Tailgating & Football at West Point

By Courtney 8 Comments

Today was a beautiful day…for a football game! And lucky for us, that’s exactly what was on our agenda. :)

Jay and I were out the door before 7am (yes, on a Saturday, I know…) to meet up with Joe and Kate so we could head down to West Point for the Army vs. Temple game. It was my first time being down to West Point, and I must say I was totally impressed with the field and the campus.

It feels weird calling it a “campus” since it actually seemed more like a village. They had everything there! A golf course, their own ski lift, a grocery store, gas station…it was crazy!

Before actually heading into the stadium, we took part in my absolute favorite part about going to football games:

TAILGATING! :-D

The four of us were actually meeting up with some people that Joe works with, so they came quite prepared, as you can see! However, since we weren’t really sure what was going to be there, I made up a couple sandwiches last night for us to bring down. My sandwich was some roasted chicken, lettuce, tomato, & 1/2 a wedge of The Laughing Cow Light Sun-Dried Tomato & Basil Mozzarella, all on a potato roll. I <3 potato rolls. :-P

I paired it up with some pasta & macaroni salads that were already there. YUM!

A couple “his & hers” beverages were enjoyed. ;)

Eventually, after filling our bellies with goodies, it was time to head into the stadium.

They started off the game with a demonstration from the Army Parachute Team, which was honestly, totally impressive! They started off from wayyyy up there…

To alllll the way down at center field. I was amazed at how accurate they were!

At half-time, our crew traveled back up the the parking lot to continue a little more tailgating.

The “pro” to this was that I got to enjoy some of the most amazing veggie chips ever!

IMG_5264

I picked them up from the bulk bins at The Fresh Market last night, and I’ll I’ll say is…I will be back for more. :)

The “con” to going back for tailgating was that we had to tackle this set of stairs:

TWICE.

I definitely got some exercise in today!

Today was lots of fun, but I am beat. Time to go try to find something for dinner and just relax for the evening…probably with a couple of these guys too. ;)

Hope you’re all having a great day!

Question for the Night:

Do you ever account for “non-traditional exercise” (such as walking massive amounts of stairs at a football stadium!) as workouts? Or do you only count typical cardio, strength training, etc…?

I usually only count typical cardio/strength training that I do at the gym, etc. Any other type of non-traditional exercise I consider extra! Looks like you had a wonderful day, enjoy your evening! :-)

I usually dont count those other forms of exercise unless I'm going to spend a whole day walking/sightseeing. Then I think it counts :) A few summers ago my mom and I window shopped our way through Manhattan and by our later calculations we walked a good 6 miles. That definitely counts!

I usually don't "count it," but I definitely feel better when I'm more active, especially on non-workout days :)
