Recently, I was asked how I was “going to be active” in 2015. At first, I thought the question was basically talking about working out. Sure, I’ll be keeping my workouts fairly regular (I hope!)…but the question actually went deeper than that.
The question, I should add, came from Viactiv®, and I learned that their definition of being active (or #BeActiv), meant much more to them. As a part of their #BeActiv with Viactiv® campaign, they’re looking at all sorts of ways to #BeActiv, because being active can mean many things, from small daily changes to taking big leaps.
So I’ll throw this out there…
I have some two potential big leaps that I’m really hoping will pan out for 2015. First, Jay and I are hoping to be able to sell our home and move to somewhere with a bit more space. We love our home, and it will be absolutely bittersweet to leave it, but it’s time to gain some more space. Second, I’m hopeful that this is the year we’ll be able to expand our family with a Baby Horan 2.0(!). I’m no stranger to the fact that this is not always as easy as we’d hope, but I’m going to trust in the fact that when the time is right, it will happen.
So yes, those are probably two of the biggest leaps that I think we could possibly take this year, and I have no doubt that this year is going to be full of ups and downs. I’m already trying to prepare myself for that!
But in the meantime (since neither of those are, most likely, not happening anytime too soon), I’m focusing on some smaller ways to be active and make some changes. You may remember back at Christmas time, I told you all that I received a wonderful gift from my parents in the form of an online photography course.
Well, over the weekend, I finally took the plunge and decided to get started!
The course is, no doubt, going to take some time, and I’m really not sure how I’m going to find the time to fit it in. But I’m sure I’ll figure it out, and I’m so excited to finally (hopefully) step up my photography game a bit!
Other ways I’m planning to #BeActiv in 2015?
- Get organized! I used to kick-ass at this, and I’ve let some things fall by the wayside. This year, it’s time to get back in the game and organization belongs everywhere, from the home, to my blog, to finances, and even my closet.
- Loose the clutter! This goes along somewhat with getting organized, but if we’re hoping to sell our home later this year, then we really need to work on getting rid of the clutter that I know we don’t need (I just have a hard time letting go of some things…).
We’re getting there, slowly but surely!
- Run a marathon! Haha, I’m kidding…no way. Maybe a 5k? Who knows.
- Eat more veggies! I’ve been doing better with this recently, with my food prepping and making lunch salads for the week on weekends, but it can always be better. I’m hoping to keep up the veggie intake with lots of delicious, fresh produce.
- Hit my daily calcium requirement! I’ve never been a huge milk drinker, although I do like many forms of dairy (i.e., ice cream). Even still, I realized I barely ever hit my recommended daily calcium. (Want an easy way to determine if you’re getting enough calcium? Check out this chart at Viactiv to see the recommended daily amount for you by age!) Speaking of…
Did You Know…?
- If your body is not getting enough calcium it begins to take it from the bones, decreasing bone mineral density which can eventually lead to osteopenia and osteoporosis.
- Calcium plays an important role in strengthening bones and teeth, as well as helping muscles (including the heart) and nerves function properly.
- Calcium isn’t manufactured in the body, so it must be introduced by outside sources (diet, supplements).
- The majority of Americans do not receive the amount of calcium needed daily based on diet alone – around 70% of women are calcium deficient.
- Females are born with lower bone density than men which creates a higher need for daily calcium intake; however, most women receive only half of their RDA calcium in their daily diets.
The Viactiv Lineup!
As part of my participation in this program, Viactiv sent me four of their different products and, below, you can see my initial and overall reaction to each of them:
- Milk Chocolate Calcium Soft Chews – Good! Reminded me a bit of a Tootsie Roll.
- Caramel Calcium Soft Chews – Really good! If you like caramel, you’ll like these!
- Sugar-Free Milk Chocolate Calcium Soft Chews – Weren’t my favorite. Probably won’t eat any more of them (didn’t care for their sugar free aftertaste).
- Viactiv Gummies – My absolute favorite!!
So a couple quick things about the Viactiv Gummies, since they. are. delicious…
- I seriously want to eat, like, 10 of them a day…they’re like candy! And they remind me of a particular chewy, gummy candy that I’ve had in the past and I still cannot put my finger on it.
- Each bottle comes with an assortment of tropical strawberry, peach-mango and pineapple fruit flavors.
- Two Viactiv Gummies, 2x a day, provide 100% of the daily value of calcium plus vitamins D.
- Viactiv Gummies are gluten and dairy free.
Viactiv is available at stores nationwide, including Wal-Mart, Rite Aid, CVS, Target and Walgreens (but just a heads up, the Viactiv Gummies are available only at Walgreens!) and you can learn more about Viactiv by visiting their website and staying connected with them at their Facebook page.

Those are some exciting changes (hopefully) coming up this year! How fun!! I’m jealous of your photography course. I’ve always thought it’d be so fun to somewhat perfect my photog skills. I guess you’ll just have to share what you learn!
We actually have very similar goals for 2015! I’m hoping to declutter, but also to purchase a larger home and (fingers crossed!!) get pregnant. I’m struggling, as you did, to put on some weight and healthy fat to regain a regular cycle. Hoping to see it all pay off this year!
