These days, I’m alllll about my casual wardrobe staples.
There was once a time where I spent a lot more effort (and money) on fashion. Not to say that I considered myself super-fashionable, but I would feel comfortable saying that I’ve typically been pretty good about at least looking somewhat put together, 95% of the time.
My wardrobe is pretty simple now. My day job is pretty casual in terms of attire, and weekends are also often pretty casual since I’m most likely on the floor playing trucks or doing something else that requires little effort on the wardrobe front.
Then again, let me rephrase…I *could* be spending more time on looking fashionable, but I just don’t have the time or desire right now. ; )
If I had to label my “style” I’d probably sum it up in three words: casual, comfortable, and put-together. Is that four words? Ah well. You get the point.
I’d say I’m most comfortable in a good pair of jeans/jeggings and a flowy top. If there’s any sort of layering, even better. It’s just what I feel most confident in, and comfortable – both physically and mentally.
So while these aren’t anything “mind-blowing,” I thought I’d share three of my favorite casual wardrobe staples. And by staples, I mean that I own anywhere between 3-6 of each of them. I mean, when you find something you love…right?
Short Sleeve Vintage V-Neck T-Shirts from Target
These are my go-to t-shirts for weekends, lounging, and even layering. Whenever the warmer weather decides to arrive (c’mon, spring!) I’m sure I’ll be breaking them out a bit more often.
While most of the ones I have are from the Mossimo line, Target has recently introduced two newer lines (A New Day and Universal Thread) and I like them just as much.
I’m actually shocked I couldn’t find a photo of me wearing one of these (and ironically enough, I’m actually wearing one right now as I type this, but I just finished an impromptu workout, and ain’t nobody got time to snap a photo, edit, upload, and all that jazz at 9pm!) so a stock photo will just have to do. But, trust me…they’re worn all. the. time. I think at one point when I was working from home more frequently, Jay actually referred to them as my “uniform.”
BONUS: All Tees and Tanks are currently on sale, 3 for $20, so stock up!
Luxe High-Neck Swing Tank from Old Navy
I currently own this top in six different colors. All of you Emily Ley/A Simplified Life followers are probably gasping at me right now, but I just LOVE this shirt because it’s truly just so versatile. Not only that, but the higher neck makes it great for when you’ve constantly got kiddos climbing on you and all that jazz.
In the colder months, it’s my favorite layering tank and winds up going underneath pretty much all of my cardigans. I also love pairing them with a nice, simple necklace, too!
Ignore my snazzy socks + rolled jeans – they were hidden underneath boots during the day!
In the warmer months I wear it solo, and it can easily be dressed up or down. Give it a half tuck, tie a knot in the front, or just let it flow.
Super Soft Low Rise Jeggings from American Eagle
These jeggings. Ohhh, how I love them. And, surprisingly enough, I wouldn’t have expected that something labeled “super low rise” would be in my wardrobe at this stage of life. But I really don’t feel like they’re *that* low, and I also like how they don’t give all that added “bulk” from a high-waisted pant.
Does that even make sense? Hopefully it does…
I also have and love these AE Ne(X)t Level Denim X Jeggings in black and also strongly recommend those, too.
BONUS: All jeans and shorts are BOGO 50% off right now at AE!
How about you guys? What are some of your favorite, casual wardrobe staples these days?

I have both tanks you mentioned and love them! I’m all about loose tanks after having two kids. Probably because kids are always clinging to me, I don’t want my shirts super tight, ha. But thanks for sharing! Love affordable fashion

Love this post! I work from home and I’m always looking for good casual staples that look a little better than jeans and a hoodie. :-)

Great options and I’m also a big fan of t-shirts from Target; they’re super comfortable!

Can i ask about the sizing of these jeans? Do they run true to size? Thanks!

Girl, i am with you on the low rise AE jeggings. I am obsessed! I just CANNOT do the high waisted jeans trend (probably because I have no booty), and these jeans just fit so much better. I do have some of those old navy tops but the one thing I hate is how wrinkly they get! I wish they made them in a material that was more wrinkle-proof.

Do you find that you are always flashing your underwear in the low rise jeans? I spend a lot of time on the floor with my two kids and hate feeling like everyone sees my underwear in low rise styles! I feel like I’m on a never ending search for jeans that fit my post-baby body!!

No, not at all! Plus, I’m pretty much always wearing longer tops, too, haha. But no, I love these!

Did you order the tanks in regular or tall? In the picture your tank looks a lot longer than the models.
Courtney says
I got the regular!
