Hey hey! Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend so far!

Well, my day was pretty fun-tastic…

We finally opened the pool (WOOT!) and we were quite thrilled to see that it was crystal clear with only one gigantic frog at the bottom (we’ve had much worse).

This is where I spent a good amount of my afternoon. Sun

And if I wasn’t poolside, I was in the kitchen, baking up a storm!

The beginnings of my Stars & Stripes Cookie Cake

A cupcake order (including a batch of these and these)…

Oh, and these…yeah, we’ll talk about these during the week. Winking smile

The one minor catastrophe that took place mid-baking were these lovely burns…

Note to self: Stick with the oven mitt, not the knitted pot holder. Oooof.

While I was in the midst of my baking, we were actually greeted with a couple surprise visitors…

My in-laws, who thought that we were actually going to be out for the evening, came over with intentions to surprise us by filling my newly weeded flower beds in the back yard. How cool is that??

Jay and his parents were hard at work on those flowers…but don’t worry, I made sure to take care of all the supervisory duties. Winking smile

So now, thanks to my supervising all of their hard work, we’ve got some beautiful

(and some mystery) flowers to look at!

I’m so excited! Smile

Now for the rest of the evening, Jay and I have a few things on the agenda…

A bonfire, S’mores, and friends…

Does it get much better than that? Smile

I love s’mores! I had some at a bbq last night for dessert, and was very happy. They always make me feel so summery.

Sorry for the burns :-(

3 erica July 2, 2011 at 8:36 pm

Yikes! Those burns look like they hurt! I always burn myself because I try and use dish towels instead of oven mitts. lol. Oops :)

LOVE s’mores… my neighbors have one of those fire pits & make s’mores & I secretly hope that they’ll invite me over one of these times! :-)

Mmm, stick a potato chip in one of the s’mores!

7 Mary @ Bites and Bliss July 2, 2011 at 9:52 pm

S’mores YUM! Your cupcakes never fail to amaze me- they are all so uniform!

11 Katherine July 2, 2011 at 10:24 pm

I used to be able to DOWN the smores!

12 Courtney July 3, 2011 at 12:24 am

Haha, I still can! :)

13 Lindsay@ In Sweetness and In Health July 2, 2011 at 11:08 pm

Looks like you had such a fun day! (minus the hand burn :(). I’m so jealous you have a pool.

14 Gina @ Running to the Kitchen July 2, 2011 at 11:43 pm

We just did smores in our chiminea on the deck last night. It doesn’t get much better than that! Although, your legit fire pit is a little cooler than our chiminea :)

S’mores are the best! We had them last weekend with Reese’s – you must try it sometime!

16 Courtney July 3, 2011 at 12:24 am

Oh girl, I know…s’mores with Reese’s are amazing! I’ve come up with quite a few “gourmet” s’more combos in my day ;)

17 Jessica @ The Process of Healing July 3, 2011 at 12:24 am

Mmm… s’mores!!

18 Lindsey July 3, 2011 at 12:26 am

I love PB and have no idea how I never thought of using Reese’s till now! Any other combos to share?!

19 Courtney July 3, 2011 at 10:51 am

Oh gosh…I’d have to think. A couple that come off the top of my head:
-Dark Chocolate & Strawberry Jam
-Crunch Bars
-Milk Chocolate & Pretzels (we did this last night…AMAZING!)

But one of my FAVORITE things to do is, one the s’more is done, ROLL IT in…
-Rice Krispies
-Heath Bar Bits
-Mini Chocolate Chips

Can you tell I’m a little obsessed with my s’mores? ;)

20 Lindsey July 3, 2011 at 11:51 am

Those are genius ideas! I will try some for sure now!

21 Amanda July 3, 2011 at 1:52 am

Smores….. That is THE life! Enjoy it!!! :)

24 Aine @ Something to Chew Over July 3, 2011 at 5:52 am

I love s’mores, I first discovered them when I was a camp counselor a few years ago – we don’t have them in Ireland so they were a revelation!

25 Cassie July 3, 2011 at 6:59 am

Ooo, smores! And gorgeous flowers.

26 Brenda July 3, 2011 at 8:27 am

I’m soooooooo jealous of your beautiful pool! Your yard looks great!!

27 Kristen @ notsodomesticated July 3, 2011 at 11:03 am

I’ve burned myself many a time in the kitchen… I still have a scar on my upper arm from pulling a cookie sheet out of the oven 5 months ago (don’t ask how I somehow managed to burn my UPPER arm!). So I feel your pain. ;)

28 kristen July 3, 2011 at 11:33 am

those flowers are really pretty! And what a great surprise.

29 Char July 3, 2011 at 12:50 pm

I’ll take some of those cupcakes off your hands GLADLY! Or any of the treats for that matter. Great supervising!!! I supervise in the same sort of way! I don’t think I’d be leaving that pool all weekend!

30 stacey July 3, 2011 at 5:10 pm
