We had a really nice Mother’s Day over here this year! Complete with this incredible little gift I was greeted with on Saturday morning after Jay and Lucas headed out for a little while.
Chocolate covered strawberries? Yes, PLEASE!
Since the actual Mother’s Day holiday for us is usually spent with both of our moms, I like to try and snag a few hours to myself on Saturday to be able to do…well…whatever I want. ; )
So shortly after noon on Saturday, I headed out for a solo afternoon of errands and shopping. My first trip was to the apple store to try and figure out why my phone hasn’t been backing up since I upgraded. Whether or not the issue is really resolved, I have no idea, but thankfully I’ve at least been able to back up my phone again.
After finishing at the apple store, I walked around the mall for a bit and picked up a few items, including some tanks, a new dress for a wedding we have this coming weekend, and a couple pairs of jeans (which I actually think I’m going to return now, ha!).
Once I was finished up at the mall, I drove up the road to At Home. I’d been wanting to check out their outdoor décor and to see what kind of faux flowers they had, and I was so pumped to see that they delivered on both accounts.
The pillows will be for our outdoor furniture to go on the new deck once it’s finished(!!!) and the flowers are for a couple of galvanized vases that I purchased (but still need to hang on the wall). So once they get hung up, I promise I’ll share!
After my trip to At Home, I stopped quick at Target to pick up diapers, went to a local nursery to pick up some hanging plants for Mother’s Day, and finished up my time out by stopping to grab a pizza for dinner on my way home. I wound up being out longer than I expected (a little over 5 hours) but it was ev-reeee-thinggggg.
We all spent the evening together, and once the boys were in bed, I sat with Jay while he got to work on making our Mother’s Day brunch menu.
This guy, I’ll tell ya. He does good in the kitchen. <3
One of my favorite brunch spreads, which has been going strong for quite a few years now!!
Details on the French toast and eggs can be found in THIS post, but I’m going to hopefully be revamping that soon!
Oh, and of course, mimosas. Duh.
Yummmmm.
I also got spoiled with a beautiful handmade gift from Lucas and a couple of gift cards to some of my favorite places. Looks like I’ll be booking a massage in my near future!
Oh, and when it comes to Mother’s Day traditions, apparently Lucas also decided to carry on the tradition of being a total handful on Mother’s Day. Whether it was a mix of a wayyy too early wakeup call (5:30am…which, thankfully, Jay got up for and let me sleeeeep), him being sick and/or being on antibiotics, or just being three (GAHHHH), he was giving us a serious run for our money. So much so that I put him down for a nap by 11:45am (which neverrrrrrr happens) and he slept for almost 2.5 hours. Even though he really didn’t wake up much better, at least we knew that he was able to catch up a bit on sleep and we were able to relax for a few minutes.
Whew. They may drive me crazy sometimes, and leave me exhausted, but mannnnn, they’re still the coolest.
Once both kiddos were up from their naps, we got ready and headed over to my parents’ house for dinner.
I didn’t wind up taking many pictures there, apparently, after looking through my phone?! But we had a delicious spread of chicken, steak, twice baked potatoes, and corn on the cob…plus homemade desserts! Chocolate pie + carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.
The carrot cake was amaaaaaazing, and lucky me has about half of the cake sitting in my fridge right now as leftovers that I got to bring home – WOO HOO!
Overall, it was a really nice weekend and, once again, I was reminded of just how lucky I am to have these two little hams that call me mom. <3
I hope all of YOU had a great weekend, whether you were celebrating the holiday or not. And if you haven’t already, be sure to check out Sunday’s post and leave a comment over there to tell me about a deserving mom in your life. We’re looking for someone to ‘pamper’ quite nicely! ; )

Nothing like a few hours alone, especially shopping! I absolutely love chocolate covered strawberries and would think I won the lottery if that bouquet came to my house – yum! Ha!

Alone time is the best time. Sometimes I fantasize about dropping my daughter off at daycare and taking off work to just…be alone. But only for a few hours….then I want all the baby time I can get. haha :)

Would you be willing to share that carrot cake recipe? I have tried quite a few recipes and they just aren’t “quite” right. The carrot cake you posted looks perfect. Thanks so much and Happy Belated Mother’s Day.

It’s funny how running errands alone becomes a treat, but it is so true :) Sounds like a wonderful Mother’s Day!

We celebrated our anniversary on Saturday night at a hotel in Dallas, so I woke up on Mother’s Day without my kids. It was so nice to sleep in, have coffee by the hotel pool, then go to brunch with just my husband. Once we got home, I took the kids to the pool for the afternoon. It was a great, relaxing day. They also gave me gifts, homemade cards and lots of hugs.

It looks like it was a beautiful Mother’s Day! That looks like it must have been an Edible Arrangement! I’m such a big fan of them and have gotten several in the past years for my birthday and the fruit is always so fresh and sweet!

The best time is spent alone. I occasionally daydream about leaving my daughter at daycare and taking time off work to…just…be alone. I want as much time with the baby as I can get, but only for a few hours.
