As I mentioned yesterday, this past weekend was absolutely beautiful. We all had so much fun hanging out outside, soaking up as much warmth and sunshine as humanly possible. This. is. the. life.
Spring (okay, almost summer) is like a new beginning for me, not only because we finally get to come out of hibernation from the downright frigid winter months, but also because it’s the start of all sorts of fun stuff. While I’ve never been too much of an “I’m one with nature” sort of person (if that even makes sense?), I do love me some fun outdoor activities. Sure, my allergies can be a pain in the rear sometimes, but you guys know I’ve got my allergies under control.
Here are some of my favorites I’m looking forward to this season…
Softball! I already told you guys about how we’re switching things up a bit this year with our team, but I’m still really enjoying being out on the field again.
I have so many great memories of playing softball on these fields, and even just visiting them. Heck, I’m pretty sure I’ve been going there since birth. It’s just something that’s always been a part of our family and it’s something I really don’t want to give up.
As much as games can make for hectic evenings during the week, it’s worth the extra planning to make it all work out. Softball + family = my happy place.
Lunchtime walks and alfresco lunches at work! Ohhh, how I have missed my lunchtime walks and lunches at work!
Being cooped up at a desk, in a cubicle with no windows in sight can be…let’s call it, dull. Now that the weather is nice, I’m taking every chance I can get to spend some extra time outside to soak up the Vitamin D. Eating outdoors is one of my favorite things!
Plus, the walks are a great way to keep active when the rest of my day is basically spent sitting at a computer. It’s a win-win!
Watching Lucas “explore” the outdoors. Last spring/summer, Lucas wasn’t nearly as mobile as he is now.
Oh my god, he’s so littllllleeee…
He’s always been incredibly curious and interested in his surroundings, and I’ve already begun to see how excited he gets to be outside. He loves pointing out the birdies (“tweet tweet”), the sky that’s “boo,” or the “geen” grass. And I have no doubt that, as the spring continues on into summer, he’ll continue to explore his surroundings even more.
He’s already proven that he has no fear in small insects, and tries his hardest to pick them up as the crawl along. And dirt? It’s like, a serious thing. Oh dear, so this is what being a boy mom is all about??
Heading to the park. This is when my allergies kick in. Since we’ve moved, we really don’t have access to a nearby park for a while which makes me sad. So we made sure to take full advantage while we could with the little park that used to be right down the road from our old house.
It’s really nothing crazy at all – there’s really only a swing and a slide that Lucas could use – but it’s just so nice to switch things up from playing in the backyard. Plus, watching Lucas’s face beam as he slides down the slide or swings high on the swings? Just priceless.
So how about you guys? What are you looking forward to this (late) spring and summer??
