I don’t know about you guys, but I think summer just has to be my favorite season of the year when it comes to food. Sure, don’t get me wrong, I love me some pumpkin just like every other obsessed blogger out there come fall (seriously…I know we’re crazy). But there’s just something about summer that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Firing up the grill, crisp glasses of fresh sangria, simply sweet berries and crisp veggies from the garden…Mmmm mmmm.
So let’s not ruin the mood and talk about the fact that it’s almost over, okay?
Of course, with all of that good food comes the inevitable snacking, since I thrive off of snacks all day, err day. Anyone else with me?? But as much as I love the snacking, I still try to be mindful of the ones I’m choosing (the majority of the time) because let’s face it…soft serve cones with rainbow sprinkles every day, sadly, just isn’t gonna cut it.
I’d say I definitely go through phases when it comes to my snack choices, but this summer’s picks have actually stayed pretty similar for the past few months. Here’s a few I’ve been loving…
Peanut & Almond Butter…on everything
Because, really, I just can’t get enough. Carrots, celery, graham crackers, rice cakes, toast, bananas, apples, spoons, knives, and forks. It goes good on practically anything.
Fresh Berries
Seriously…summertime strawberries and blueberries? It just doesn’t get much better than that. I’ve never been a huuuuuge blackberry fan though, and raspberries are alright. Sometimes I just eat ‘em straight up for a little something sweet; other times, I’ll pair them with a yogurt or some dark chocolate.
So good.
Veggies & Hummus
Again, this is nothing earth shattering or new, but I really just love the combo. There’s actually been a few times where I walk away with a bit of a stomach ache thanks to the excess beans in the hummus. Whoops. #cantstopwontstop
Greek Yogurt…thrown in the freezer for 20-30 minutes
I already did, and always will love Greek yogurt as it is. But on especially warm days, it’s nice to give it an extra little chill and have it slightly frozen (two of my favorite flavors to do this with are coconut and watermelon). You’ve gotta try it! Oh, and equally delicious? Frozen Orange Creamsicle Snacks. Yumm.
Watermelon Sherbet
Okay, I suppose we could argue on how “healthy” this one is. But I don’t care. I’m still including it. I love it.
Trail Mix
This is one of those snacks that I really need to make sure I portion out a bit…otherwise, I’m diving in by the handful. Know what I mean? A couple of my favorites as of late are this Archer Farms mix from Target and the Happy Trekking mix (Almonds, Cashews, Pistachios, Chocolate, Cranberries & Cherries) from Trader Joe’s.
And finally…a new favorite to add to the mix!
Detour SMART Bars
This was actually a new-to-me snack over the past month and a half or so, thanks to a campaign I was chosen to participate in with FitFluential, and I’ve been using them as mid-morning or mid-afternoon snacks at least a couple days a week.
While the Detour SMART Bars do have a slight “protein bar” taste (hard to describe, but if you’ve ever had a protein bar, you probably know what I mean), the overall flavor is enough to keep me coming back. Not to mention the fact that each bar packs in 10 grams of protein.
I’ve been able to try the Apple Cinnamon and Blueberry flavors, which I’d have to say I probably enjoy equally. They pair perfectly with a cup of those fresh berries I’ve been crushing on, too.
If you want to find out more about the Detour SMART Bars, be sure to check ‘em out on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
OH…and also be sure to check me out on Instagram so you don’t miss the flash giveaway I’m holding (it ends tonight at 11:59pm EST!)
So let’s hear it! What are some of your favorite summer snacks lately?

I am on a 3-snack rotation at the moment including:
1. Almonds & Dates
2. Plain Greek Yogurt with a dash of cinnamon for flavor
3. An “oldie but a goodie” – cheese & crackers
I’m with you regarding Nut Butters and am still wondering why they are not in their own category on the food pyramid?! : )
Erin Duffy says
My favorite snack this summer has been plain greek yogurt mixed with 1TB PB, 1 TB honey and apple slices to dip it in!
Courtney says
Mmmm, that’s always a good one! I never think to do it though…thanks for the reminder! :)
Lindsay @ Lindsay's List says
We go through SO many jars of nut butter, it’s a bit ridiculous. And that Justin’s Vanilla tastes like straight up frosting. Mmmmm.
Courtney says
OMG I know, right?! I can’t get enough!!
Shawna says
those Smart bars look awesome –def have to find those!
Holly @ EatGreatBEGreat says
Summer is my favorite time of year for the food as well! Mostly it’s because of all the wonderful fresh produce! I can’t get enough of it. Fresh berries, Jersey peaches, tomatoes and zucchini are all some of my favs right now.
Shel@PeachyPalate says
My favourite summer snack has to be ice cream!!! I can’t have dairy so make my own every week! With no ice cream maker…4 hours of work…so worth it!
Melissa says
I love the watermelon “ice cream” idea! I think that is way healthier than actual ice cream. I love eating yogurt for dessert.
kristin @ W [H] A T C H says
i’ve never tried those, but am always looking for good GF bars!
Megan @ Piece of Kake says
I’m a big fan of yogurt and fruit in the summer! It’s so filling and always refreshing :0)
Liz says
My favorite right now is cut apples with cinnamon and string cheese as well as fresh pineapple and whole raw almonds. These snacks work well for me because they are easy to pack and take with me to work.
Courtney says
That all sounds super delish! Do you just put the apples, string cheese, and cinnamon all together?
Liz says
I slice up the apples, sprinkle them with cinnamon and then eat a slice of apple, eat a bit of cheese, apple, cheese, and so on and so forth :)
haley @Cupcakes and Sunshine.com says
i LOVE the new watermelon greek yogurt! i’m not a huge watermelon fan, but i love it!
Kim Fairbrother says
I have been loving all things watermelon this summer, including the new Chobani yogurt! I never thought to freeze it though! Yummy!

Courtney, I normally love your blog. But gotta say, what is UP with all of these sponsored posts?? They’re sorta turning me off…
Courtney says
Hey Stephanie, thank you so much for the feedback.
Normally, I really try my best to space out any sponsored posts I have coming up but sometimes the timelines are out my control and they wind up being bunched together (for example, I have another one that I need to post tomorrow…I know!…so heads up in case you want to skip reading!). I understand how they could be a turnoff, and I’m sorry you feel that way. I will still continue to have sponsored posts in the future because the truth is that they do help support this blog, and I am forever appreciative for those who continue to come back and read. That said, I will continue to only promote brands/companies that I feel strongly about. But again, I really do appreciate your feedback. It’s something for me to keep in mind when scheduling posts and/or thinking about accepting another offer. Thank you so much for reading!
Stephanie A says
Ah ok got it. Good to know about the deadlines. You’re by far my favourite blogger (I have a baby girl about 2 months younger than your stud) and so it’s fun to follow along. However, I just haaate the sponsered posts but I totally get needing blog support. I mean, you DO have a cutie to shop for (I KNOW how that is). Thanks for your kind reponse!!
Courtney says
Aww, how fun! Congrats to you on your baby girl! :)
And thank YOU for the feedback – you inspired me for the beginning of tomorrow’s blog post, haha!
Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
Favorite snacks for me lately have included coconut yogurt, Kind bars and celery with sunflower butter. Yum! Veggies and hummus is always good too.
Maria says
Favorite summer snack would have to be a bowl full of strawberries. Nothing like in the summertime. Or watermelon after a long, sweaty run.
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
I love to have trail mix with apples or cottage cheese. Always a tasty mixture. Trader Joe’s has some great trail mix baggies, which are conveniently sold in single servings so you don’t overdue it. I’ve never frozen a Greek yogurt tub, and I may have to try that!
Furonda says
I am so ducking over summer. #haaay
Furonda says
Reason being? My left tit is always sweaty underneath (not my right for some reason) and it’s too gatdang hot to do anything outside! Brang on the winter weather, sweaters and bumpkin (yaaas, pumpkin – booze and pumpkin) okaaaaay?!
Furonda says
And my favorite summer time snack is a warm crisp apple galette with the good brand of vanilla ice cream in top of that with a side of Jim beam, grey goose and thyme for garnish. #classy
Nicole @ Squash on Squash says
My favourite summer snacks have got to be frozen mango, anything with nut butter (crackers and GoLean crunch=huge fave), fresh berries, and Greek yogurt.
It’s kind of scary how I will put nut butter on absolutely everything, but, I love it.
Jaime says
How long do you freeze the greek yogurt for? SUCH a great idea!
Courtney says
Just 20-30 minutes! Definitely give it a try :)
Jaime says
Oh nice! Thanks! :)
April @ Simply Sweet Living says
My favorite summer time snacks are watermelon, Lara bars and anything with hummus as well. My favorite is watermelon though! I really think there is potential for trading in dessert for watermelon. Maybe ;)
