As you know, Date Nights are one of my favorite things in the whole entire world. But impromptu Date Nights – well I think they just may be 1000 times better! :-D
As I mentioned earlier today, I was having high hopes for a potential fro-yo outing at a new place in Saratoga that I’ve been dying to try. After I held up my end of the bargain with some work around the house, there was no way the hubby could say no. ;)
Our original plan was just to head up to Saratoga and go all out with some fro yo for dinner. Yes, not the healthiest choice, but we were gonna do it anyways. Well, by the time we were in Saratoga, we realized we were actually in the mood for a little “real food” first, so we made a stop at one of our faves, The Olde Bryan Inn.
One of the reasons that Jay and I love The Olde Bryan Inn is for its rustic, old-school atmosphere. The building has been around since 1773, and was actually operated as a successful inn throughout the Revolutionary War. There’s something about its history that just makes it so interesting!
Jay and I were lucky enough to snag a table in the bar area, which I find to be one of the neatest rooms in the building. :) We started our “impromptu” Date Night with a round of drinks: a draft beer for the boy, and a nice crisp glass of white wine for this gal.
Along with our drinks, we had a small plate of some Saratoga Chips that were being served in the bar area. Did you guys know that chips originated in Saratoga, NY??? I’m not going to lie – these chips are probably the best potato chips you will ever find.
So originally, we planned on just doing a drink and an appetizer; that is, until we started browsing the menu and began salivating at pretty much everything we saw. It’s cool, we go with the flow. ;)
I still wanted to make sure I had room for my fro yo, so I kept things light with a nice, refreshing meal of soup + salad.
One of their “Soup of the Day” choices was a Tomato Gazpacho, so I jumped on that offering. Unfortunately, even though the flavor was outstanding, it was actually a little too spicy for me. My mouth and lips were literally burning after eating a few bites at a time of this, so I only made it through about half. Jay said I was nuts. I say, hey, don’t judge me.
The salad was a simple mixed greens, along with balsamic dressing I got on the side. It was perfectly lovely; light and refreshing.
The dinner also came with a nut muffin, which Jay and I both decided tasted almost like a pumpkin/spice muffin. I ate about 1/3 of it, but it was totally scrumptious!
After dinner, we got in a little extra exercise (as if my 45 minute treadmill workout earlier today wasn’t enough!) by walking to our final destination: Plum Dandy!!
Plum Dandy recently opened at some point within the last few months, and I think I may have had mini heart palpitations when I found out about it. Every time I read about Julie’s trips to Mochi, I would sit and pout in self-pity at the fact that I was not lucky enough to have self-serve fro yo at my immediate disposal. Really, where was the justice?!? Well, luckily, its HERE!
Today’s flavors:
The inside of this place immediately caught my attention, with the bright lights and huge toppings displays. Jay may have had to snap me out of my “Am I dreaming?” moments a few times. ;)
Being my first trip to a self serve fro yo, I think it’s be safe to say that I may have gone a little overboard. I mean, c’mon, the cup they give you is about the size of my head…do they really expect me not to want to fill the whole thing up?
Oh yes my friends, go big or go home! That right there is some cookies & cream (and a tiny dollop of Red Velvet) fro yo, topped with cookie dough, heath bar bits, caramel, and of course, rainbow sprinkles.
I’ll tell ya, it’s a good thing that this place is a good 25 minute drive from our house – otherwise, my wallet (and waistline) would be in some serious trouble. I think I’m in love…
Can you tell I was loving life at this moment?
After enjoying our delicious treats, we walked around downtown Saratoga a little more, listening to some live bands play on the street and definitely partaking in some people watching. Yesterday was the Opening Day of Saratoga Race Track, so downtown will pretty much be packed from now until the beginning of September. It’s quite the place to be in the summer time!
‘Twas another lovely Date Night indeed!
Hope you all had a fantastic Saturday! :)
I love the Olde Bryan Inn…Joe and I went there on our first date and our first Valentine’s day :o)
Awww, how fun!
Aww this looks like such a great date night! I’m not a big potato chip fan but I know I would have devoured those! And any date that ends with fro yo is perfect in my opinion :)
1) You are SO PRETTY. I can barely stand it!!
2) This is why we are friends – cookie dough, sprinkles and heath bars. None of that fruit crap on the froyo. Fruit is delish, but it’s not dessert!! Haha.
Hahaha!
1) Thank You!!
2) That’s what I’m sayin’! Gimme cookie dough ANY day ;)
How fun. Sounds like a great evening!
I think I’m still stuck on the pumpkin spice muffin from your dinner!
Now I need to investigate if we have a fro-yo place like that nearby … Muy delicioso!
Yay!! You finally made it to Plum Dandy! Looks like you had a delicious visit :) Troy and I were thinking of going over there this weekend but town was crazy!
I love Saratoga – jealous! Those fro-yo places are dangerous – I have to keep myself from putting like 5 different flavors in a cup :)
That restaurant is SO cute- looks so quaint! (did I spell that right?!)
Those chips look a-mazing!
YAY for froyo- too freakin’ delicious- haha!
YOU and your boy are so adorable!! I LOVE SELF SERVE FROYO!!! its so good! I go crazy too, no shame :)
Thank You!
LOL, no shame at all! ;)
What a great night! I’ve never been to the Olde Bryan, but I love Saratoga (I’m from Albany).
We’ve got a bunch of frozen yogurt places in Boston- my fave is BerryLine http://www.berryline.com/
There’s also a self serve place I’ve never been to. I’ll have to suggest Plum Dandy to my friends in the area!
I’m new to your blog, and I think it’s great!!
Thanks, Amanda! Do you ever come back to the Albany area??
Date nights are great!
And I love the little review of Saratoga. I took Hunni there when I was interning in Schenectady and we want to make that one of our Friday date trips. I’m sure it will be better for the crowds since most people will be working.
Love your blog by the way :-)
