma!
You can find TimTams at Walmart and Target! They are delicious, but not AS delicious as the ones from Australia.
Hi Courtney!
I’ve been a long time reader, and I actually remember one of your posts years ago (maybe 10 years ago ish) you had trouble with certain brands of wine. If it’s certain brands that could be the sulfites, but red wine is very high in histamine. I actually was misdiagnosed with many food intolerances for years, and just this past week found out it was all a misdiagnosis and was histamine build up all along. Red wine is very high in histamine, so perhaps it’s that?
Hope this helps!
TimTams are so good. I studied abroad in Australia and was introduced there but I have seen them in Wegmans before. Also I love your hair cut. I have never done anything drastic with my hair.
you have such gorgeous hair – I have hair envy!
I totally get your “moment”. I love my 2 boys more than words, but I had that same feeling of disappointment when I initially found out I was having another boy. Although I can’t imagine my life any other way now, I think I’ll always feel like I’m sort of missing out on having a daughter and those posts definitely got me a bit! Glad to have other “boy moms” to relate to!! 💙💚
You just had me reading some of your older posts around life with two kids. My daughter is 11 months old, and while there is no rush, we’re starting to think about giving her a sibling in the future, but I had pretty terrible PPD/PPA as well as a colicky reflux newborn, so I’m feeling apprehensive about starting all over again. I love how honest you are in your posts about the struggles as well as the good times!
My dad has the same issue with wine- but red wine is much worse! He sticks to white and is typically ok 👍🏼
I have issues with Red Wine and when I was speaking with a wine rep he told to try wines that were made in steal barrels. If you have an allergy to Oak drinking wines that are made in Oak barrels could cause your allergies to flare up.
That should be steel barrels
I agree with the comments about trying organic wine. My mom has allergies to the sulfites in wine. The TimTams look delicious!
Completely relate with your feelings on Daughter’s Day earlier this week. I too experienced some depressed feelings when reading everyone’s posts about it on Facebook. I have not yet been blessed with any children of my own in this life (though we’re trying!) and things like that just sting a little extra. I would LOVE to experience motherhood, boy or girl. Thanks for being real with us and sharing the good and the less-than-good. <3
We found out we are having our second boy in November and I felt disappointed when we found out, and then extremely guilty for feeling that way, I just always pictured myself with a daughter. Those posts made me a little sad too and brought back those feelings of disappointment. I am so lucky my baby is healthy and I know I will love him SO much as soon as he is here. Thanks for being real! Your boys are absolutely adorable and I hope mine become best buddies too.
I’ve become very intolerant of wine in the past couple of years too! 😭😭😭😭 Even one glass can turn into sneezing for hours the next day. For me its the histamines and I used to find that red wine made me worse than white, but now white does it too. Sometimes a benedryl (which doesn’t make me sleepy though I know it knocks most people out,) before I have a drink helps but sometimes not. I’ve pretty much switched over to either Truly’s or a margarita using Tres Agaves Margarita Mix if I want an adult beverage!
I’ve seen the Tim Tams at Target before! They are so yummy, I love them too 😊
Also, from the sounds of it, you could have a sulfite allergy. Sulfite is a good additive that can be an allergen. They do make sulfite-free (usually organic) wines, so maybe you could try one and see if there is a difference.
Sorry, I meant to say food additive not good additive*
I have the same reaction with wine and have found it’s caused by a histamine intolerance. It’s a pretty common sensitivity. I had no idea – look it up if you get a chance!
Your hair looks beautiful!
You have such adorable little boys! Thanks for always being so honest!
Thank you so much for your candid share about daughters! Ironically, we just found out today we are having a girl, but both felt we would have preferred a boy. Above all else, we are blessed to be pregnant, and that she is healthy, but just wanted to share from the flip side. Love and appreciation for your honesty!! Xoxo
Thanks for being so open about your thoughts on National Daughter Day! Trust that you are not alone in this sentiment – many moms I know of two boys (for some reason, I know a lot), have felt this exact same way and its totally normal. I have a girl and we are trying for another baby now, and my husband and I both feel like it’ll be another girl. While I’m ok with that, I think he will be disappointed.
LOVE the iced coffee “Friends” meme – change that iced coffee to frapuccinos, and you have the story of my life! Lol!
I’ve been avoiding Starbucks for that very reason. ;-)
It was National Son’s Day a few days later! I do have two boys and a girl. So I don’t feel the disappointment that I won’t experience a daughter or son but I sometimes have it over not having more kids. Sometimes I wish I had one more and I’m disappointed that I think financial reasons came into play in our decision. I mean I grew up in a family of five kids, I had friends with seven and eight children in their families. It’s just so rare now but I kind of wish it wasn’t.
