Thank You!

By Courtney Leave a Comment

Before anything else, I’ve got to say thank you all so much for your kind words and encouragements from last night’s post.  I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about posting such a personal story of mine, but the weight that has been lifted from my shoulders completely surpasses any amount of nerves I may have had.  It’s a wonderful feeling! :)

When it came to this morning’s breakfast, it was time to stop and smell the flowers peanut butter!

My usual breakfast cravings were back in full swing today, and I thoroughly enjoyed a beloved B+PB+B.   A Weight Watchers bagel smeared with some Saratoga Peanut Butter Co. Maple PB & 1/2 of a sliced banana.

It was SCRUMPTIOUS!

Aaaaand, coffee friday ended up coming a little early this week. ;)

I completely forgot to set the coffee pot last night before going to bed, and was too lazy to prep it this morning.  So a quick stop at DD’s it was, for a yummy hazelnut with skim milk, and NO splenda!  I’m doin’ it guys, I’m really trying!  I did add 1 packet of PureVia , which is not as sweet as Splenda, but could definitely become a substitute of mine.

In case you haven’t heard of PureVia, here’s some quick facts from their website:

“PureVia is a zero calorie, all natural alternative to sugar and artificial sweeteners that’s made from the sweetest part of the stevia leaf.”

“Stevia Rebaudiana Bertoni (commonly called stevia) is a member of the Chrysanthemum family. Stevia is a natural herbal sweetener with no calories and no carbohydrates.”

“The stevia leaf has been used as a sweetener for hundreds of years in South America. It is called “Ka’a He’e” (“Sweet Herb”) in Paraguay.”

“The sweetness found in stevia comes from several natural ingredients. Rebaudioside A (Reb A) is the sweetest and purest extract of the stevia leaf. This natural sweetener is more than 200 times sweeter than sugar.”

Question for the morning:

Do you use artificial sweeteners?

I used to be completely HOOKED on Splenda.  I used it in massive quantities in my coffee everyday, sprinkled it in yogurt, or on fruit.  However, since I’ve been experiencing some intense stomach pains for quite some time now, I’m experimenting to see how I feel if I cut these out of my diet.  We’ll see how it goes!

Oh I just love my stevia drops! I got them at whole foods, they are really potent so you olnly need a drop or two! I got vanilla drops this time and they are great especially in coffee!

I cut out splenda, stevia, and anything else fake. I was having horrible stomach aches, bloating, and awful gas. The artificial sweeteners were definitely to blame! I dont' feel like that anymore! It may have been that I was eating a large amount of artificial sweeteners too. I ate everything sugar free to save calories. Now I don't think about food in that sense. Food is energy. Why would I eat something that gives me no energy? To sweeten things I use REAL sugar, maple syrup, or agave nectar.

I use Splenda in my coffee..and that's about it. But I do have a nice little collection pretty much everywhere I go 'just in case' someplace might be without it- car, work, purse, house, etc. :D Can you please send me the link / info were you heard that artificial sweetners could cause stomach pains? I would love to read about it myself.

My doctor is actually one who told me about it first, and since then, I've seen some various articles here and there on the internet...I just don't know how credible they are. Considering I already have some stomach issues, perhaps that's why they may be bothering me and not others?

I use splenda from time to time but not often. I don't mind if I do use it b/c it doesnt affect my stomach but I do really like truvia etc in place of it.

My aunt was really into healthy natural foods and she introduced me to stevia years ago. My mom used it alot in baking, which changed the texture of some foods a little but it was still good. Like you said-its been used for hundreds of years in other cultures. However, brands like Truvia, and Purvia use fillers to make the stevia extract look and act more like sugar. I'd say its best to use the extract in liquid form, as it has no fillers. This would be my thoughts, I really have no real idea based on official evidence haha.

I love the PureVia. I too was hooked on Spenda and equal and got horrible migranes and lots of bloating. Since switching the migrianes are gone and the bloatings a little better but I too have stomach issues. I'm doing gluten free now which does seem to be helping.
