This post is brought to you by a STSL sponsor.
On Saturday afternoon, Lucas and I spent some time putting together some bags of nonperishable foods to give to a local food pantry. Bitsy’s Brainfood sent us a generous case of snacks to share last week with our favorite local organization. While there are many options that we have in our area, I decided to donate our bags of nonperishables, along with the case of Bitsy’s Brainfood snacks, to The Food Pantries for the Capital District.
I had picked up a few extra items the last time I went grocery shopping, so we packed up some soup, vegetables, peanut butter, cereals, and a few other items.
Lucas was, of course, willing to put anything he could get his hands on into the bags, so we had to work on that a bit.
For this year, Lucas is still a bit young to understand the concept of giving back, but it’s something I plan to continue to instill in him as he gets older. Even though we talked about giving food to those who might not have as much as we do, and how “sharing is nice,” it’s still a bit of a work in progress. Lucas tends to think everything is “mine” right now.
But although he may not quite get it yet, I think the idea of giving back, especially around the holiday season, is so incredibly important. And I love how much of it I see as I make my way through town or browse the internet (the Huffington Post recently had a great article with 21 ways to give back, as did Glamour).
All of this is one of the reasons I’ve become such a huge fan of Bitsy’s Brainfood. Their program, Giving a Bitsy Back, focuses on giving back to organizations, preschools, and elementary schools in need, by donating cases of Bitsy’s Brainfood snacks. Their goal is not just to give away their food, but to bring their mission to kids everywhere.
You can really tell that they’re an organization who feels strongly about what they do and about fueling our young ones with not only nutritious food, but good values as well. Lucas loves eating the snacks and pointing out the letters as he eats them, which is always a win for me, too.
And sometimes we even dip them in yogurt for a little fun.
But if you’re at all interested in learning more about their mission, or want to apply on behalf of a school organization, you can find out more information here.
And in the season of giving back, I’d love for all of you to have the chance to try Bitsy’s Brainfood for yourselves (and your kiddos). So I’m going to offer to give away a package of Bitsy’s goodies to a lucky STSL reader! To enter, just leave a comment on this post sharing why you’d like to try (or already love!) Bitsy’s Brainfood!
I’ll choose a winner on Friday, December 11th. Good luck!
This post is sponsored by Bitsy’s Brainfood, but the giveaway is being provided by me. Thank you all for your continued support surrounding sponsored content on STSL. <3
