Something I’ve Never Done Before

This afternoon, I made a successful trip to Target and picked up a birthday present for a very special someone. I also did something I’ve never done before

I went to see a movie all by myself.

And when I say by myself, I mean it quite literally…the theater was empty!

So I hunkered down in my seat of choice and got out my movie snacks: a pre-popped 100-Calorie bag of my favorite style kettle corn, a Sprite Zero, and of course…some sweets.

Jay and I still have some leftover Easter candy in the house, so I packed up a mini container of some Sour Patch Kids and Starbursts.

It’s definitely a good idea for me to pre-package my movie snacks. Otherwise, being in the dark tends to make me throw caution to the wind and I end up eating a lot more than I need to. Hey, I’ve even been known to package up cupcakes for a movie.

I finally got my chance to see Bridesmaids, and I’m so glad I did…it was really funny, and I was totally laughing out loud all by myself on more than one occasion. Winking smile

By the time I was on my way home, I was starving. I already knew that I was on my own for dinner tonight, which would have been the perfect opportunity to eat up some of my leftover salmon. But as it turns out, my stomach had other things in mind…

My drive home brought me right past a Chipotle, and before I knew it, I was standing in line ordering a chicken burrito bowl.

Of course, I also had to get a side of chips and guacamole. Winking smile

This is actually only the second time I’ve had Chipotle, and I can honestly say that I forget how darn spicy it is. Good lord.

But despite its uber-spiciness, and the fact that it’s overpriced, there’s no denying that it sure is delicious!

Now it’s time to go get crackin’ on a batch of birthday cupcakes for tomorrow. Smile

Hope you’re all having a great start to the weekend!

Question for the Evening:

Have you ever gone to see a movie by yourself? If you haven’t, would you?

  1. says

I would def. see a movie by myself…and have before! I think it was some kid movie (Toy Story 3) that I saw by myself…which was great because I ended up balling during the end, AND I even brought my own snacks too…but got asked to put them away…:-( Boo! I think people need to be cooler and do things they want on their own, without worrying who will judge!!

  2. says

I’ve been to the movies myself, but only once. When I was pregnant I had a three hour gap between my OB-GYN appointment and my sonogram so I went to a nearby movie theater and saw one of the Twilight movies. It wasn’t so bad, but that might be because it was in the middle of the day. I think I’d feel a bit lonely at the movies alone on a Friday night.

Before I had my baby I went to the movies by myself at least once a week! My husband wouldn’t always want to see the movies I wanted to see so instead of waiting months for it to come to DVD, I just went by myself…. lot! It’s sort if freeing to do things alone and feel confident doing so!! Glad you liked the movie!!!

  4. says

I LOVE Chipotle! I don’t really find it to be overpriced – I think it’s quite reasonable! I have never seen a movie all by myself, but I just might do the same thing with Btidesmaids. I want to see it and no one wants to go with me!!

  5. says

I totally have. With 2 small kids, sometimes the hubby and I will take turns going to a movie alone. But one time when I went alone, I was the only one in the theater…. UNTIL this weirdo came and sat right behind me!!! Every other seat was open in the theater and he sat right behind me!!!! Needless to say, I couldn’t enjoy the movie. Yuck! hehe Oh well. Glad you enjoyed the movie :) I can’t wait to see that one! Have a great weekend.

  6. says

    1. Way to be! I’ve never gone to a movie by myself but I wouldn’t be against it.
    2. Burrito bowls are so delicious! I love getting extra salsa on mine.
    3. Sour patch kids are my favorite candy ever.

  7. says

I went to Bridesmaids alone, too! Glad you enjoyed it.

Chipotle’s salad is actually one of my favs there–honey lime dressing is killer!

I am super impressed that you still have Easter candy! Mine was gone the week after. I made smores out of peeps & chocolate bunnies. YUM!

  8. says

I’ve gone to the movies alone a couple times, i kind of enjoy it! and i LOVE Chipotle! It is spicy, but I love it! The carnitas is really good and not as spicy as the other meat, if you’re looking for some variety (and healthy wise, it’s the same as the chicken).

      • says

the barbacoa is really good too, it’s def spicy but has so much flavor! And I can’t handle spicy food very well due to acid reflux and it doesn’t bother me.

  9. Kassi says

This is so funny!! I actually went and saw bridesmaids this afternoon too and afterwards I had a Freebirds (very similar to Chipotle) burrito bowl. Its like you were blogging about my day!

  10. says

I’ve heard such good things about that movie, I’m surprised the theater was empty!

I haven’t seen a movie by myself but I did see a show on stage by myself. It was actually very enjoyable. I’ve dined by myself too and that can be fun sometimes! :-)

  11. says

That;s awesome! I love when the theater’s empty like that!! Although, I’ve never gone by myself. Mainly because I don’t much care for movies and it’s too expensive..but they’re fun every now and then.

  12. says

I’ve never gone alone, I’ll usually just go for a Redbox movie if I’m by myself. It actually doesn’t even cross my mind, but now you’ve got me thinking about it…

  13. says

i have never been to a movie by myself. but then again, i rarely go to the movies…i can’t even remember the last one i saw in a theater!

i wish we had a chipotle…those burrito bowls look yummers!

  14. says

I actually enjoy movies by myself because Hunni won’t go to the same ones I like. Bridesmaids is a great choice and one to laugh at out loud. “I have a bear sandwich.”

Chipotles vegetarian burrito bowls are some of my favorite GF fast food items. They are pretty spicy but considering they use all organic ingredients and don’t skimp on the guac makes them a great price. I wish I had been at Chipotle with you…I would have loved a burrito bowl today.

  15. says

I haven’t but totally would! I love that you packed your own snacks, here the theater employees are silly strict and actually watch for people eating/drinking food that wasn’t bought there! So I have only ever been brave enough to sneak in a bottle of water!

  16. says

i haven’t been to the movies by myself, but i definitely would. i just saw bridesmaids on wednesday, i thought it was extremely funny too except i saw it with my grandmother and its a little inappropriate to be watching with her, but it was an experience!

  17. says

Weird fact about me – I went to see Forrest Gump by myself when I was a kid. The rest of my family was seeing some lame movie and I insisted that I get to watch The Gumo by myself. Never regretted it. I think it was the first movie that ever made me cry.. That or Rudy.

  18. says

I love going to movies on my own but I know a lot of people find the whole thing world! THat I don’t get- it’s not like you are going to be having a discussion IN the movie! As long as I’m guarded with good snacks, that’s enough for me!

  19. says

I am so jealous that you saw Bridesmaids, but I am very tempted to go see it by myself as well!!

I saw Coraline alone, and didn’t regret a second of it. Sometimes, there’s nothing more relaxing than seeing a flick by yourself, maybe digging into some hot popcorn, and just kicking back.

Chipotle, as always, a delicious treat. If I could get it for cheaper, I’d be alllll about it!

  20. says

I’m pretty sure I’ve been to one alone before… I can’t really remember because the past few years I always bring my nana and mom with me because they love movies and it gets them out of the house. 😉

And regarding Chipotle, I just had it last week, and I forgot how much cilantro they put in…. something. I had a burrito, and about halfway through I chomped down on a big piece of cilantro, which I now realize I’m not a fan of. Kinda ruined the burrito because I was afraid of what I would bite into again. I’m sure people who love spicy food and cilantro would have enjoyed it!

  21. Jen M. says

AHAHAHAHAHA, wasn’t that movie great?!?!? I just LOVED it! And every.single.guy I know who has seen it also thought it was hilarious — honestly, I haven’t heard of anyone who saw it and didn’t think it was funny!

And YUM, Chipotle is my favorite! I think they are pretty reasonable, given the large portion — I usually get the vegetarian fajita burrito bowl because the vegetarian comes with guacamole (instead of meat), and I die for their guacamole, and I always have them top it with lettuce, so it’s like a little salad. I actually used their online nutrition thing once and added up how much the vegetarian burrito bowl is with the toppings/options that I get, and it was less calories total than I expected. AHHHH, I want one RIGHT.NOW.

  22. says

Isn’t it a trip? I went to see “Black Swan” by myself and it was wild! It’s great that you went! Hope you enjoyed “Bridesmaids”–I definitely laughed my ass off! ; – )

  23. says

Awww you’re so cute! Love the little bag of popcorn and the packed candy :-) There is a movie theatre by my apt and I’ve ALWAYS wanted to go by myself. There isn’t really anything stopping me. I think just most times I decide to wait for the movie to come out On Demand. But your post inspired me so perhaps I’ll give it a go some time soon.

  24. says

    Newbie to your blog here!

I thought Bridesmaids was hilarious! I’m planning my wedding so I just had to see it when it came out.

That’s awesome that you’ve taken cupcakes to a movie before. I pack almonds and chocolate and popcorn. If I don’t and I end up buying something, its like being robbed.

  25. says

I use those same mini tupperware containers. They’re awesome for peanut butter! I haven’t yet seen a movie by myself, but I’ve considered it a bunch of times. Sometimes it is impossible to get anyone else to go! Such busy lives.

  26. says

I want to see Bridesmaid’s SO bad! I have never been to a movie by myself, either! Way to go for your independent self!

That Chipotle dinner looks yummy, but I cannot do anything too spicy. I am a total wimp, too. Have a great weekend!

  27. says

I’ve been to the movies by myself. It’s not as scary/weird as people think. It’s actually kind of nice! And I LOVE Chipotle – your pictures have me drooling!

  28. says

Looooove Chipotle!!!! Even their plain chips are delicious. They have a hint of lime to them, and I love spicy. The vegetable bowl is ah-ma-zing! I also don’t really feel like it’s fast food (even though technically, it is, you take it home in a bag!)

As for going solo at the movies, I think it’s awesome, and my friends think I’m nuts. But during my employment gap I learned to love a good matinee. Can’t beat the price AND you get to enjoy a movie that you want to see, even if your friends or significant other don’t. There’s no “who picks the movie” because you get to pick the movie…

I’d better stop rambling and make some breakfast before I drive to Chipotle and sit outside waiting for it to open! 😉

  29. says

I give you major kudos…I’ve never gone to a theater by myself but you’ve inspired me now to do it and put my big girl pants on 😉
Ahhh and isn’t chipotle awesome?! And I love their guacamole, that pic had me drooling :)

  30. says

I want to see bridesmaids! I heard it is really good. My son and I just went to the movie to see Cars 2(really cute) and I packed 100 cal kettle corn too, and we hit of the gas station for drinks and a snack for him
