I almost wasn’t going to put up a post today because I really had nothing good coming to mind to write about. But then I came across Ashley’s post yesterday and got all like, “oh my god I love surveys!” and BAM. A post was born for today. I mean, you guys know me…I love a good survey!
Household chore I actually enjoy: Do people really enjoy household chores? I know some people say that they find cleaning “therapeutic” and all that jazz, but honestly, I do not. Therapeutic for me would be having someone come over to clean my house while I relaxed and did nothing. But since that’s not really in the cards for me these days, I guess I’ll go along with a household chore that I actually “don’t mind,” which is doing laundry. Granted, this does not include folding it or putting it away though…
Biggest house disaster: Oh man…our basement. In the six years we’ve been living in this house, our basement goes through phases. It’s either party ready, cleaned out and awesome, or it quickly becomes the holder of all of our STUFF. And in the past year, as we’ve continued to acquire more stuff for a certain toddler, it all just keeps building and building. I can’t believe I’m going to show you this, but…
Yep, there ya have it. And here’s my tiny workout space that has slowly been taken over by bins and bags of Lucas’s clothes that are too small.
Just so you know, it doesn’t always look this way and the bar is usually much nicer! This is actually one project that Jay and I are planning on tackling in the next few weeks: clearing out, cleaning up, and getting organized again! But seriously…send help.
Before company arrives, I hide: Toys, toys, and more toys. We currently live in a small ranch home, and the majority of Lucas’s toys are currently camped out in our living room (or in the basement, obviously). I try to hide them a bit before people come over, but really, I don’t have too many options. So instead, I “tidy them up” a bit in an effort to make the mess look somewhat organized.
Most recent music download: I hardly ever download music. The last album I downloaded was the Pentatonix Christmas album back in December.
The last thing I bought online: I bought Lucas this set of flashcards and this set of flashcards after seeing them at Sarah and Jeff’s house this past weekend. They were adorable (and they’re a great price!) and I’d been on the lookout for some good ones.
I hate to shop for: I think this old post outlines everything quite nicely, but I’d also add diapers to that list now.
Favorite family ritual: Lately, I’ve actually really been enjoying Lucas’s bedtime as a little family of three. Granted, getting him dressed into his PJ’s isn’t always a walk in the park, but once he’s had his tubby and is dressed, the three of us take that time to just hang out for a bit. We’ll sit on the couch and ask Lucas to point out the different body parts we’re working on, and we’ll talk about our days. Then we’ll head into his room, one of us will sit with him in the rocker to read books and the other will give kisses and say goodnight. It’s really nothing crazy, but there’s just something about those moments that are so special to me and remind me just how lucky I am to have my boys.
I sleep in: Umm, never? Sleep in? What’s that? Then again, I guess that depends on your definition of “sleeping in.” OR, I think I’m actually reading this question wrong, now that I think of it…what do I sleep in? That would be cotton shorts and a t-shirt (I actually have quite a few pieces from Gilligan & O’Malley at Target that I love), but nothin’ fancy (sorry, Jay).
I have a style crush on: I think I’d have to go with Jessica Alba (even if she is my husband’s celebrity crush). I don’t always love her more formal fashion choices (then again, I think I could say that for all celebrities) but I do adore most of her laid back looks.
I’m currently reading: I downloaded The Ladies’ Room a couple of weeks ago after finishing up The Memory Child (SO good, by the way!) but I actually haven’t started reading it yet. For the past, like, three nights, I’ve been saying “I’m going to bed early so I can sit and read for a bit” but then, it just never happens. Maybe tonight will be the night??
What’s up with the ____________ trend? I’m going to follow along with a few others on this here, but really…what is UP with the bullying? It’s getting completely out of control and honestly, it’s just sad. Why can’t we all just get along? Or at least just be civil?
How did I ever live without: My iPhone. And I HATE the fact that I even say that with any amount of truth, but sadly, that is the truth. Life before iPhones (or smart phones, in general) seems like eons ago! I wish that I wasn’t so glued to it but, then again, I do love it. I guess it’s just the nature of the beast?
Well, that was fun! I’m not really sure if this is one of those “tagging” surveys, but I’m going to make it one and go ahead and tag Chelsey, Julie, Monica, and Kristen to partake, if they so wish.
But now it’s your turn! Feel free to pick a few from above and answer them in the comments section below!
love reading these surveys so keep ’em coming! I can’t remember the days before iPhones either. I feel lost without mine!
i don’t mind laundry either – it makes me feel productive! and those flashcards are cute – i just bought william alphabet, words, and numbers flashcards…. from the dollar store haha
The one chore I don’t mind is grocery shopping! I go early in the morning with my favorite coffee and get to plan out our meals for the week. I love my alone time and getting creative!
I love a good survey too! I can’t live without Google. Seriously, what did I do when I needed to know answers to things in the past?
OMG I’m with you! Love me the Google ;)
Ohhh when you said “family of three” it made me feel like you might be pregnant again!! When I’ve heard my friends mention that, it usually follows they are adding another to the mix :) I also don’t mind meal planning and grocery shopping but really don’t like vaccuming!!
Haha, not yet Kate! Hopefully within the next year if we’re lucky! ;) But as of right now, still really just 3 of us :)
This is a great set of questions! I don’t mind laundry either. I think it is because of the dryer sheets, honestly. But I only like to do it if I can fold in front of the tv…
Haha, that picture of Cody made me laugh….cats are so funny! And oh man, I must say I couldn’t live without my iPhone either…..I held out on getting one for years and now I cannot imagine not having one….it just makes life so much easier!
Jessica Alba does have such a great sense of style! She always looks so put together. If she’s your husband’s celeb crush, who’s yours? ;)
Sadly, my biggest crush was always (and still will be) Paul Walker…. :(
How did I ever live without coffee?! It seriously blows my mind!
LOL – amen to THAT!
I LOVE Jessica Alba’s fashion. She just seems so cool. She’s totally my girl crush. It also doesn’t help that I love her company too haha. I did like one formal outfit she had years ago and I think it’s what started me loving her haha
Annnnd I’ll be doing this survey very soon. I do love a good survey.
Seriously – what is UP with the bullying!? I really do not understand it one bit. I have a post sitting in my dashboard semi-related to bullying, but I haven’t hit ‘publish’ yet — mainly because I’m scared of how MY online bullies will bully me. Isn’t that terrible!?
Hit that publish button, girl! You’re always so good about sticking to your guns, which is one of the things I admire about you! :)
Surveys are always so fun. I am rather attached to my i-phone too. It has evolved to be everything – phone, social media, camera. It is the nature of the beast like you said. Bullying is awful and I totally agree with you!
I’m glad I’m not the only one that finds cleaning to not be therapeutic or enjoyable. However, as of yesterday we have a crawler on our hands which means I need to take it more seriously.
Ahhhh yes, SO true!
Love that you showed us a pic of your basement. Mine looks pretty close. Storage central lol! It’s the one project I never get to.
Household chore I enjoy: vacuuming. I love when the carpet looks clean and has those nice lines.
+1 to the carpet lines!!
I live in a one bedroom apartment and let me just say that there is baby stuff EVERYWHERE! It’s crazy. I’ve basically given up on keeping the house nice. I hate putting away laundry too. Something about it just puts me over the edge.
LOL to your “puts me over the edge” comment ;)
i always love reading these when other bloggers post them, but i never do any myself. prob should change that at some point. okay so hmmm…i sleep in cotton boxers and soft t-shirts or tank tops too, and i’m currently reading so many things: i started Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty on the train to school last night, which seems like it will be an easy, girlie sort of read; i’m a third of the way through The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb (which i’m not really loving, but plowing through anyway), and i’m sort of reading The Dream Weaver by Jack Bowen, which is philosophical and whimsical and makes you think. i’m always reading. :)
I need to read more ;)
we should start a virtual book club. i can’t count the # of times i’ve said i need to start a book club… :)
How did I ever live without; NUTELLA :)
I’m a total sucker for a fun survey too. Duh…guess that’s why I did it. ;) So glad you played along too!
Jessica Alba’s casual looks are super cute! I kinda forgot about her!
Haha, your basement is NOTHING compared to ours! It is massive and filled (to the ceiling) of STUFF. there is a small path from the stirs that wraps around to the washer and dryer, but other wise, it is a jungle!
Oh geez, lol, that sounds pretty intense!
Although this has nothing to do with your post today (which per usual, is entertaining! :D ), I wanted to let you know I made the Hawaiian One Pot Pasta you spoke of…delicious! I tweaked the recipe a bit since I had some leftover sausage and no bacon, but it was still such a pleasant surprise from the traditional pasta dishes! Oh, and Chapman (my 10 month old) LOVED it! Score!
Oh, I’m so glad you liked it! But on a different note…I ADORE the name Chapman!!!
Aw, thanks, Courtney!
I think it’s funny that Jessica Alba is your hubby’s celebrity crush, because I seriously can see a resemblance between you and her!!
I’m with you on the cleaning! My boyfriend is a bit of a neat freak, so to him cleaning is therapeutic, but it’s only relaxing to me because too much of a mess makes me anxious. I also don’t mind doing laundry, but according to him, I don’t fold it right(?) so I get out of doing it. Score! Ha!
I’d have to say Olivia Palermo is my style crush. I hated her on The City (guilt pleasures!), but I find myself pinning her looks all the time.
I love this survey! I might have to tag myself on it! Lol…
Isn’t it amazing how much “stuff” you accumulate from your little one outgrowing clothes and toys and things like bouncy seats. Our basement looks like we run a Babies R Us!
Gah I totally feel you on the basement thing! Brave of you to share a picture! My basement isn’t finished and is totally not habitable, so it’s just all storage. We have accumulated SO much already for my baby on the way, it’s not even funny. Her room-to-be also pretty much looks like your basement. As soon as I get new baby stuff, in the “junk room” it does. I really gotta get on that!
I dislike shopping too. I always have a list of what I need and get in and out of the grocery store or mall as fast as I can!
I think the household chore that I don’t mind is grocery shopping, especially early in the morning.
The “I sleep in” comment made me giggle when you apologized to Jay. I try to make comfy pants/shorts and a tank top cute in the summer but in the winter, forget it. There are times when I go to bed with only my face and hands exposed because I am so cold. I do try to match and I also apologize to my husband ;)
My spare bedroom looks like your basement. Seriously where do people store all the baby clothes and toys once they are outgrown. I need more room!
I certainly don’t enjoy cleaning, but laundry is one chore I don’t mind at all. And that’s probably good since it’s never ending ;)
Biggest house disaster: The garage. And now its too cold out there to tackle it. That’s number one on the spring to-do list
Household chore I enjoy: Laundry. It smells good and its so nice to have a bunch of clean clothes to put away
Oh my gosh I love doing laundry too but then when it’s done, I HATE folding and putting it away. My husband swears that I just ‘create’ laundry to do it! There is just something satisfying when the laundry baskets are empty…now that means usually there is a hug pile on my bed to fold ..buuuut :)
Ooh I’ve never seen this House Survey before. I want to do it, but I don’t want to show the messiest part of my house lololol – my husbands gross “cycling room”. Ugh! haha
