Happy Fashion Friday, friends! Today, I have a guest post for you from the lovely Amy. She recently scored some great deals at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, so we both thought it would be fun to share with you all on Fashion Friday…maybe you’ll even get some inspiration for your next day of shopping?
The Anniversary Sale officially hits stores on July 15th, unless you’re a cardholder, and in that case, go check it out now!

Hi Everyone! I’m Amy and I blog at My Life as a Lazy Girl. I’m new to the blogging world and I blog about my life and living the lazy yet successful way! I’m so excited to be doing a guest post for Courtney, she’s one of my fav bloggers! And her cupcake recipes are AMAZING, but I’m sure you already know that!
One of my favorite pastimes is shopping. Some would say I have a problem, but I consider it a strength. I equate it with the high after a good workout, which I’m sure you all can relate to. When I’m shopping and I find a great deal or an item that’s a must have and difficult to find, it makes my whole day better.
My favorite store, hands down, is Nordstrom. Their customer service is unparalleled in the retail industry. Every year around the beginning to mid July Nordstrom has their Anniversary Sale. They offer merchandise from their Fall collections at really good prices, and they even offer pre-sale for Nordstrom credit card holders.
When going to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, you should really do some research. I checked out the catalog online to get an idea of what would be available. (I’m a grad student on a budget, so I had to limit my purchases.) I knew going in that there was a lot I wanted to check out…
So now on to the good stuff, what I actually bought! We started in the accessory section and that’s definitely where I did the most damage!
Michael Kors Wallet, the perfect gift for my BFF. It retailed for $130 and I got it for $85. Quite a steal!
Michael Kors Sunglasses. I couldn’t resist the fun blue color, especially since I have a lot of other accessories in that color. They retail for around $85 and I got them for $56.
Marc by Marc Jacobs Rose Gold Watch (my favorite purchase of the day). It retails for $275 and I got it for $185.
Rose Gold Colored Hoop Earrings, to go along with the watch. Normally $32, on sale for $20.
My next stop was the t.b.d. section and the designer jeans. They didn’t have any Citizens that I wanted, but the awesome sales girl, Tara, convinced me to try on Joes Jeans.
I’m very loyal to my Citizens but OMG Joes were amazing! They only had one pair on the sale so of course I snatch them up. These black skinny jeans are super comfortable and fit GREAT (especially if you have a ‘lil junk in the truck like me!). The Joes Jeans were normally $179 and I got them for $99. Such a steal!
Next up was workout clothes…
Nike Dry-Fit Shirt in black, normally $35, on sale for $23.
Nike Running Shorts, normally $28, on sale for $20.
Zella Capris, normally $44, on sale for $29.
I have fallen in love with the Zella brand. They’re super comfortable and thick, without being hot.
Zella Headband (my last purchase), normally $12, on sale for $8. I’m always looking for new workout headbands that don’t give me a headache and I’m looking forward to trying this one out. It has silicon on the inside to help hold it in place and it’s made out of a very breathable fabric.
If you’re near a Nordstrom definitely go check out their Anniversary Sale when it hits stores July 15. If you have a Nordstrom Credit Card, go pre-sale NOW! It’s totally worth it and I’m super happy with all my purchases!
Hope you all enjoyed my guest post! Feel free to stop by and check out my blog anytime! And a big thanks to Courtney for letting me guest post today!
Questions for the Afternoon (from Courtney):
What are some of your favorite department stores to shop at?
Do you tend to spend more money when you think you’re getting a better deal (at a sale like the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale)?
Lee @ in the pink of condition says
I love Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s! I do tend to spend more when there’s a sale like this, UNLESS I bring a list! I usually write a list of things that I am allowed to buy if I find a sweet deal, and that way I can avoid impulse buys. Great post!
Amy @ My Life as a Lazy Girl says
Thanks! I totally had a list when I went in, and bought way more than I planned on, but I love it all! I’m trying to work on the whole impulse buying then, maybe one day ;)
Shari @ Chicago Cuisine Critique says
Great picks! You got so many cute things, and great deals. I’m looking for a new watch – either MJacobs or MKors. I love both of their styles in gold. I may have to go check this out. :)
Amy @ My Life as a Lazy Girl says
They had soooo many marc by marc jacobs and michael kors watches. They were all so cute, but I’ve really been loving rose gold right now, and the marc one just fit my wrist better (I have the smallest wrists, I had to take 5 links out). You should def go check it out :)
Katelyn @ Chef Katelyn says
I spend sooo much money when I know there’s a sale. It’s kind of a problem for my college student pocket. Love Nordstroms!
Amy @ My Life as a Lazy Girl says
I totally understand the college budget, I’m in grad school right now, but I’m done in August, so since the end is near and potential real world job money is on the way, it’s really hard to stop shopping. I only let myself shop in Nordstrom during the sale, it really helps me cut back.
Colleen says
I love that watch!! I’ve been meaning to hit up Nordstrom to check out the Zella line. I’ve heard great things about it!
Amy @ My Life as a Lazy Girl says
Thanks, I think that watch is like my new baby ;) I had never heard of zella and the sales woman pointed me to it and they were all raving about it so I went for it. I’ve been wearing the capris for two days straight they’re amazing!
Serena says
NORDSTROMS! by far… love that you can return just about anything even like 2 years later
Jordan @ food, sweat, and beers says
Ah, the most amazing part about the Nordstrom sale (other than everything) was that I really felt as though I was catered to yesterday at my appointment. They brought everything I requested to my room, in my size or one size near it (when I wasn’t sure), brought me a diet soda, and let me just enjoy trying things on in peace.
Oh, yes, I dropped many dollars (maybe more than last month’s rent) but got more than enough stuff to feel like it was absolutely worth every penny!
Erin @ The Grass Skirt says
I can’t wait to read more of Amy’s blog. I’m a shopper myself. ;) My favorite department store is Nordstrom. In fact, I just got back from there! And I agree about Joe’s jeans. They are the most comfortable, flattering jeans that I’ve ever had.
Amy @ My Life as a Lazy Girl says
Thanks! and I’m totally in love with Joe’s Jeans now, I tried on a pair that weren’t on sale and they fit so well and the fabric was amazing. I’m waiting to get a Nordstrom note before I go back and get them.
Lindsay@ In Sweetness and In Health says
Nordstrom is by far one of my favs! I also like Von Maur and Macys. I prefer to spend money when I’m getting a deal because it makes me feel better about doing it haha

LOVE Nordstroms and their anniversary sale! I always get Coach shoes during the sale!

Loved this post, literally just marked the Nordstrom sale on my calendar…I am so there!! I LOVE Nordstrom’s and Bloomingdale’s for dept stores!
Loved the MJ watch…I have a Michael Kors rose gold watch that I wear alllll the time
Emily says
I love Nordstrom’s, I wish that we had one around here :) however, they’re a bit pricy for me, so its probably good that we don’t have one, haha. I actually like Macy’s because I can get awesome deals there usually on designer brands.
Shayla @ The Good Life says
I definitely tend to spend more when a sale is going on….and most of the time I have to take a step back and think about whether or not I really want these items and not just buy them because they’re a good deal, you know?
My fav dept. stores are Nordstrom and Macy’s, although my true fav (non dept. store) right now is Express…great sales and cute clothes for work and play!
Honey @ Honey, What's Cooking says
First, remember a while ago I asked you about that “glow” on your face and you mentioned to me it was the Nars Bronzer. Well, I mentioned you today on Friday’s Favorite Things on my blog – http://www.honeywhatscooking.com/2011/07/fridays-favorite-things-7811.html :-) Your gorgeous!!!
Second, thanks for the tip on Nordstrom, I loveeeeeeee Nordstrom, especially their shoes. I’ll be checking out the sale, hopefully it’s online too. :-)
Danielle Spellman(The Urban Squirrel) says
I LOVE that watch!! Deciding between a Marc Jacobs or Michael Kors watch right now :) I also just picked up those same Nike shorts at Marshalls for $15. I’m definitely going to check out this sale though..even though I went crazy on Victorias Secret online sale last night lol

I LOVE sales. I love Nordstrom and Macy’s . I definitley spend more when there is a sale.. it just makes more sense. :) I never buy anything full priced..
Kristen @ notsodomesticated says
Cool post!! :) The department store I probably shop the most at is Macy’s. I love Nordstroms, Neiman Marcus, etc… but they are usually a little too expensive for me. I’ll only shop there if I’m looking for designer jeans (because I think they are worth the money, since you wear them so often!) or for a special occasion dress.
And I am NOT the person who will spend more money because I think I’ve found a good deal. One of my good friends is like that, though. She’ll buy a coat for $200 because it’s on sale from $350… but she didn’t really need it in the first place! ;) But that’s just me… to each, their own!
Kristine @ Runningon Hungry says
I checked out the pre-sale yesterday! My mom offered to get me the pair of flat boots and a cashmere sweater I really liked on the condition that they’re put away for my birthday in November. I’m really tempted to go back for the workout clothes!
I have Zella long leggings for winter outdoor runs and I love them!
I’m a really budget savvy shopper, but for items I know I’ll wear forever (like cashmere, or leather boots – in SF you can wear them quite a bit!) I’ll allow myself to splurge if I’m getting a good deal. :-)
