Thank goodness that today is off to a better start than yesterday. Somehow, my morning usually seems to set the tone for what the rest of my day is going to be like and, well, let’s just say that yesterday was a day. Hey, we can’t win ‘em all, right?
Today, however, is already going much, much smoother, starting with an early morning BodyPump class. Unlike yesterday, I was definitely feelin’ this morning’s workout and I have a feeling I’m going to have some sore muscles tomorrow; I just wish the instructor would start using the latest release again…this old one is, well, old.
I was actually pretty surprised today though, at just how small the BodyPump class was. Typically, the 5:45am class is packed, but by the end of class today (since there’s still people who leave early) there were only three of us left. That’s practically unheard of! The instructor blamed it on the fact that the weather is getting colder (hello, brisk 39 degrees this morning) and more people want to stay inside curled up in their beds. Yes, I’d love to curl back up in my warm bed right about now!
But as silly as that might seem, I totally believe it. Even though I (usually) still somehow manage to get it done, getting up and out the door when the temperatures drop is definitely more of a challenge than it is, say, in the spring and summer months. That chill is brutal! But hey, it’s a commitment I’ve made for myself and I’m stickin’ to it.
Breakfast
Folks, I think we have a new record here on STSL; this week may just be the longest running repeat breakfast streak ever. I’m shocked (but not really) that I, once again, craved my eggs + pumpkin gingerbread combo.
I was too hungry to think of a ketchup face today, so you get polka dots.
And today’s punkin’ bread got another nice smear of cinnamon raisin PB. I savored every last bite of it since I knew that it will no longer be here for me tomorrow morning…
Yup, that’s right. I have made it down to the very last slice.
Half of it got nibbled on this morning, and the other half was cubed up and put into another helping of this yogurt mess.
It only took me four days to polish off that bread all by myself. I’m impressed.
Now it’s time to go finish putting the rest of today’s eats together and off to work I go. Stay tuned this afternoon for a fun little giveaway!
Questions for the Morning:
Does the weather effect your workouts at all?
How many days can you repeat a meal before getting sick of it?
When the monsoon season was going on over the summer in MUmbai, it was SO rough getting out of bed and walking to the gym! I don’t mean to gloat but I sucked it up the whole season and didn’t skip a workout once just because of the weather…polish my halo right there :)
It is harder to get out of bed when it’s cold and rainy out like today. I barely rolled out of bed only to sit on the couch to check the weather and doze off again.
I don’t get sick of foods that quickly if I like em. When I make a good recipe that I love, I loove having leftovers.
Oh yes, the chilly weather always makes me feel a little lazier and want to just stay in my sweats and curled up under a blanket. But like you said, exercising is something I’m committed to, so I still get it done – it’s just a little more challenging!
I can repeat the same breakfasts for days. I used to have peanut butter and banana on wheat toast almost every single morning in college. I decided to make my mornings a little more interesting these days by switching it up, but I could still go with that combo every morning if I wanted to. As for other meals, I like to switch things up a bit.
Oh the chilly mornings get us all! I have been one of those people curled under my warm sheets! :D
Your bfast combo is making me crave eggs!
Yes! The weather definitely makes me feel sluggish and makes me want to skip my workouts. Luckily, I have a treadmill at home so I can at least work out at home if I’m feeling suuuuper lazy.
I am so jealous of breakfast ruts. I eat breakfast daily, but it’s always a “what will I have today?” conundrum. My partner, on the other hand, has had basically the identical breakfast since I met him, and quite happily so. My breakfast today was wild and delicious – egg white omelette with turkey, tomatoes and pickles. It was a language barrier issue that turned out sweet!
The weather in CO can change 180 in a day, so I always try to stay prepared and work with what I have. If there is no way that I’m getting out the door, there’s Zumba, P90X, or weights that I can do at home. If I REALLY don’t want to do anything, I make it my rest day and move on. Also, I could probably survive eating the same meals every single day. I would be bored to death because I love new foods, but I don’t usually mind.
I have eaten oatmeal or uncle sam’s every day for 25 years. (I’m 28) so, I’d say that’s a streak.
WOW – that’s impressive
I hope today is a better day for you! :)
I can probably eat the same thing dinner wise for 3 days max and then I will get sick of it. I usually eat the same thing for breakfast almost everyday.
Thanks, Hope :)
I appreciate that you keep eating that bread- I *WILL* be making it this weekend, don’t let me forget! Keep eating it!
You MUST – it’s awesome!
I can repeat a meal SO many times and never get sick of it! and cinnamon raisin swirl pb is my all time favorite SO good..the weather can impact my workout..especially if its cold and rainy and all I want to do is lay in bed:)
Hi Courtney! I am planning to make this bread this weekend but I know my husband wont touch it. how did you store yours to keep it fresh? also, how many slices did you cut yours into? thanks, love your blog!
Hi Diana! I simply stored my bread in a gallon ziploc bag. And I’d say that I probably got somewhere between 12-15 slices. Hope that helps!
I can usually do breakfast 3 days (ish) in a row without getting sick of it, however dinner is different, i never really have the same thing on consecutive days!
The weather tends to affect how I feel…but I try to push ahead anyway. I can only eat a meal 2-3 times before I have to change something up.
Yes, me too. The winter months really do a number on me!
It is definitely more difficult to work out in the winter! Leaving your house in the freezing cold weather is never fun!
You’re a brave girl to go outside in 39 degree weather. That’s stay-in-bed weather for sure!!!
The weather definately affects me, I don’t really like doing much on a gloomy day like today. I get kinda Lazy and want to just lounge around.
It depends on the meal, if we are talking about my Mom’s eggplant parm I could eat it for a week or two straight. I normally need some variety daily variety when it comes to food.
The weather really only effects my outdoor workouts (runs) but then I just take it inside! Last winter in -30 degrees I even pulled out of bed for 5:30am workouts! Doesn’t really bother me!
I seriously ate PB toast for breakfast every day for 6-8 years in high school and college and into university! So awhile ;)
It’s so so hard for me to want to get out of bed once it starts getting frigid outside. It’s dark, cold and usually snowy or rainy. My bed just seems like such a better option. But, fitting into my jeans is a good option, too :)
Hahaha, agreed!
I can go for about five or six days of eating the same thing before getting sick of it. I’m a big fan of leftovers.
My workout routine definitely follows weather patterns. I run and swim in the warmer months, but now that it’s cooler out, I’m defintely wanting to get to a yoga class. Craving it!
I’m impressed that the loaf lasted that long! I would’ve polished it off in (maybe) two days…Tops!
I tend to get in breakfast ruts too… but never eggs. I love eggs but never have time to make them in the morning. After looking at your eggs all week I know what is for breakfast this weekend!
The weather does not really bother me in the winter when going to workout… its the lack of sunlight.
The weather totally effects my workouts. It dictates whether I go to the gym or run outside, and sometimes it’s so cold (well, for southern california standards haha) that I just want to bundle up and stay home!
i eat a variation of the same breakfast every day… but i can’t eat the same lunch or dinner for very long.
The weather definitely affects my workouts- like when it is cloudy, I feel more lazy and will usually do indoor exercise. If it’s pretty outside, I am more energetic and get outdoors for a walk or bike ride. I live in Ca now, but when I lived in colder places, I rarely did outdoor exercise.
3 days tops and then I’m sick of a meal and want to change it up. Unless it’s an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, then I’d do that 5 or 6 days out of the week. Nummy!
Getting out of bed on a cold morning is really hard. Luckily, my “gym” is in my garage, so I don’t have to go outside to get there.
I was on an oatmeal tear for about 6 months until one day I couldn’t stand looking at another bowl. That’s the longest streak I’ve ever had and it was a good run.
I feel like I want to curl up and sleep more during the colder months too – even though I don’t do it, I still want to!
1. I hardly work out at all. It’s somewhat of a once in a while Wii Fit yoga.
2. I can go for a couple of days w/ a peanut butter sandwich for lunch. Other times, I can eat things for a while. It really depends on the food.
That bread looks delicious. I fin d the weather affects my desire to workout a lot. I usually get up at 5 am but come the cold winter months when I need to clean the snow off the car before leaving I would rather stay in my bed. I’m glad I’m not the only one getting up early to hit the gym!
I love how to decorate your eggs every morning. so cute :)
weather has totally been affecting me this week. Probably our new mattress pad too…it’s soooo comfy that I don’t want to wake up in the morning!
Ugh, sadly the weather has affected my workouts already. I’ve taken an extra rest day each week for a while now. Especially when it’s raining–as soon as I hear a car drive by and you can hear that wet ground sound….It’s pretty much set that I am staying cuddled up warm in my bed!
I would love to try the Strawberry Mango Pineapple smoothie.. sounds fantastic!!
My current fav smoothie combo is banana and mixed berries :)
I love me some leftovers…usually the food is better after it sits and it also saves on time and money for the days after :) Depends on what it is, but I can usually eat the same meal for about 3 days.
