Three cheers for weekday, day dates!!
Jay and I both had/have a few vacation days left with work that we needed to use up before the end of the year, so we both decided to take a random Tuesday (when Lucas is in preschool/with my MIL and Alex is at daycare) and enjoy a little day date, just the two of us. We’ve only had two opportunities to get out just the two of us since Alex was born (Jay’s birthday and a wedding) which we’re very grateful for(!) but we miss being able to get out more often. It’s important to date your spouse!
So once we dropped Lucas off at preschool, we stopped quick to grab some breakfast. This wasn’t originally our plan but we were running late and needed something to eat, so we picked up a couple of bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches on our way over to the mall.
We browsed a few shops in the mall, hoping to pick up a few more Christmas presents, but we were unsuccessful in finding what we were looking for. Ahh well, ya win some, ya lose some, right?
At 11:30, we caught a matinee showing of Office Christmas Party which also happened to be in the theater’s RPX room (err, theater?) so it cost up a whopping $30 for two matinee tickets. I honestly thought the guy charged us for extra tickets at first…apparently we haven’t been to a movie in quite a while?! Thank goodness for gift cards that don’t expire.
I had no idea what was different about the RPX theater, but apparently it meant better sound, a bigger screen, and rocking leather chairs.
I was in need of my second coffee for the day (#newbadhabit) so I grabbed a small iced coffee from the DD in the food court of the mall before heading into the movie.
The movie itself was…alright. I guess I had only been paying half attention to the previews because I thought it looked hilarious from those. But it was just okay. Definitely a stupid-funny and predictable one.
By the time the movie was over it was heading for close to 2pm so we headed out for a late lunch at Jimmy Casey’s (one of our favorites!).
I ordered a grilled chicken wrap, which was loaded with provolone, lettuce, tomato, onion, roasted red peppers, and mayo (<—not complaining at all about that!). It was huge so I wound up eating half of it, along with all the fries, and saved the other half for lunch yesterday.
After our lunch date, we made a quick pit stop at Target for a few necessary items before going to pick up Alex from daycare and heading back home to meet up with Lucas and my MIL.
I joked with Jay in the car on the way to go get Alex, telling him that I missed the boys a lot that day so that probably meant they’d both wind up being a handful that evening. And we were right.
Tuesday is Jay’s bowling night so he headed out later in the evening, but a certain someone decided he just didn’t feel like going to bed. So I wound up eating this Brittle Nut Medley as my dinner while sitting with said bedtime boycotter while stuffing our Christmas card envelopes to send out.
Side note…as delicious as that nut mix is, I CANNOT find my beloved Rudolph’s Mix from Target anymore?!?! I’ve looked in two stores and both seemed to be sold out…GAH! If anyone near me finds it, PLEASE, tell me!!
Finally, around 9:30pm Alex decided he was cool with going to bed and Jay got home from bowling so we both wound up eating a bowl of ice cream and went to bed shortly after that. AKA, my favorite way to end an evening.
As for today, I have the day off again…and TODAY is a Christmas cookie baking day with my mom!! <3
Hope you’re all having a great week!

How fun that you are able to use vacation days for fun days with your family :) I agree with you…movies are so expensive!! Brian and I went to one over the summer and his grandma had given us $50 for a fun night out. We spent it ALL at the movies! We got a medium popcorn and a small drink in addition to our tickets…pricey!! Definitely a treat when we go to a movie at the theater ;)
Courtney says
YES, crazy right?!? But darn that movie theater popcorn…SO good ;)

So fun!! I’ve been wanting a day date with my hubby but can’t seem to figure it out with breastfeeding! My daughter is a month older than Alex and still nurses every 2-3 hrs so I’m assuming I’d have to pump that often. How do you manage it?
Courtney says
Ohhh, I brought the ol’ pump with me ;) I have an adapter for the car, so I pumped before and after the movie!

Gotta love random day dates with just the two of you! You are not the only one who could not find the Rudolph Mix at target :( Finally after never seeing it in the stores, I just ordered it online and it came like 3 days later! You might want to just do that
Courtney says
I’m feeling like that may have to happen…hearing you say you ordered it made me feel a little less crazy about my obsession, haha! So glad to hear I’m not the only one ;)

You guys are just so darn cute!!!!! I wanted to reach thru the screen for your sandwich-looks sooo good!!!! Have a wonderful time making cookies with your mom. Will you be sharing recipes of what you made? Btw no Rudolph mix by me….if I do see it I will gladly mail it to ya.
Courtney says
Thank youuuuuu!!! And YES I’ll share my list once we decide what to make today, haha!

I bought Rudolph mix at the Latham Target last weekend. They had a huge endcap full of them, I hope you find some! Love your blog, never commented before but this seemed like a good time :)

Hi!
One way to see if an item is in-stock at your local Target store is leveraging the website!
http://www.target.com/p/rudolph-s-mix-indulgent-snack-22oz-archer-farms/-/A-14771645
If you look where you would add the item to cart, you can click find it in a store, and enter in your zip code. Of course if the item is stocked and flies off the shelves this could be inaccurate… but hopefully there is plenty in stock for you :).
Also, you may see certain stores have the blurb listed “get it today with free order pickup”- you can order online and pickup at the store’s Guest Services counter. These orders are ‘worked’ within a few hours so it can be a great option to ensure the item is held for you.
I know how frustrating it can be when an item is out-of-stock. Hope this helps! And THUMBS UP on a day date with your husband! Woo!

Oh my gosh, you aren’t lying. Movies ARE expensive. I think I paid almost $20 for a ticket to IMAX recently. Like, does this come with a free glass of wine or…? Also, I have got to get my hands on that Rudolph’s Mix, but I couldn’t find it in my Target either. And yay, Christmas cookie baking! I just saved like, twelve recipes. Hoping to tackle at least a few soon!

Hi Courtney! It looks like you can buy Rudolph’s Mix online and there is free shipping on all orders??
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
Yep, movies are definitely getting more expensive here in Canada too. Yay for having a day date though, as much as you guys love the kids I’m sure it was great to be able to spend some time together alone.
I’m looking forward to hearing what you and your mom are baking for Christmas. So far I’ve made chex mix, shirtbread cookies, and sugar cookies. Today I’m planning on making gingerbread cookies.

We recently got an RPX theater where we live, and I am in LOVE with the seats! I do not like the fact that you have to pick your seats ahead of time though… I have shown up too late and was stuck sitting all the way in the front. Can’t wait to see what you bake for Christmas!

You got off good with the movie ticket. I just paid almost $50 to see the new Star Wars in IMAX 3D. It’s my hubby’s birthday, so it was worth it. But $50 for a movie!? And that’s before popcorn and giant drinks! Ah well…you only live once!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
$30 for matinee tickets?! That is nuts! BUT, hooray for dates together, that quality time is totally worth it ;)
Kristin says
First of all, YOU got me hooked on the Rudolph Mix after reading your blog! Secondly, I bought 11 of those containers to accompany gift cards I’m giving people. Third, I’m pretty sure at least one person isn’t getting a container because I ate it! Fourth, You can order it online from Target! Hope you guys havea great weekend!
Melissa says
What in the world! That is really expensive for tickets. I think I paid maybe $12 or $15 a piece for tickets to one of those theaters with big reclining leather chairs that are spaced out, and they bring you food or drinks if you want to order it. But a normal theater, that’s kinda crazy. How nice that you got a date day though!
Also SO stinking jealous of your Dunks! I think Oahu is getting one next spring but it’s in a gas station by the airport… Not ideal!

Hey Courtney! I’m so glad to see someone else has developed an increased coffee routine. I’ve fallen into the habit of making myself an iced coffee everyday now after my morning hot cup. Unfortunately, we can do iced coffee here in Florida since we are still in the 80’s!!! But I make the coffee, let it cool, then sweeten it with stevia, coconut milk and a pump of that Torani Sugar Free Flavored syrup (in Choc Chip ) – and its delicious!!! I add iced and it makes a big, tall cup which I sip on throughout the middle of the day. It’s so good – I love it! Do you use any of those Torani Syrups? They are delicious – I put them in tea as well.
Anyhoo… hope you guys have a great weekend! I’m sure you have some baking on your agenda… I’m headed to my moms on Monday to do the same. xox – Jessica

Love day dates! My husband is off work until January, but our kids are in school for another week…so excited! I mean, we will still have the 2 year old at home, but 1 out of 4 is still like a vacation ;)
