I actually really love writing out these posts every now and then, especially since my day can vary so much from one to the next. And after hearing your feedback before, you guys like ‘em, too. Sooo, here’s another day in the life post for ya from this week!
5:15am – Alarm goes off. Hit snooze. Why I continue to set my alarm for this early when I KNOW I’m not going to get up is beyond me.
5:24am – Alarm goes off again. I actually get up this time, which is rare. I’m usually at least a two-snoozer. Throw on workout clothes that were laid out the night before, hit up the bathroom, put in my eyeballs (aka, contacts), grab my computer, and head down to the basement.
5:30am – Workout time. I was in the mood for some weights today so I wound up doing my T25 Gamma Pyramid workout. I actually feel pretty good during it and have more energy than I anticipated. Sweet deal. Oh, and I’m feeling that workout still today, FYI.
6:00am – Chug some water and grab a small handful of Cheerios out of Lucas’s snack container that was out on the kitchen counter. Cheerios are definitely stale…whoops. Hop in the shower.
6:15am – Brush teeth, put on makeup, blow dry hair, and all that jazz.
6:50am – Head into the bedroom to pick out an outfit and iron my clothes (something I should do at night but usually never feel like doing). Check the monitor and see Lucas is still snoozing away. Lucky dog.
7:00am – Curl hair and get dressed while Jay gets Lucas up and ready for the morning.
I’m actually ready a few minutes earlier than usual this morning so I have some extra time to play around with Lucas, which is so nice!
7:25am – Take the crockpot pot out of the fridge to turn on for the day. Jay and I prepped what we needed to the night before, so it was ready to just throw on which was awesome.
7:40am – Ummm, where the heck did the time go?! Quickly pack up Lucas’s backpack and lunch bag, grab my lunch bag and purse, we say goodbye to daddy and Lucas and I are out the door and on the way to the babysitter.
7:50am – Drive past Starbucks and notice that their drive-thru line only has one car. AND I didn’t take the time to make coffee at home…quick pit stop is necessary.
8:00am – Drop the little man off at the babysitter. It always sucks dropping him off in the morning but on this particular day he immediately wanted out of my arms and went to go play so that helps the mommy guilt.
8:10am Arrive at work. I’m freakin’ famished since I never took the time to grab another snack after my morning workout (I’ll typically try to grab something before heading out the door). I’m barely sitting down in my chair before I break open my bran muffin and start chugging my coffee.
Bakery muffins were BOGO again at Price Chopper on Saturday…gets me every. time.
8:15am – Work, work, work.
10:30am – Start to get hungry…snack time! I grab a banana out of my lunch bag and also snack on some NatureBox mighty mix snack mix while working through some emails.
11:30am – Leave work to go quickly meet up with my friend Christina. She has an old Halloween costume of her son’s that should be able to work perfect for Lucas so I grab that from her and we chat for a few.
I debate on hitting up Bed, Bath, and Beyond quick to pick up a couple of things but decide I better not, since I know there’s no way I’d get in and out of there on time. Head back to work instead.
12:30 – Lunch time! Back on the salad wagon this week after taking a couple of weeks off and it tastes delicious.
While eating lunch I also wind up getting completely sucked in to the Fabletics website. I’m sure most of you guys have heard of this site before, right? OMG. I’m kinda, sorta, totally in love with all three of these outfits…
Especially that Astoria Shrug on the left. MUST have that thing.
3:30pm – Work day is over! Time to go pick up Lucas from the babysitter. I realize my stomach is growling by the time I get in the car so I grab a Larabar out of my bag and snack on that.
FYI: The chocolate chip cookie dough one is amaaaazing.
3:40pm – Pick up Lucas, find out about his day. Discover that he woke up a bit early from his morning nap so he’ll probably be ready for a second one by the time we get home.
4:05pm – Arrive home. Lucas is definitely tired so I put him down for a little snooze, making sure to watch the clock so I don’t let him sleep past 5pm (otherwise, bedtime is all out of whack).
4:10pm – Lucas goes down no problem so I take advantage of the alone time to catch up on some personal emails and blog work. Jay gets home shortly after so we chat a bit about our days and starts prepping the Cheesy Italian Quick Bread for dinner.
5:05pm – Whoops, almost lost track of time. I quickly change into my cozies then go and turn off Lucas’s sound machine to let him wake up a bit. He awakes almost immediately so we chat (aka, I chat) for a few in his crib before getting him up and changing his diaper. No poop. Score!
5:25pm – Little man is obviously hungry. Despite my best attempts to have us all eat dinner together, once again, ours still isn’t ready so I go ahead and feed him his dinner. I can’t totally remember, but I’m pretty sure he had turkey meatballs, string cheese, peas and carrots, and a yogurt pouch. Boy was huuuungry.
6:00pm – Lucas is just finishing up his dinner and ours is ready. Typical. Jay and I sit down to a couple of big bowls of Burgundy Beef Stew and big hunks of bread with hopes that Lucas will be able to keep himself occupied while we eat.
Riiiiiiight.
My buddy loves me so much he just can’t bear to be separated from me long enough to let me eat solo. Either that or he’s just still always hungry and wants my food, too. Stinker. Cutie, but a stinker.
6:20ish – We finish up dinner (we have to eat rather quickly over here) and Jay handles the dishes since Lucas isn’t really a fan of not having my undivided attention these days. I’ll tell ya…thank goodness for a husband who can step up and help. Otherwise we would have absolutely nothing accomplished over here.
6:30pm – Play time! On this particular evening, Lucas was thoroughly enjoying one of his new Halloween books. Particularly, the ghost who says “booo!”
7:15pm – We start to get Lucas ready for bed. It’s a bit later than usual but since he napped later his usual bedtime of 7-7:15pm is pushed back a bit. It’s not a bath night (we do every other) so I bring him in to get on his jammies and Jay gets his bottle ready (yes, we still do a bottle at night time…who knows when we’ll nix that). I give him his bottle, we read some stories, and I put him down in his crib.
7:30pm – Chat with Jay for a bit on the couch until I realize I still have more work to do on the computer. Rather than hole up in the office, I bring my laptop out into the living room so we can at least still enjoy each other’s company.
8:30pm – I finally call it quits with the computer. I need some time to just chill. I’m also craving a little something sweet (despite the fact that my stomach has felt like garbage ever since the afternoon…I blame the bran muffin) so I grab the last of my crockpot applesauce and some honey Teddy Grahams because I freakin’ love those things.
I “bought them for Lucas” but we all know who I really bought them for.
8:45pm – Finally relax for a bit and watch some football with Jay. We talk a little bit about places we might like to go to celebrate our five year wedding anniversary coming up in January (seriously, already 5 years?!). We’ve been talking about going to Mexico again, but I just don’t think it’ll happen. So we’ve also thrown out some ideas including the Florida Keys, Louisiana, or Texas. Anyone have any recommendations?? We’d be going solo (err, duo? Aka, no Lucas).
9:30pm – I’m tired so I decide to just get ready for bed. I first check to make sure all lunches and everything else is packed for the next day (they are, thanks to my prep on Sunday).
10:00pm – In BED.
Happy Wednesday, guys and gals! Hope you’re all having a great week so far!
smart to get the crockpot ready the night before – my mornings are always so rushed with a million things to do!
Isn’t it crazy how every day changes despite doing the same things? I would definitely head south for the anniversary since you’ll be in the middle of New York winter and we all know that’s rough! I heard Florida Keys are beautiful though I’ve never been there. I’m sure wherever you go will be amazing just the two of you.
You are so productive!
I have a 15mo and still feel like i don’t have my act together.
I press snooze and sleep too, trying to get better! I’ve been dropping the little guy off around 9, getting home at almost 6 which makes for a long day for me. It’s a process!
I’ve got to try that stew!
Definitely go someplace warm! We’re all going to FL in Feb, I cannot wait! Have you ever been to New Orleans? That’s on my list of places to go, looks like it’d be a fun couple trip.
No, we haven’t been to New Orleans and it’s definitely somewhere we’re considering!! Would love to be able to visit just once :)
The Keys are so awesome! We were there this past February, great weather everyday, so beautiful, lots to do, or just chill by the water. We stayed at Hilton Key Largo, which was pretty good, even though they did mix up our reservation at first.
Busy day! I love how the one car in line at Starbucks was a sign that coffee must be ordered. At least, I would take it that way too.
Hmm vacation places in January…where if you want something warm then I definitely recommend Florida. St. Petersburg is normally really nice that time of year.
Love these posts – major props on how much you accomplish each day, especially with an adorable and active little guy!
We just got back from a four day weekend in Marco Island, FL – had a great time! It was a bit expensive (in terms of restaurant options, etc), so its good for a splurge. We’ve been to Key West a few times and LOVE it – I’ve done it for New Years Eve with my family, and the weather is normally great for some sun (high 70s, low 80s). Agree with Stacie above as well on St. Petersburg – used to visit my grandparents there in the winter a lot as well.
Oooo! Marco Island, FL would be a great vacation location! When my boyfriend and I stayed in Pompano Beach, FL for a week back in 2008, we decided to head out on a road trip one day and ended up driving across the state to Marco Island. It’s absolutely beautiful there – and I can see how it would be a bit expensive to stay there. We only stayed for an hour or so as we had to head back east, but it was definitely nice to visit.
Marco Island is my favorite place on earth. My parents live there for 9 months out of the year – but previously we had been spring break’ing there for my entire life. If you need any recs about it, feel free to email me anniecrock@gmail.com.
I am now QUITE intrigued by Marco Island. Thanks everyone! Definitely going to be researching this a bit more!!
I love reading these posts from you – thanks for writing them!
I did complete crock pot prep last night too and I am just about to go turn it on. It really makes dinner so much easier and I love walking in from work and having the house smell amazing!
I’m from Texas and if you want a nice non beach vacation, I say San Antonio would be a fabulous destination. It’s an awesome city with so much to do. I’m also a big fan of New Orleans and all the culture it has to offer. Of course, the beach in Florida is always nice, too!!
By the way, I’m totally making that stew next week. It looks amazing!!
come come come to OAKLAND and visit meeeee.
My mom has also been trying to get me to get some Fabletics stuff too – I’m not sure why I haven’t taken the plunge!
PS – pretty sure I haven’t left you a comment in mooooooooooonths. ;)
Sounds like a lovely day with lots of time to see your little man. :)
An 8:00 am to 3:30 pm workday…sign me up for that please!
Whew….I’m tired just reading about your day. It’s been a long time since my kids were little. Heck – so long that I’m a grandma! I was fortunate enough to not work when mine were little and I’m so impressed and respectful of working moms, including my daughter. You gals are going non-stop, and doing it so well, you make it almost look easy. Speaking of making things look easy – that stew look aaahmazing! Looking forward to that recipe!
I set my alarm clock for a time I know I will not wake up too! I consider this every morning and then do it again! I love these day in the life posts. Thanks for sharing! That is my favorite flavor Larabar too. :-)
TEXAS!! I’ve lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area my whole life (college included) and I still find fun things to do that I’ve never thought of before! You can’t go wrong with Austin either… It’s such a fun place and it’s guaranteed to be at least a little warmer than ya’ll in January! Plus if you come at the right time you could catch the Stock Show and Rodeo which is a BLAST!!
Don’t worry about the bottle! My daughter is almost 19 months and still has a “goodnight bottle”. Her pediatrician didn’t seem fazed by it, either.
Plus, my brother-in-law told me something that made me feel loads better.
I was asking my sister about when and how she weaned her kids off the final bottle and she couldn’t remember. I was concerned about Harlow being “so old” and still on the bottle.
My brother-in-law chimed in out of the blue and said:
“Well, you know how you hear about all the problems kids who have bottles when they are two and even three years old have?”
And I said, panicked, “No! What kind of problems?”
“Well, the physical and emotional ones…” he said.
“NO!” I said, really panicked now…
He said, “Yeah, me either. She’ll be fine.”
Hahaha. That’s awesome.
I used to be afraid my 15mo would go away to boy scout camp with his swaddleme, but that’s already worked itself out too :) Why must we worry about everything!
I LOVE this. So perfect, SO true!
LOVE love this!!!! My pediatrician (well, not our true one who just retired and we had a stand-in who I did NOT like), was pretty annoyed that Julian is still on the bottle (he’s 18 months old). She said he must be off it by 2 years old and I was pretty upset afterwards about it, but after talking to others and reading this I really wonder if it’s that big of a deal?? I’ve decided to just not worry about it and follow his lead…and I have to admit I love our 5 min of snuggle time…I think he enjoys it too ;)
And like Lucas, Julian just has the bottle at bedtime…so just once a day. Courtney – has your pediatrician made a big deal about it??
Shaylaaaaaa! :)
We actually haven’t brought it up to his pediatrician, haha. Since I haven’t viewed it as a big deal, I haven’t thought to mention it and he hasn’t asked. He takes a cup fine and doesn’t ask for a bottle any other time of day so for now, I’m just going to continue letting him enjoy it because it’s the only time he’ll snuggle with me. ;)
Day in the Life post for me too…great minds think alike! ;)
I love these posts! Lucas is so, so adorable. I know I say this on pretty much every post with pictures of him but it’s true.
I highly recommend Key West! I’ve been a few times and there’s a lot of fun stuff to do but also plenty of opportunity for relaxation! And it will be warm too…always a plus! :)
I can’t believe you curl your hair before work! I barely have time to run a blow dryer on it quickly. I probably look so disheveled when I get to the office!
I went to the Florida Keys for my birthday a few years ago and it was so nice! We had a strange stretch of cold weather (60s) but apparently that is really rare and usually its nice and warm. I’ve also been to Puerto Rico recently, which is a short flight from the East Coast and really really nice!
Oh trust me, it’s not an everyday thing! I’d say more than half the time my hair is half wet and thrown back in a messy bun ;)
I love these posts! My favorite line– “no poop. Score!!” lol
My husband, Kevin, and I just got back from a week long stay in the keys. We stayed on Duck Key at Hawks Kay. It was so lovely and relaxing. Nice resort, great fitness center, very clean, gorgeous views and tons of activities. We rented a 2 bedroom villa ( 2 bed 2 bath, full kitchen, 3 balconies, living, dining, and laundry room in our villa). So relaxing and nice distance between islamorada, marathon, and a quick drive to key west! Plus there is a publix grocery store 10 min from the resort and prices are normal and not inflated. We ate half our meals in and the other half out. Feel free to email me for more details and things to do. We rented a boat and went fishing for the day (Captain Pips) by ourselves. So fun!!! Fresh fish for dinner!!
Thanks so much for all the tips/info, Amelia! Sounds like it was a fab trip!
Have you thought about going to Arizona? There are a lot of spa-like places there that still allow for fin activities like hiking, etc. Also, there’s a great shopping area around Scottsdale and the weather is nice!
We hadn’t really thought about it for this trip, but it’s definitely somewhere we want to visit in the future!!
San Antonio! Tons to do and beautiful! It was just ranked the best in Texas to travel to – https://www.texashighways.com/txtop40
It totally looks like Lucas is judging you for the car selfie. Haha
Bahaha, he probably is ;)
Go to Key West! Great food, great drinks, beautiful sunsets! It’s so fun down there!
Yes, I love these posts! That’s exciting that your 5-year anniversary is coming up. I’ve been on some lovely trips with my husband – and Peaks Island, Maine was a good one. We were actually engaged there. However, you can’t go wrong with Key West or Savannah or even St. Augustine for some Southern relaxing. Have a great Wednesday:)
gee you are a busy gal! So early and running around all over the place! I love your dinner- so my kind of meal! ooo go to Alaska!!
I love Fabletics; the clothes are so cute, comfortable and affordable! On a completely different note, your quick bread is so good! My husband and I are huge fans.
Good to know! Thanks, Brynn!!
The best picture from this whole post is the one of you and Lucas in the car… he is like, “Mom, why are you taking a picture of yourself?” ;)
LOL I think you’re totally right ;)
I’ve really been wanting to make that Crock Pot applesauce ever since you posted it the other day! You mentioning it today reminded me of it again… Mmmm.
And yup, totally guilty of eating Hunter’s snacks too. Haha.
You know how much I love Fabletics! Quality, cute, unique – you can’t beat it!
Wait. People are supposed to iron their clothes? Oops. Didn’t get that memo… ;)
Ok, totally random…but I spy your Evenflo carseat for Lucas! If you don’t mind sharing, what brand of the evenflo do you have and do you like it? I’m on the hunt for a new carseat for my almost-9-month-old, as he’s quickly outgrowing his current one. ;-) Anywho, the hubby just mentioned he saw a good deal for an evenflo carseat so I’m very curious to see how others liked it. Already check the reviews and they were really good – 4 out of 5 stars! :-)
P.S. That larabar (Yum – must try!) and your fabletics choices look Amazing! Lol.
I’m pretty sure it’s this one that we have: http://www.target.com/p/evenflo-sureride-dlx-65-convertible-carseat/-/A-15291399#prodSlot=medium_1_6&term=evenflo
We did a lot of research and it had great reviews like you said. I’d recommend it!
Ha, this looks like the exact one we were looking at! :-) Good to know the reviews were correct & it works well! Thanks so much for sharing!
OK, can I just say after reading this I should NOT be whining about getting out of bed to be at work by 9 every day. You are getting it DONE girl :)
Bahaha, thanks Alexa! ;)
I LOVE the Keys and I think that would be a great anniversary trip! Not as cheap as I’d like it to be, but still a nice trip.
I know when i have a kid someday I will definitely be buying “them” goldfish and eating them all myself haha. Love these type of posts! Lucas is adorable as always. I don’t comment as often but I’m always still reading :)
Heyyyyy Chelcie! Good to see youuuuuu! ;) xo
I just made crock pot applesauce a couple weeks ago. Most of it is frozen for the little one but I do have some tucked away for oatmeal! I have spent a lot of time looking at fabletics but I haven’t bought anything yet. I am picky about how workout bottoms fit and I am nervous to buy them online. I might just do it though. They have some cute stuff and really good prices!
I love reading your daily recaps! My hubby and I are expecting this spring, so it’s nice to see how my days are going to change. eek! Oh and I just tried that Larabar flavor last weekend and am hooked….so good!
RIGHT?! It’s sooooo delish!!
I wish I could get as much as you done before 6am! That’s when I’m trying to pry myself out of bed! haha
I enjoy these posts too. We gget up and go to bed around similar times! Looks like mornings is the time where you prep for the rest if the day and you workout. Same here. What were you cooking in the crockpot, I wonder?
Our dinner ;)
I vote Louisiana, especially in January! I live in New Orleans, and it’s, in my opinion, one of the most amazing cities in the country. We have awesome music, food, culture, and the weather is usually perfect in December/January. It’s chilly, but not terribly cold, unless we get one of those freaky and abnormal cold fronts like last year. Plus, we know how to party down here. ;) Everything is a celebration!
Busy ass day!! The stew looks yum!
Love these day in the life posts!! Sunday prep definitely makes for much smoother sailing during the week. Less lunches to pack. The extra time in the kitchen on Sunday is so worth it!
I totally agree! Now I just need to tell myself to do it regularly…it’s so hit or miss!
Hi!!!! Totally in a non creepy way but I was wondering what you do for work??
Thankyouuuuuu!! <3
Sounds like you definitely stay productive! And it’s cute that Lucas always wants mommy’s attention. These posts are always interesting to read!
Haha, I’d say it’s cute about 85% of the time…the rest of it is kinda like, alright already! Mama needs to get stuff done! ;)
I love these day in the life posts. This one must have taken you a while to write! ;)
My husband and I went to Charleston this past summer and LOVED it!! If you haven’t been, I would recommend it!
Me and the hubs went to the Florida Keys in August and loved it. Key West is very touristy, if you don’t mind driving down from Miami, check out Marathon or Islamorada to stay. If you do want to stay in Key West, we stayed at the Parrot Key resort and it was soooo nice. Not within walking distance to downtown key west but a $10-15 cab ride.
Thanks for the tips, Kelsey! We’re definitely looking into that!
The video of Lucas giggling is pulling at my heart strings! So adorable. What a fun age. I really love the “day in the life” type of posts, and have been meaning to do one again for so long. I think my last one was in 2009 or something. Nuts.
Awww I love watching mommy+baby play! One of the best feelings in the world, especially when they react with such delight. :D And wowww you do a good job at being in bed by 10! I tihnk I’d struggle with that even if I worked full time.
Haha, thanks Ellie! :)
New Orleans is on my bucket list so I vote Louisiana :-)
Courtney, can you repost or post what your Sunday prep looks like?
Hey Melissa! I’ve never really done a post b/c honestly, my “Sunday prep” changes from week to week. I don’t really have any sort of process in place…BUT, if I ever wind up getting myself organized enough, I’ll certainly do so! ;)
Sounds good – thanks!! Happy Friday
I love these type post and I love my crockpot too! Especially now that we have an almost 6 month old:) Have you ever been to Charleston, SC? It’s beautiful, great food, and night life. Definitely stay downtown if you go
No, I don’t think I have been there but I’ve heard wonderful things!
