Well, it took us a LOT longer than we expected but it’s official…we are finally, completely moved out of our old house.
We planned on being completely moved out by Thursday, but it turns out we have more crap than anyone on the planet we anticipated, so although Wednesday night was our last night to sleep at the house, we still had to go back Friday afternoon to grab the rest and tidy up a bit.
Honestly, all of it still feels so surreal. It’s almost like we’re just here “vacationing,” while staying with friends. But the emotions definitely hit hard for me on Friday when we had to say our final goodbyes. Like, the waterworks were non.stop.
And while I’m still sad, I know it won’t be long until we’re officially “re-settled” once again. Not to mention, I’ve got plenty to keep me occupied and busy, like this little character.
He has adjusted SO well to being here at our friends’ house, I couldn’t have asked for anything better. He’s been sleeping great, and although it took a little to warm up, he and Kaura have been having lots of fun. I can’t wait to see how they continue to learn how to play with each other over the next few weeks.
On Saturday, I tried to work on getting back to somewhat of a “normal” routine, since everything has been so up in the air lately. I did a little bit of blog work while snacking on some food that didn’t come from a drive-thru…
Yogurt + berries + granola = my happy place.
I also got in a fun workout with Jay while Lucas napped. Our friends have a nice little gym set up in their basement, so I’m really looking forward to having some new equipment to be able to switch things up a bit! I did 20 minutes on the elliptical (can’t even tell you when the last time was I used an elliptical??)…
Followed up with a superset weights circuit I made up on the fly. It was great!
On Saturday afternoon, we had a birthday party to attend, so we headed over to that for a little bit (it was superhero themed, so cute!).
And on Saturday evening, Kanika and Shaheen had some company over so Jay and I (aka, really just Jay) helped man the grill a bit.
It was a fun day, indeed!
And to fill you in a little bit on some house updates…things are moving right along!
We had our electrical/mechanical walk through on Friday morning (talk about a day FULL of emotions!), so we had to go over things like locations of outlets, cable jacks, lighting, and additional clearing of our land.
It is SO fun to be able to walk through the house and see all of the progress being made…and also trying to envision where everything is going to go.
And what I’m going to need/want to buy too, of course.
So yeah, there’s a little rundown of what’s been happening over here! Now it’s time to get back to a normal work week and try to work on figuring out our new routines. Fingers crossed we can figure everything out pretty quickly!
How was your weekend? Do anything fun or exciting??
katie@LifesNextBigStep says
You’re going to love having a new house so much! Definitely be picky with the PM (if you don’t like the placement of something, like an outlet or light or something…easier to fix when there isn’t drywall up!) Our foundation was just completed last week so walls are going up now…we’re going out tonight to check on it – I’m so ready for a new place, but NOT for moving out of our current house. SO MUCH STUFF. How do we accumulate so much stuff? I will never know.
Linz @ Itz Linz says

Will you have a pool at your new house?
Courtney says
Not right away, but we definitely plan to add one in the next few years! :)

Wow! Your house is really underway! That is so exciting. The best part of my weekend was two nights in a row of dinners out without the baby!

Your new house looks like it’s really progressing! That is so, so exciting! Hopefully, the time will go fast and you’ll be moving in soon. We had an awesome weekend – Saturday we went to a BBQ/one year old birthday party and yesterday, we did nothing – just stayed home and spent time with the babies!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
Ahhh, so bittersweet to say goodbye! I’m so excited for you to move into your new place though. I’m sure it’ll be a good distraction from leaving your old home too. Glad you guys had a nice weekend and are adjusting well being in a new place. That looks like a nice little gym set up! Fun!

We only lived in our first home (bought just before our wedding day) for 2.5 years, and I was still a total ball of emotions when we moved out – I cried so many times, especially that final week and certainly the day we said goodbye to it. It’s bittersweet to move on!

I wanted to comment last week. better late than never. First – you have amazing friends. Second, you are so brave – living with friends while your house is being built. I’m such a ‘routine’ homebody, I’d be scared to step out of my comfort zone. Your post reminds me of when my mom sold our family home a few years after my dad died. I’d been out of the house for over 30 years, and I’d only lived there since I was 13, but I was so sad. I went the night before the closing and took photos of each room, the view out the window overlooking the lake, all the angles that reminded me of memories made there. I didn’t think I’d get past the sadness. Then not long after, I came to realize that it wasn’t those walls that I loved, it was the memories and the people that helped make those memories inside those walls that I loved. Even though the house was no longer ours, the memories that were made in it would always be mine. It’s an emotional experience saying goodbye to a home that has been such a huge part of your life, your experiences, but as you said, you are making new memories now in YOUR very own home. Congratulations on that and good luck in this journey. I know you and Jay will enjoy many happy years and memories to come!
Jenn@Mark My Miles! says
WOW, your new home is coming along fast! How exciting. We are in the process of moving too…to a whole new town. Super nervous but excited as well.
Christen says
Wow, super impressed with the speediness of your house!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Hi Courtney! Your friends must be awesome people to let you stay with them. And how cool that they have a gym too? Wishing you the best of luck during this transition!! :)
Stacie @ SimplySouthernStacie says
I am overly sentimental when it comes to houses and cars, so I completely understand your waterworks. I remember I bawled like a baby when my parents sold our childhood car. Haha!
Julia @ Lord Still Loves Me says
Congratulations on finally being out of the old house! How exciting! Moving in can be an incredibly difficult process, and I am sure you’re just exhausted. Be proud of all you’ve accomplished so far! You are working hard.
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
I’d love to have a home gym like your friends have!
Yeah, I don’t think anyone expects to have as much stuff as they do when they move. It somehow multiplies!
Nikki Rader says
Ahhh!! Brand new houses are the best! And man, I would kill for a dip in that pool.
Tara | Treble in the Kitchen says
AH! Congratulations, Courtney :)
Chelsea @smackerlacquer says
I moved around alot when I was in the military, staying with friends, long term work trips/deployments, hotels, it can be so exhausting moving around and settling in a new place! Glad its working out so far you :)
Nikki says
Congrats on the new house!! So exciting! I was full of waterworks when we moved last summer, it was our daughters first home and so many memories. It’ll get easier, plus shopping for a new home will be so much fun!!
