Monday was an extra fun day because it was Jay’s birthday! Now I can officially call him “old” for the next six months (since we’re six months apart in age). Happy birthday, old man. Mwahaha.
Since Jay still had to work on Monday, it was a regular day for me and the boys. Except for the fact that I actually ventured out to Target with both of them by myself, which was a major victory.
I probably wouldn’t have attempted except for the fact that I needed to get Jay a birthday present. I had decided over the weekend that I was going to get him a Fitbit Alta after he had been talking about it, but never got the chance to get out over the weekend. So a last minute trip it was, and it was a success (got the last one in the store!). Oh, and FYI: Target has the Fitbit Alta on the Cartwheel app for 10% off!!
After our late morning excursion and an afternoon of good naps for both of them, we enjoyed some time outside before daddy got home.
The big one played around in his police car and and had a blast running through puddles that “look like coffee,” as he told me.
And the little one napped away in his carrier. Look at all that new hair coming in! <3
Thanks again for sending the carrier, Katy! I’m still getting the swing of it (it’s the Solly Baby Wrap) but it’s proving to be rather helpful!
Once Jay got home from work, we hung for a bit before I informed him that we were actually heading out for his birthday. My parents came and took Lucas for a few hours while my mother-in-law came and watched Alex (I’ll say it 100 times over…thank goodness for grandparents!) and once everyone was settled, we hit the road!
And much to his surprise, it wasn’t just the two of us going out for dinner and drinks…it was friends and family, too! Surprise!
We all had a blast hanging out and chatting, and there were plenty of laughs to go around. The perfect way to spend our first “date night” out since having Alex, if you ask me!
We all met up at Druthers (which you’ve probably seen on here a few times!) so of course, I had to order some of my favorite pretzels with beer cheese dip to share with the table.
And for dinner, I ordered their Cuban Reuben which was delicious.
After a couple of hours, we got word that Alex wasn’t the happiest of campers and was having a bit of trouble getting to bed, so we figured we should head back home. We got home, managed to get everyone to bed, and just had an overall really great night!
Cheers to birthdays, good food, and amazing friends and family <3

Wow, what a great day! Getting out of the house with the boys and a surprise birthday celebration – that’s impressive! Too funny that you call him old until you have your birthday.

I love that you surprised Jay! I’m not one for surprises, but something like this probably would have left me in a wad of tears. It is so sweet!
