This weekend had some positive points for sure, but it also had some tough ones, too. Saturday was a good day though, from beginning to end. It started out with a delicious breakfast of eggs, bacon, and biscuits with jam, and even though we never made it out to breakfast, this was a fantastic substitute.
I took care of the weekly grocery shopping and some other errands, and then after chatting a bit with my friend Kanika, we ended up making some last minute plans and her and Kaura came over in the early evening. It’s so funny because Lucas really doesn’t warm up too quickly to many people, but he just loves him some Kanika. Not that I can blame him.
And these two together? Oh forget it…they’re just so stinkin’ adorable.
If they’re anything like their parents, they’re going to grow up being best buddies.
I’d say they’re well on their way.
We were so excited that Shaheen was able to get off work in time to join us for a little takeout dinner that we ordered from The Flying Chicken.
And that dinner was legit. I know some people get nutzo over fried chicken, and I’m typically “meh” about it, but it was delicious. So was the dessert that Kanika brought over for us to share…
It was definitely an awesome, impromptu Saturday spent with some great friends. And it was the perfect way to lighten up the rest of what was a rather somber weekend.
Sadly, last week, my grandma (my 2 Nana’s) passed away and her wake was on Sunday. My 2 Nana’s (who received her name when I was quite little, after my other grandma told me how lucky I was to have “2 nanas who love you so much”) was my last living grandparent and was the only great-grandparent that Lucas was lucky enough to meet.
I feel very fortunate that I was able to visit her last Tuesday, as she ended up passing late Tuesday night. Me, my dad, and my brother went and spent some time with her and even though she didn’t really talk with us, I know she knew we were there.
She would have turned 91 in a few weeks and man, was she a spitfire. She absolutely adored baseball and the Mets, probably more than any other grandma out there, and she truly loved the family she had here with her. She didn’t always have an easy life, and given the many losses she had to endure, she is probably one of the strongest people I’ve ever known. She was lucky to have my dad, just as much as we were lucky to have her.
She also really did not like having her picture taken.
My 2 Nana’s was a wonderful, loving grandma, and she is one who will be sorely missed.

I’m not really sure to take a post from here, so I’m just going to leave it at that. I’ll try to be back tomorrow if I get the time after today, but I wish you all a wonderful week ahead. Be sure to hug your loved ones extra tight today, or call them up to let them know how much they’re loved. xoxo
