Good Eats and Holiday Weekend Highlights

By Courtney 38 Comments

Well I already shared our Thanksgiving holiday with you guys, but there was still a whole long, holiday weekend that I have some highlights from to share!

First things first…you guys. I have been craving cinnamon buns like, reeeeeeallll bad. I swear, every freakin time I hop on Pinterest, one of the first pins staring me back in the face is a beautiful, delicious looking cinnamon roll. Well, since they aren’t exactly the quickest or easiest thing to make, it’s not like I’d been able to fulfill my craving.

UNTIL Black Friday.

IMG_4882

I woke up at like, 6am, and couldn’t get back to sleep. I’m not sure if it was because I was trying to decide whether or not to go out shopping or what, but I was AWAKE. Then I started thinking about cinnamon buns and I realized, hey, now’s the perfect time! So I made a batch of my favorite no-yeast required ones. Amazinggggg.

Black Friday was a rather productive one at our house. For one, the weather was GORGEOUS. Seriously…60 degrees and sunny. I didn’t want it to end! So we made sure to take advantage and spent some time outside, including trying to straighten out a tree in our front yard that ended up tipping big time in a wind storm a month or two ago.

IMG_4885

We also started doing a little bit of Christmas decorating (actually, I started that the day before Thanksgiving, but no tree until Friday).

Had to stop for a quick lunch…salads are sounding more and more enticing these days, which is definitely a good thing.

IMG_4887

And then much of the afternoon and early evening was back to decorating, along with my favorite little helper.

IMG_4895

We’re getting there!

IMG_4898

IMG_4899

I’ve got to find something else cute to put up on the ledge with our tree, and I’m thinking some rolled cotton to lay on the ground, too.

IMG_4897

Eeeeek, I just love decorating for Christmas, especially in a new home! Smile

IMG_4903

Since we got so busy around the house on Friday, we kept dinner simple and ordered pizza (Hawaiian) and wings (honey mustard BBQ…WOW, so good!).

IMG_4896

On Friday night, I started feeling pretty crappy on the cold/asthma front, so I laid low. I also somehow lost my nebulizer for my asthma in the move, so to help ease my symptoms, I sat outside on the porch for a good 45 minutes or so.

IMG_4902

Good thing it was nice out!

I woke up with my asthma doing better on Saturday, but the cold was still sort of ‘meh.’ I ran out at one point to just get out of the house for some fresh air and decided to stop at Starbucks for my first hot drink in months. Still no coffee for me, but their hot chocolate is rather freakin’ delicious.

IMG_4905

You’ve gotta try it!

Lucas wound up getting a little antsy on Saturday, and since my parents were home, they offered to watch him for a couple of hours for a change of scenery. Once I got back, Jay and I tried to figure out what to do for dinner, but since neither of us really felt like cooking (again), we wound up heading to a nearby restaurant, Garlic Lovers’ Corner.

For the locals, you’ve GOTTA try it!!!

We started off with an order of tzatziki with fresh, warm pita bread and it was incredible. Seriously.

IMG_4908

Then for my dinner, I ordered their Chicken Toscana (marinated and grilled chicken topped with sautéed spinach, roasted red peppers and melted provolone cheese in a light garlic white wine sauce. Accompanied with roasted garlic smashed potatoes).

IMG_4910

Omgggggggg, delicious!!! I could have eaten that meal 10x over. We absolutely made sure to leave with “to go” menus. Winking smile

Highlights from Sunday were minimal, since we really didn’t have all that much going on. We started the day off with Kodiak Cakes though, and that’s always a plus.

IMG_4912

And then there was one major highlight…our farmhouse kitchen table is finally complete!!

IMG_4914

I am absolutely THRILLED with how it turned out, and good news for you guys…Jay actually put together the plans that he used and I’ll be sharing them with you guys soon! The table even extends to add (2) 12” wide leaves, which is awesome. I can’t wait to share with you all!

Does your asthma generally get worse this time of year? Lots of rest to fight off that cold and some extra vitamin C! I took 4 doses of pure 1000mg ascorbic acid on Saturday because I was feeling off and felt amazing by Sunday with 10 hours of sleep under my belt!

The table is gorgeous and I'm going to share it with my handy hubby for a future addition to Casa Gowan! I really want some new accent tables for the living room too so I think this would look great cut down into smaller tables as well.

I blame Pinterest for 90% of my cravings. The food on their is too stinking gorgeous. All of your Christmas decorations are lovely, and I am so excited to see them! I love this time of year so seeing posts like this just makes me more and more excited. That garlic place sounds AMAZING. I put garlic on literally anything that is savory, so I would devour that menu.

Your new house is so nice with Christmas Decor! Love it! And I've got the Cinnamon Roll bug right now, too. Sadly, the ones I made, I'm pretty sure I cooked too long, and they were a little on the hard side. That's never happened before. Time for take two! I will perfect my rolls! lol.

I just LOVE your new table!! I am so excited that you are going to share how to make it because I am going to put my husband up to the task! We have been wanting a new dining room table for a while now, but our current one isn't that old so I have been putting it off. PLus, I haven't wanted to spend tons of money on a new one. I love the while legs with the rustic table top... Jay did a great job!!!
