I’ve recently had a couple of different doctor’s appointments where I’ve had to write down or verbally provide a list of the medications that I’m currently taking. Yes, I do still take prenatal vitamins. I haven’t been pregnant in 2+ years, and haven’t breasted in over a year, but I just getting in the added vitamins and minerals. It’s something I actually followed up with my OB/GYN about the last time I was in for my annual appointment a couple of months ago; I’d heard conflicting things about continuing to take them postpartum, so just to be sure, I wanted to check and make sure it was okay to still be taking them. She answered with a solid YES.
My brand of choice has long been One A Day® Women’s Prenatal Multivitamins (also the #1 OB/GYN recommended over the counter brand of prenatal multivitamins). I’m pretty sure I initially bought them just because they were one of the first brands I came across while out shopping, but I’ve stuck with them.

You’re not the only one!
I take them instead of a regular multivitamin because I love what they do for my hair and nails. Also, it’s hard to find a decent multivitamin without iron and my levels are stupid high.
Plus, while we’re not trying, the doctor told me it’s not a bad idea to have it on board if you’re open to getting pregnant.
I don’t think it’s that strange to keep taking them.

I started taking a prenatal over 10 years ago when we started trying to conceive. I have since than had 2 babies (ages 7 and 2) and continued during, between and now after being pregnant. I think it’s a fair question to ask though especially as a health-care provider because they want and need to know these things about you. I will keep taking it until I’m old enough to move on to the 50+ vitamin!

I still take prenatal vitamins. Well, I am currently breastfeeding. But, I took them years before I had my first child (4 years old) and will continue to take after my almost 6 month old is done breastfeeding. I have had many doctors (general practitioners and OB’s) tell me that prenatals are the perfect blend of nutrients for women 20ish to mid to late 40’s and that they recommend all women take those in lieu of any other multivitamin.
