You want to know what’s really awkward? Walking in to an appliance store, having about 20 people staring at you, and finding out that they’re having some sort of “designers meeting.”
But you want to know what makes it equally as fun? Having one of the reps at the store understand the awkwardness and take you back to where they’re serving food and drinks for the party and offer you each a free beverage.
Shopping for washers and dryers with a free drink in hand? Don’t mind if we doooo!
The two of us went out last night to look at washers and dryers because we may end up getting new ones some time soon. We went more to check out pricing rather than purchase just yet, but it turned out to definitely be worth the trip.
That wasn’t our main reason for getting out last night though…we had some weeknight dinner reservations!
Those of you who have been long time readers may remember that we got married at The Century House and, most years since, we’ve gone back for an anniversary dinner there. Hey, we were only celebrating about two and a half months late…
And about a month ago, there was a Living Social deal for a three course, Pre-Fixe menu, and it was too good of a deal to pass up…except we almost missed out on it and wound up waiting until the day before it expired, hence the random Wednesday date night.
We started out with bread and dipping oil, which we devoured in no time because we were starving.
For our appetizer, we ordered the calamari since we already knew it was delicious.
For me entrée, I ordered the same thing I get every time – the filet mignon – but this time, it was served with a roasted garlic butter that was out of this world.
I loved the fact that our deal also included a dessert, because we quickly remembered their delicious Grande Finale offering. It looked a little different from the last time we ordered it, but it was still just as tasty.
The two of us, undoubtedly, left there stuffed, but we both had such a great night and agreed that it was awesome to have a little time alone. We’ve been so busy with this or that, and just have a lot of things happening, so it was nice to spend some time just the two of us for a few hours.
So hey, I guess for “wingin’ it” this week with meals, this one didn’t turn out half bad?
Do any of you guys have any anniversary “traditions?”
Well I’m sure shopping for a washer and dryer while sipping on wine makes the experience 10x better! Glad you guys had a good night and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! :)
What a fun night out! We also went out for dinner last night and it was perfect to eat out on a Wednesday. We just needed that time out of the house breaking up our routine. So fun that they offered you some drinks while you shopped :) That was a nice perk of Sears ;)
Looks like a fun anniversary!
Happy anniversary! (a bit late). Alex and I don’t have any anniversary traditions as of yet–we’ve only had one, so there you go. We try to schedule one of his vacation weeks around it and so we get a bit bigger celebration out of the whole thing! But obviously, a great dinner is a must :D
Aw better late than never! I dislike groupons because half the time I forget to use it before it expires too.
After my wedding, everyone went to Cracker Barrel. So every year since, we go to CB around our anniversary to celebrate.
I always seem to wait to use Groupons until the last minute! Mmm your filet mignon and ice cream sundae both look incredible.
I love Steak. I rarely get it at restaurants because it’s more than I want to pay (and I’m afraid they’ll mess it up. sorrynotsorry). I found my go-to recipe for making steak, though. Rave reviews every time. Who knew butter on a steak could be so amazing?

We always go back to the spot of our wedding as well. However, it is four hours away from where we live now, so it makes logistics a bit difficult. So even if we miss our actual date, we always make an effort to return and celebrate!
I’m the same way with Groupons/LivingSocial deals! I always wait until the last minute and then swear I won’t do it again. ;) That dessert looks amazing…I’m full on craving a brownie sundae now and it’s not even 9 am yet!
Happy Anniversary! We usually try to go on a weekend trip, but that might be harder for us to do since we have a new baby…..this year will probably be a date night out to dinner :)
That food looks delicious! Happy belated anniversary! What is the sauce on the calamari??
The red was a spicy pomodoro, but I’m not sure what the green one was. It almost tasted like maybe it was mayo based? Whatever it was, it was incredible!
So glad you got to celebrate! And that’s funny about the appliance store. My husband and I were married over Memorial Day, and since then, have been to other people’s weddings on our anniversary once, and will again this year! I guess it’s a popular time to tie the knot! :)
yum! that whole meal looks delicious!
At least you made it out eventually :) Need to get making my own calamari!
I definitely wouldn’t mind shopping for new appliances if I got to drink wine!! Glad you two got out for a date! It’s super important but also hard to do when you’re busy parents! Happy Anniversary!!! :)
So awesome that you have an anniversary tradition like this. We passed through Latham on our way to Saratoga Springs one summer a long time ago (I was in middle school, heading to a summer ballet program) and it was a beautiful area.
We do a mini vacation to a different winery town each year for our anniversary. We stay in a bed and breakfast, do wine tastings and go antique shopping. Its my favorite part of fall!
That sounds like such a great time!
Happy Anniversary
I went to a wedding once at The Century House! It was gorgeous, and the food was really good too!
We love the Century House. Had my daughter’s wedding there, as well as her baby shower. Top Notch operation and their food is always delicious! Problem is the bread and olive spread are so yummy, I never have room for my meal! Your dinner looked amazing. You guys are too cute!
Such a fun date night! I had calamari last night. I haven’t had it in so long and it pretty much made my Friday night.
