I did not do a very good job of planning out my food to bring to work today. I’ve found that the toughest day for preparing food for work is actually Thursdays; since I don’t get home until later on Wednesday nights, it doesn’t leave much time (or desire) for prepping anything, and unless there’s leftovers, it’s hard for me to get my act together in the morning.
Luckily, I’ve done a pretty good job of stocking our fridge and kitchen with quick-fixes for all of the different food groups; so while it may not look like a big “meal” so-to-say, I was still able to throw a few things together that round out the different food groups pretty well.
A lemon Chobani paired with about 1/4 cup of Quaker Oatmeal Squares and Love Grown Foods granola. (dairy, protein, carbs)
A 100-calorie bag of kettle corn and a banana. (grains, fruits)
Baby carrots & celery sticks paired with Spinach Artichoke Greek yogurt veggie dip. (veggies, dairy-ish)
Unfortunately, I didn’t do a great job of packing much of a dinner, so I’m hoping that tonight doesn’t end up being a late night. Otherwise, I may have to head down the road to Moe’s for a chicken rice bowl and play around with the fancy soda machine again.

My Silly Make Up Tendencies
I realized the other day that I tend to do something kind of silly when it comes to my make up and I’m hoping that I’m not alone on this one…
It seems as though the moment I notice that any of my make up is starting to get low (i.e., I can see a tiny sliver of the bottom of the palette), I immediately think that I need to go and buy more.
Case in point: Back in mid-August, I went to Sephora to stock up on a couple of the essentials that I noticed were “getting low.”
This week- almost 3 months later– I finally opened two of them; and I actually have two more eyeshadows that are still untouched!
I don’t get it? I have no idea why I feel so compelled to go out and restock on these items at the first sign of running low. It’s almost like I think that it’s magically going to disappear overnight or something?
The funny thing is, I don’t feel the need to restock so quickly with everything. For example, last week I ran out of shampoo and actually had to use Jay’s for two days (sorry, babe). And there’s definitely been more than one occasion where I’ve ran out of face wash and have been stuck using…gasp…hand soap.

On a different note, I have quickly been finding myself becoming obsessed with searching for Christmas presents and/or decorations lately. I blame it on the mention of gift ideas this morning and the abundance of Christmas commercial jingles that are already popping up all over the place and are stuck in my head. Ohh goodness. ;)
Questions for the Afternoon:
What food groups would you say you eat the most foods from?
What food groups do you need to try and eat more foods from?
Does anyone else get a little ahead of the game with certain purchases?
Caitlin says
I eat the most foods from veggies, fruits, and proteins. I really do need to add more carbs/fats to do my diet – I’m trying to gain healthy weight, and tend to over-eat on the veggies and fruits. I know that a lot of those groups isn’t bad – as long as I get enough of the other stuff!!
I always want to restock my beauty supplies. I think it’s because I just love buying them and look for the first excuse to do so!
Sylvia @ Frolic Through Life says
I think shopping for makeup is so much fun and I jump on any occasion where I can justify a trip to Sephora or Ulta. Face wash and shampoo are not as fun as pretty blushes and eyes hadows.
I eat a lot of fruit. I love sweets and eating fruit lets me get my sweet fix without going crazy with candy, cake or cookies.
Cat @Breakfast to Bed says
I NEEEEEED to eat less grains. Granted, I only eat whole grains, but man do I eat a lot of them!!! I also need to eat different colored vegetables. It’s ridic.
Heather says
I have been sucked into the vortex of looking up Christmas decorating ideas on Pinterest! Oh, its bad. It’s like a time warp. I look up and 2 hours ahve gone by!
Ellie@fitforthesoul says
I don’t use many beauty supplies (except for mascara and some creams/lotions), and even then, I get reallllyyy lazy with buying new mascara! haha so bad. Because I heard that especially mascara, since it’s an eye product, NEEDS to be replaced often due to bacterial growth, etc. :P And I tend to eat a lot of protein and fats! Okay, maybe carbs too b/c of oatmeal, french toast, and all that in the morning. Have a beautiful day!
Kerry @ Half Healthy, Half Nuts says
I totally do that same thing with things like deoderant, shampoo, face wash, etc. I see that I am getting a little low and then immediately go out and buy more. And then I really don’t need it it for a few weeks. Oh well, better to be safe than sorry. I hate being without something I use everyday!
Mandee @ Mandeelicious says
oh mannnn. i have a serious problem with stuff like that. i do it because i’m always afraid they’re going to discontinue whatever it is that i really love after i wear it out/use it all, and then i’ll be stuck trying to live without it… i mean how could i EVER live without those boots, that shampoo, that bracelet?! i have 2 pairs of my favorite boots because of it… and you don’t even want to know how much i just spent on a sentimental out-of-print journal that i had (and ruined) when i was younger. let’s just say it was the only one on the entire internet, and that seller definitely knew it. i’m crazy!
Brooke @ Waiting to Rise says
I eat way to much dairy…and need to eat more veggies. I do a decent job at dinner…but usually, I’m eating on the fly during the day…so my veggie consumption is limited. I use dairy (yogurt, cottage cheese, string cheese) for my snacks always! Probably carrots & hummus wouldn’t be a bad idea every now and again……lol
Danica @ It's Progression Not Perfection says
I definitely need to get more protein into my diet. I rarely buy meat (due to a tight budget) and I can’t eat much dairy without getting sick (so no yogurt–boo)…
I’m like you on the shopping ahead thing! Whenever anything is getting low I add it to my shopping list because I don’t want to run out…I don’t really know why I do it either haha
Hope you have a great day, even if it is a long one!
Carol @ Lucky Zucca says
I definitely have the same tendency when it comes to beauty supplies. More than once I’ve waited when I saw that silver peeping through only to have the entire cosmetic break apart the next day. Maybe I need to buy nicer makeup? Hah!
I think food-wise I eat too many carbs for breakfast in the winter. I usually eat smoothies in the summer months, then come winter I chow down on bagels, pancakes, oatmeal, toast, and other warm options. I’m good about balancing my other meals though!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
I would say I eat a lot of fruits and whole grains because they’re my favorite and I find that they’re the easiest to prepare. I need to step up my protein and dairy intake, so I’m working on that! I also find that I eat a lot more veggies during the warmer months and that I have more of a struggle to get them in during the colder months. Smoothies and salads are always a lot more appealing in the summer months!
Heather @ Girlyeverafter says
I probably have 3 bottles of unopened contact lense cleaner bc I’ve thought I was going to run out. But I’m the same way with shampoo. I’ll go through bags of “samples” I keep to avoid buying a full bottle. haha
Erica says
i think i eat mostly out of the dairy food group….but i should eat a lot more from the veggies group. i really fall short in that department! (shame on me!)
i like to stock up on necessities when there are sales at sephora! lol.
i also tend to go crazy at costco and we’ll have kleenex to last us a year ;p
Jodi says
I probably eat the most from dairy :-( . It’s my weakness!
I am exactly like you: my makeup starts dwindling then I start freakin’. And I actually just went 3 days using my husband’s shampoo. Ha!
Tina @ Faith Fitness Fun says
I run out of all things for a few days before I ever even get the chance to replace them. And, yes, running out of face wash and having to use soap is the WORST!
Emmarie @ Bananas and Beer says
No you’re right with the makeup thing. I’ve always found that once the silver starts to show, the makeup doesnt stay in tact anymore, and bigger pieces start to break away. Just noticed the silver in my blush. It’s time.
Lauren @ Chocolate, Cheese and Wine says
I definitely do the same thing with makeup and it’s actually funny – in July, I began to see the bottom of my Nars Laguna, so I went out to buy more (from Sephora) and I still haven’t opened the new container.
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
I do the same thing with make-up and face products. I must have 2 – 3 back-up bottles of facewash and moisturizer as well as 2 – 3 extra compacts. I just forget if I have something and then buy it when it’s on sale. It’s the only stuff I seem to hoard!
marci says
I am the same way with replacing makeup/lotions – but i HATE buying deoderant (which is really gross) there are defintely times where i come into work smelling like old spice because i forgot to replace my almost empty deoderant. Thank god for boyfriends ;)
Claire says
I would like to think I eat the most from the HEALTHY carbs list (oats, sweet potatoes, natural sugars, rice). Next up would be protein, which actually may be a close tie with dairy (greek yogurt is my only dairy source routinely. Occasionally I do cheese, but not so much on a routine basis). I think protein may tie with fibrous sources like legumes, nuts and veggies. Fruit is a rarity only because I cannot keep it fresh and it’s just a tad too sweet for me. If I want the sweets, I tend to just go all out…which is not the best, but what can yah do ;-)
Brittany @ GOtheXtraMile says
I used to eat the most dairy. Like literally allll day long. But it’s been killing my stomach lately so not anymore =/ I definitely eat a lot of fruit when I have them available and whole grains.
Lauren says
So funny because I spent hours on pininterest last night looking for Christmas decoration ideas. I think it’s the new house that has me wanting to decorate so soon. :)
Shannon says
I eat more dairy (I only drink milk, really), meats, and grains. It wouldn’t hurt to add a little more fruit & veggies to my diet too- I do eat them sometimes but not all of the time.
My mom does with tissues- I see four unopened boxes across from me.
Tara Burner says
my teen LOVES Sephora and I know she buys things waaaaaaaaaay ahead of when she actually runs out!
Shayla @ The Good Life says
Haha, love this! I don’t really do it with makeup, I actually do it with food! I get antsy the minute I’m low on my favorite foods and have to restock instantly! Many times I’ve come close to the expiration date b/c of this OCD in me ;)
Doesn’t it feel like the Xmas spirit is super early this season? And b/c of your morning post I’ve been browsing for gifts all day long! ;)
Btw, I am so making your Pumpkin Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars for my Xmas Eve party – and now I think the majority of the desserts I’m making for that night will be your recipes, lol!
Courtney says
YAY! It’ll be a Sweet Tooth Christmas! ;)
I suppose if I can’t be there in real life, I can still certainly be there in spirit!
Shayla @ The Good Life says
It definitely will be! And you’ll definitely be there in spirit ;) I’ll be sure to take lots of pics too to recap it all when the day comes! :)
Courtney says
Excellent! :)
Hope says
I am the same way with makeup. I love browsing Ulta. I would love to buy so many things if cost was no object!
A lot of what I eat are fruits and vegetables. I really need to start eating more protein. I think if I upped my protein intake, it would keep me fuller longer and I would stop snacking as much.
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
Are you on Pinterest? Lots of good Christmas ideas there!
Courtney says
I’m actually not…
I had been trying to hold off BUT…I reeeeeally want to get on. I think I need an invite though, right?
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake says
I just sent you one! :-)
Catherine says
Hey! Just curious if you liked the greek yogurt dip that you had for lunch?? I’ve been seeing it around and was considering trying it out!
Courtney says
Yes!I love it! I’m actually going to be posting a bit more about it (hopefully) tomorrow.
Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy says
I was just thinking about Christmas presents earlier today. I need to start brainstorming..otherwise I know I’ll be crunched for time!
Khushboo says
I’m taking an almost exact lunch to work but a slice of bread instead of popcorn. Cereal, Greek yogurt, fruit and raw veg are my go-tos on lazy lunch-packing days. I actually prefer spreading lunch out: it’s like a nonstop eating fest although my colleagues must think I’m such a pig :)
Annette @ Cookie Crumbs & Carrot Sticks says
I think we panic because perhaps (shock horror) they won’t stock it anymore! I’m the same. I have a favourite Laura Mercier lipstick that I can’t get here anymore as its discontinued in the UK. I wore it on my wedding day and I just love it but oddly enough you can still get it in the US so I order it from there. I have one one the go and one in ‘storage’! As soon as the last is opened I’ll order another one or the house will not feel safe :)
I am Christmas shopping tomorrow and I saw the first tree up this morning on my way to work – now THAT is early! Happy Friday!
Becky @ Fit Chick on the Fly says
I’m the total opposite. I wait until the very last minute until I need something from Sephora. Your way is more efficient trust me…I’m not a happy camper when I realize I have no face makeup left and I’m trying to get ready…..not cool :)
Crystal Coppel says
I do the samething as you do with makeup!! I would rather have it sitting in my makeup drawer waiting for me to use it then run out and be screwed in the morning with out my essential beuty product!! Not a good way to start off in the morning!! Plus isn’t it better to have and not need than to need and not have?? :))
