Outfits of the Day & A New Stitch Fix

By Courtney 40 Comments

I’ve gotta tell ya…I’m really having some fun with this return of the fashion aspect here on the blog! I’m so glad so many of you made the request for it to come back…partially because it’ll occasionally make me question by outfit decisions in the morning in an effort to not look too frumpy. Not that it always works, but it helps.

So let’s get right to it, starting with some outfits featuring one of my current obsessions: Flannel/Plaid!

Here’s a weekend look…

IMG_8497

  • Top: Plaid Flannel Boyfriend Shirt via Old Navy
  • Leggings: LoveSurf Explore Legging (they are GREAT!)
  • Scarf: American Eagle (super old) but this scarf from Target is similar
  • Boots: Bear Traps via Macy’s (from a few years ago, but the Kyletta is similar)

And this one was both a dress-down Friday and weekend look…

IMG_8580

  • Top: Mossimo Supply Co. Flannel Shirt via Target
  • Jeans: Gap Outlet (clearance rack)
  • Boots: ShoeMint

And here’s a random mix of some recent work week choices (FYI: my job is very casual when it comes to attire)

IMG_8560

  • Top: via Stitch Fix (not sure of brand at the moment, it’s in the wash!)
  • Pants: Kut From The Kloth Danny 5-Pocket Knit Pant via Stitch Fix
  • Pumps: Can’t remember the brand but they came from Bocov’s!

This particular outfit was craaaazy comfy and Lucas seemed to really dig it, too.

IMG_8569IMG_8570

  • Sweater: Women’s Marled Crew-Neck Sweater via Old Navy
  • Leggings: LoveSurf Explore Legging
  • Boots:  Kaylor Slouchy boots via Target
  • Scarf: Jersey Infinity Scarf via Old Navy

Can you tell I like scarves?

IMG_8572

  • Sweater: Textured Sweater via Old Navy
  • Jeans: Just Black via Stitch Fix
  • Boots: Bear Traps via Macy’s (from a few years ago, but the Kyletta is similar)
  • Infinity Scarf: Boscov’s (last year, I believe)

Ahhh…and then I got a haircut! Smile This is another workday outfit, on a day where I felt like looking a little more on the dressy side.

IMG_8647

  • Top: Old Navy (last year)
  • Pants: Sloan Ankle Pant via Banana Republic Outlet (similar and similar via Banana)
  • Pumps: Macy’s (soooo old)

And finally, let’s wrap today’s post up with the latest Stitch Fix delivery I received last week. If you follow me on Instagram, then you’ve already seen this pic below…

IMG_8725

I went seeking some of your thoughts on which of these should be keepers because I was sort of on the fence with just about all of them. Also included in this fix was a black cowl neck dress that was alright but got sent back (too much $$ for the quality). As for the rest:

  1. Grey bomber jacket: Looked cute if I stood the right way, but most of the time it just hung there and looked super boxy. Returned
  2. 3/4 cowl neck top: Fit was okay, but I just couldn’t get on board with the neck. It never seemed to look right and I was constantly picking at it. Returned
  3. Striped sweater: No. Just, no. The material was super thin, the cost was $58, the stripes were just not flattering, and the colors weren’t my favorite. Returned
  4. Infinity scarf: I liked this one. Didn’t love it, but liked it enough to keep it, partially because I didn’t want to lose out on my $20 styling fee. Kept it.

Overall, I was super disappointed with this fix; especially since I had left some specific requests for my stylist before it was delivered (I wanted a chambray shirt and a flannel top). I’ve decided to skip my November fix and will possibly try it back up again in December, so we’ll see what happens with that one!

So what kind of fashion trends have you guys been diggin’ lately??

I scored some plaid shirts for fall as well! Is there anything better than fall clothes?! I think not. I agree with your thoughts on the fix, jacket was cute in theory though.

You look so tiny! I LOVE plaid/flannel but anytime I try to wear one I feel like I look very tomboy-ish.

I got a stitch fix for the first time this past month and was super disappointed too. There was nothing even worth keeping for the $20. The style was far from me and how I answered the questions and I had requested a crossbody bag which was included on the card like it was in my fix but instead there was a random shirt, not the bag! I decided to give it one more try because I like the concept but not at those prices if it doesn't get better!!

I must say you're looking pretty awesome these days Courtney! ;) I too love these fashion posts - I hope you keep them around for a while! I love getting inspiration from others, and I also love that a lot of your stuff comes from Target, Old Navy, Macy's, etc. ... places I actually shop at. I've not gotten into the flannel look myself, as I just don't think it would work for me but I have been loving the leggings and long sweater look. You're right - it's just so freakin' comfortable! I also just ordered a pair of taupe heeled ankle boots from ShoeMint - they were having the most amazing sale where you could score your very first pair of shoes from them for just $30! The boots I got were orignally $140 and I got them for $30!!! They should arrive within the next day or two - so excited to create an outfit with them!

I actually really like that infinity scarf! That's a bummer, though, that they didn't send you either of the items you requested.

I had the same experience with Stitch Fix! I asked for a chambray top and they sent me a super dark dark dark shirt that just hung and didn't flatter. Actually, everything in the fix was super big on me and I only kept a necklace for the same reason you did--didn't want to lose my $20. However, that was my very first Stitch Fix so, despite the raving reviews I see online, I don't think I'll be trying it again. Bummer, because I hate shopping for clothes myself!

I have that same Old Navy Marled crew neck sweater and I love it. I'm also wearing the black one right now lol. It's so comfy and looks great with leggings and boots. As for trends, I'm loving ankle boots and chunky knit sweaters.

I love scarves! So much! I wear them most days lately, since the weather turned cooler. I also love tall boots. I love leggings on other people, but have yet to find a pair I really like. I'll have to check out the LoveSurf ones!

LOVE the outfits!! I just pasted a bunch of those tops and the infinity scarf in an evernote note. I really wish I could pull off tights, they look like the most comfortable thing ever. That marled old navy sweater looks perfect. I might go try it on, because they sell tall sizes on their website and I want i to cover my bum. I need a pair of boots too. Ugh, thanks a lot ;)

I love your comment about the bomber jacket looking cute "If you stood the right way." Story of my life when I'm shopping, I thought I was the only one. I'm so picky, but I don't want to buy something I won't love and change my mind on after wearing it once, letting it sit in my closet until I donate it. Hey, at least my wallet likes shopping with me.

SUPER cute outfits! I love every single one. I'm totally digging the plaid look lately too. I'm also loving little pops of leopard in my flats or belt or scarf, and then mixing it with plaid or stripes is fun. Scarves are one of my favorite accessories. Can't wait for it to get a little cooler here to start wearing them more regularly!

I really like these fashion posts! I decided to give StitchFix one more shot and am getting a fix later this month. I just worry that I might not like anything and, like you said, choose something to not lose out on the $20 styling fee. The scarf you got is super cute at least though :)

I've been super disappointed with the last two fixes I've gotten. I'm not sure if I'll ever request another fix even though there was nothing better than seeing the box on my doorstep. My stylist didn't listen to anything I said and didn't follow through with my recommendations. SUPER disappointing!

I just received my box today and was also SUPER disappointed in it. Although I received some good pieces I was mad because I was very specific in wanting some cozy, oversized sweaters I could wear with leggings and for holiday card photos...I didn't receive one sweater in my fix. I backed out of my December fix but might try it out again in January. :(
