When we were in the early stages of designing our home and choosing a plan that was right for us, we were faced with the decision of whether or not we wanted to have a 3 bedroom or a 4 bedroom home. In a world where money doesn’t matter, we would have easily chosen the 4 bedroom…however, we couldn’t justify spending an extra 10k on one extra bedroom.
So, we have three. And it’s completely perfect for us. For one, we’re utilizing our “dining room” as more of an office/playroom, which is great (and also a bit of a disaster at the moment).
And two, we don’t intend (however, I’m not naïve…I know things could change!) to have more than two kids (God willing). Because we have family that lives so close by, we figured that it won’t be totally necessary to have a spare bedroom at all times. Sure, it would be nice, but we’re actually planning on possibly adding one to our basement whenever we finish that off.
As you can see…that’s nowhere near being any time soon…
But for now, we still just have our Lucas, and we wanted to be able to utilize our current spare bedroom as much as possible.
In thinking long term, we know that Lucas is going to eventually be sleeping in something other than a crib (then again, maybe he won’t if I wish hard enough…). And his current crib is convertible, so it will eventually convert into a toddler bed, and then into a full size bed (FYI: if you’re doing the same, I’d strongly recommend that you buy the conversion kit when you buy the set…I’m so glad we did, because now we can’t find them to purchase anymore!). And down the road, I can only hope that we’ll have another child who will be in the same situation, so an extra mattress was definitely in the cards.
So we decided that, for now, we’ll use our spare bedroom as just that – a bedroom. And we’ve got the most amazing new mattress in there that I’ve got to tell you all about.
Have you guys heard of those mattresses that come shipped to you all vacuum sealed shut then roll out into an actual mattress? When Jay and I were researching mattresses for ourselves last year, we looked into them briefly, but Jay had a hard time getting past the fact that you couldn’t really test them out (I was all about it…I hate dealing with the sales guys and laying on all sorts of mattresses that who knows how many people have touched…eww).
Well Leesa is one of those companies, and I cannot even begin to tell you just how impressed I am with them. Right off the bat, I loved hearing what they do, because for every 10 mattresses they sell, they will donate one to a shelter. They’re basically like the TOMS Shoes or Warby Parker for mattresses.
So our mattress came delivered and, sure enough, it came in a box that you’d never imagine a mattress would be packed into…it was more like a mini fridge.
The directions were super easy to follow, and it was actually no problem for me to do everything by myself. You basically just unpack, unwrap, let it roll out, and it’ll do it’s thing!
It was so cool, because as soon as I cut open the plastic wrap around the mattress, the thing started to expand immediately! And within probably 1-2 minutes, it was fully expanded.
Crazy!
But as cool as Leesa is as a company, the true test is always to see just how good of a mattress they sell. The 10” mattress comes in all sizes, and is crafted w/ 3 unique foam layers, including 2” of memory foam and 2” of a really cool latex-like foam called Avena™ that’s perforated to keep you cool as the other side of the pillow.
It’s ridiculously comfortable, and Jay and I have actually both determined that it’s more comfortable than our current mattress…go figure?! I guess you win on this one, Lucas.
And best of all (which I think is SUPER important if you’re shopping for a mattress online), Leesa gives you 100 nights to try your mattress, risk-free.
Interested in trying Leesa out for yourself? The first 20 readers to redeem promo code SWEETTOOTHSWEETLIFE at checkout will get $75 off your order! Check ‘em out HERE!
If you have any other questions about the mattress, let me know! But I’ll tell you that we’re all thoroughly impressed with Leesa, and would have NO qualms about ordering another mattress from them in the future.

my third bedroom has a bed in it but there’s so much other junk in there that for someone to sleep in there i’d have to do a lot of work lol i should get on that because it doesn’t look very nice! i do use it to put my makeup on in the morning so there’s tons of william’s toys too (every room, really, but i guess that’d toddler life right?!)
Brynn says
ok, that is possibly the coolest thing I’ve ever seen shipped. And you’ve got to love a company that gives back!
Courtney says
I totally agree!

I have honestly never heard of a rolled up mattress before but it is a cool concept! I’ll check it out next time I’m in the market. Good tip on the conversion kit.

Not sure how big your bedrooms are, but if you have another boy, the kids could always share a room, if you find you need a guest room or real office one day. But putting one in the basement later is always a great idea. It’s what my parents did at our old house. :-)

Lets try this again………….haha My question is about the mattress, my husband tosses & turns ALOT all night, I actually get “sea sick ” from all the moving……….I know there are mattress’s you can buy that you can’t feel when your partner toss’s & turns………..how do you rate this mattress for movement ? Thanks !!!
Courtney says
Hmmm, good question! We haven’t slept on it together for a full night (just laid on it to test it out here and there). It’s definitely got some lesser movement, but I don’t think it would be like the ones on the commercials where they put the glass of wine and it doesn’t move while someone is jumping on the bed. :) Hope that helps!
nadine says
Thanks Courtney, it helped !!!

I love seeing Cody randomly in your pictures, Ha! It’s like Where’s Waldo! Lol!
Courtney says
Hahaha, he did not want to leave the room when I was taking the pics so I said, ahh well, photobomb away, Codeman ;)

We have four bedrooms, but one has turned into an office/playroom since I work from home. I hate that baby #2 is taking the place of the guest room, but maybe it will be kind of refreshing to have certain guests “have” to stay at a hotel. haha
Courtney says
LOL!!! :)
Grace @ Diary of a Running Snail says
What a genius idea! Not to mention the hassle of actually getting a reggae mattress home from the store, inside the house and inside the room!
Courtney says
I know, right?! I am so impressed by them!!
tianna says
I’m surprised the Builder who did the house wouldn’t “sponsor” the fourth bedroom for a shout out on the blog…?
Courtney says
Hahaha, well THAT certainly would have been awesome! I doubt they’d have been even the slightest bit interested though, lol ;)

That bed looks SOOO comfy! I wanna take a nap on it right now.

would you say that the mattress takes awhilE to air out afteR unwrapping? I ask because my sister got one, another brand and it took awhile.
Enjoy the crib while you can!! My 25 mo started diving out of his at 16 months so we had to deal with transitioning him to a bed before Christmas. I’m hoping to use the headboard, but he did a number chewing on the rails around 6 mos – one day was all it took. I covered them after but the damage was done. We might just save it for a possible #2 in the future, but I can’t believe the damage he did!
Courtney says
Hey Lauren! I’m assuming you’re talking about odor, and to be totally honest, I have not noticed any sort of odor coming from the room (or it) at all. I was pleasantly surprised!
And ohhh man…right before Christmas?! How did the transition go? I feel like it will just be a nightmare whenever we have to because the boy does not. sit. still. ;)
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
It sounds like it would be a lot easier to move a mattress that’s rolled up and compressed rather than a regular one. I find that’s the thing that’s always the most awkward when moving.

I am so happy you did a post on this! I have been going back and forth between Leesa and Casper – after a bunch of research I was pretty sure I wanted to go with Leesa and now I definitely will! Ordering this weekend :)

Aww YAY!! I’m so glad – enjoy!

Wow, what an awesome mattress! I’ve never heard of that before, but it looks really neat and definitely convenient!

My husband did a ton of research on these online mattress companies. We were so close to buying a Leesa but decided on the Yogabed. They are amazingly comfortable. Truthfully, how could you really “mattress shop” without sleeping? Good luck with yours.
Joe says
Nice review and overview of the mattress! Have you slept on it more now? Do you still have the same feelings about it?
Jenna Jamieson says
Your suggestions about the mattresses make a lot of sense to me and they are good as well as logical. It is great that your are sharing such great piece of information with us to make us familiar with our mattresses.

Nice article. It seems that Lucas love the leesa matress. Would you still recommend it to other users after your experince with it?
Diane J. Michael says
Awesome article, what about the current situation are you feeling kind of same now as the day first you got the mattress or there are some problems with it?
Sarthak Sharma says
Awesome article, I want to ask that do sleeping positions matter in selecting a mattress for example I am a back sleeper so will this mattress be good for me or not or shall I buy different mattress according to my needs?
Sarthak Sharma says
Awesome article, keep up the good work.
