Working on that Postpartum Hair Loss Thing

By Courtney 7 Comments

This post is brought to you by a STSL sponsor.

Pregnancy and motherhood are both absolutely wonderful things, do not get me wrong.

However.

Some of those pesky postpartum side effects that come with it are totally not fun. I know that some of you out there are/have been lucky enough to not have to experience some or ANY of them, for that matter, so you can consider me officially jealous of that!

For me, two of the worst offenders have been spider and varicose veins in my legs (which I’m planning to treat this fall) and postpartum hair loss.

I experienced postpartum hair loss after Lucas, but it seems to be even worse the second time around. The worst was probably between 4-8 months postpartum, but I’ve still been losing a lot more hair than I’d like.

While I’ve been losing it all over, the most noticeable spots have been (of course) right around what frames my face, and I’ve got lots of baby hairs to prove it.

Maybe it’s just me being hyper-focused on it, but I feel like you can totally see the thinning spots when my hair is down these days…

As opposed to what it looked like when I was newly pregnant with Alex (October 2015).

Granted, I know my hair is curled and has a lot more hairspray in that last picture, but still…there’s no denying the fact that this mane of mine is thinning and still losing a LOT of hair.

Soooo, to try and combat all of that postpartum hair loss, I’m doing a couple of things.

  • I’m taking a multi-vitamin
  • I’m taking collagen chews (I buy these in fruit punch from eVitamins)
  • I’m trying out a new shampoo and conditioner!

postpartum hair loss shampoo and conditioner

I was recently introduced to PURA D’OR by 2-Minute Club, and after seeing the thousands of reviews (and reading through many of them!) I’ve decided to give it a try.

postpartum hair loss shampoo and conditioner

One of the reasons that drew me in to PURA D’OR was the fact that their formula says it fights thinning hair naturally without a lot of crazy chemicals (no sulfates, no parabens, hypo-allergenic, cruelty-free, and color safe). While I don’t think I’ll ever be able to go fully chemical-free, I have been making a conscious effort to stick with products lately that have minimal/more natural ingredients. It also says that their shampoos fortify and energize hair from root to tip reducing hair loss due to breakage. A healthy scalp is always a plus!

I’ve only been using it for a couple of weeks now, so it’s a bit too soon to be able to give any results, but I’m excited to continue using it and let you guys know what happens.

I can tell you that so far, I like it. The smell is INCREDIBLE (and was one of the few things I could actually smell while I was sick for a while there last week!) and it doesn’t seem to weigh my hair down or anything like that, which is always something I try to avoid. And apparently after an 8- week clinical study, 9 out of every 10 users noticed measurably improved volume to their hair. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed to be one of those 9!

So if you’re also dealing with postpartum hair loss and want to give it a try yourself, the PURA D’OR shampoo and conditioner system is available via 2-Minute Club and they’re offering STSL readers $20 OFF + free shipping on the system! All you have to do is head HERE and enter code SWEETTOOTH at checkout!

***Please note that this is a subscription from 2-Minute Club, but customers can cancel at any time without any commitments or fees.***

I’m eager to continue using the PURA D’OR system and to check back in with my results in a couple of months, so stay tuned! How about you guys? Anyone else dealing with pesky postpartum hair loss or hair thinning??

Ahhh, while I don't want to say that I'm happy to hear you are still dealing with hair loss. I kind of am! After my first daughter I only dealt with it for a few months but I swear I am still losing handfuls of hair everyday! I am 13.5 months postpartum. What is going on? And the hairs around my face are driving me absolutely crazy. Thanks for the post, I can't wait to hear if this shampoo/conditioner helps out!

I experienced severe postpartum hairloss after having my 3rd baby back in November. He's now 7 months old and im finally seeing regrowth. It's such a vein thing to worry about but I'm so attached to my hair. Im also nursing him and I've read that when you stop nursing, your hormones can fluctuate and cause more hairloss 😭, lets hope that's not the case!

Hi Courtney. Do you have an update on using the Pura D'or shampoo? Dealing with this as well and now actually expecting another baby so hormones are out of whack at this point. 😅

Your hair looks very pretty after baby. My pregnancy was nightmare whenever I see hair on the comb, my doctor recommended me Themomsco pregnancy conditioner & after some weeks I can see the results. Thanks for the article, its a good transformation.

I had the same experience! After I had my baby my hair started falling out like crazy. After many doctor visits and tests, he recommended that I use a natural shampoo, because my post-baby body was now not having a good reaction to the chemicals in shampoos. He recommended the Made from Earth Tea & Protein Shampoo, because its all natural, and has proteins in it. After about one week, I could see my hair getting stronger and filling out more. It has stopped falling out now. You will need a condtioner after using this shampoo, because it does make your hair like squeaky clean (from the tea tree oil), but its worth it because you get your hair back!
