Lots of Good Food, Day Date, and Ditching the Bottle

By Courtney 39 Comments

Ohhhh, Monday. Why do you creep up on us so soon??

We had such a nice weekend over here, I hope all of you had the same! I don’t have a ton to share, now that I look back on whatever pictures I took, but overall, it was just a really nice couple of days.

Our Saturday started out with soccer for Lucas, and the rest of the day (minus a quick trip to the grocery store for me and the little man) was spent at home. I got in a great workout, did a little cleaning, took care of some food prep, and spent the rest of my time playing with the boys.

bubbles

We were having a little fun at dinner time with bubbles, in case you couldn’t tell. Winking smile

We got lazy when it came time to decide on dinner and we treated ourselves to some Chipotle takeout. Chicken burrito bowl with some chips and all. the guac. for me.

chipotle burrito bowl

It had been a while…almost forgot how much I loved those things!

And for dessert, Jay and I split a jumbo red velvet cupcake that I picked up off the “oops we made too much” cart at the grocery store.

red velvet cupcake

I will gladly take advantage of that cart anytime I see something good on there.

On Sunday, we all enjoyed sleeping in until almost 8am, fed Lucas some breakfast, and then headed out to drop him off at my parents’ house for a few hours so Jay and I could enjoy a mini “day date.” We started things off by going out for breakfast which is, honestly, one of my all-time favorite things to do. I wish we could do it more often!

omelet toast and home fries

We went to The Eatery at Carol’s Place which, as you’ve seen here before, is absolutely a favorite of ours. I ordered an (enormous) omelet with broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, onions, and provolone cheese with toast and home fries. Ohhhhh, was it good…definitely a good way to start the day, if you ask me.

After breakfast, we went to the movies (first time since June!) to see a matinee showing of American Sniper.

movie ticket

Whew…what a movie. I told Jay once it was over that I don’t think I’ve felt that sort of gut-wrenching suspense from a movie in a long, long time. I can definitely see why it’s performing so well…Bradley Cooper was fantastic.

movies

Never too old for a little movie theater selfie. Winking smile

After the movie, we picked up Lucas and headed back home, and I did a little more prepping of food and salads for during the week

salad food prep

I also baked some oatmeal chocolate chip Heath bar cookies; they were from a bag and I just added the Heath bits so I can’t take credit. BUT, they were pretty delicious.

cookies

And then, the final highlight of our weekend is that, somehow, we managed to ditch the bedtime bottle(!!!!!).

bedtime

Lucas just showed no interest on Saturday, so we decided to just go without it on Sunday and see how it went. Thankfully, he didn’t even miss it! Apparently, he was just ready to wean himself of it 18 months, who knew? Jay and I joke about that stinkin’ paci he still takes at bedtime but, honestly, I don’t think any of us are ready to give that up just yet.

So there are some highlights from our weekend! How about all of you guys? Did you have anything fun happening??

All your food from the weekend looks excellent!! I really want to see American Sniper. It isn't the type of movie I would normally go see (I am more into comedies and chick flicks) but I have heard such good things about it I feel like I need to see it. Happy Monday!

Have you tried the mason jar salads for your lunches? They work great and veggies are still nice and crisp after 5-7 days! A lot of people put their dressing on the bottom, but I prefer to take mine separately. Love them!

Oh my goodness, I forgot Lucas still took a nighttime bottle - woohooo for getting rid of it! We're on the same page as far as the pacifier goes. Emerson can't even go to sleep without BOTH of her monkeys. Gaah. We created a monster.

Bye bye bottles!! I remember what a relief that was for us. And it was surprisingly easier than I thought. Now the paci is a whoooole different story. I swear E is more attached to it now than he ever was before. I blame the teething and lingering cold. Keep us updated on how Lucas is doing. I love the idea of "sending" them away and getting something cool in return. We will see! I feel like 2 is the cutoff ;)

I love day dates with my hubby. We will definitely have to see that movie, but probably not until it's at Redbox. :) Breakfast is our favorite meal too. Sometimes we eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I really have to get better at food prepping. I just have absolutely no time to even do that. Haha!!

Go Lucas! It's funny how we (or maybe it's just me) get stressed about certain transitions, and then it's surprisingly easy when it's done on our kid's own timing. Ahhh I want to see American Sniper so bad! I've had lots of great things about it. Glad you guys got a date together!

Hubby and I are looonngggg overdue for one, but to be fair, we did get to go out to a charity dinner with friends on Sat. night while my sis babysat, so that was fun! So nice to get all dolled up and put heels on for a change! :-) Love your meal prep by the way, especially the yummy salads! I so have to get better with prepping meals for the week - new year goals! YAY Lucas! You are growing up to be a big boy! Isn't is funny how at this age, they are becoming more independent and will do things themselves? Our little man out of nowhere began using utensils like a pro and even wipes his mouth with a napkin? Who is this kid?!

Love all your posts Courtney! Your energy, organization and enthusiasm are always an inspiration. Love that you share your little man with us! Can't believe he's 18 months already. Seems like yesterday you were announcing your pregnancy. I remember the paci issue. Back when my oldest was about that age we were big Sesame Street fans so we said Oscar the Grouch took the paci. Luckily it worked. My 4 yr old granddaughter has managed to keep hers for bedtime. Much harder struggle now, but in the end every kid manages to grow and thrive no matter! You're awesome!

We didn't stop the bedtime bottle til he was nearly 3 !!! he loved it as always been a sookie baby - was breastfed til 22 months. His teeth are beautiful and have had no problems, he never went to bed with his bottle and drank it so fast that I dont think anything had time to stick to his teeth !!!! LOL Wouldn't worry about it - do what feels right. Its far worse if you are giving juice in a bottle, milk is fine. all juice etc should be in cup.
