We are back from vacation! After a fabulous few days down at the beach, we’re now back here in NY and settling back into reality once again. Ohh, it’s so tough to leave the beach! But we all had a great time, and I especially loved the extra time with family. Especially this guy.
He is just the best. Sure, he makes me want to pull my hair out sometimes (like when he gives me that incredibly adorable smirk when doing something he knows he shouldn’t be), but man, he is just the light of my life and I don’t know what I’d do without him.
Emotional mom day here, obviously.
So now we’re over here working on getting our lives organized once again and settling back into a routine. After about a week off from exercise, I’m definitely looking forward to jumping back into that, and oh man do we need to get grocery shopping. The food situation over here is looking pretty sad. Thank goodness we had a frozen pizza in the freezer to cook up last night.
But one reason I need to get to the store is to make sure I grab all of the ingredients so I can make my absolute favorite 4th of July cookie cake.
It is seriously delicious. So I’m telling you, if there is ONE thing you make for this holiday weekend, definitely make it be this. You won’t regret it.
And in case you need some other snack ideas, check out this old post for some of my favorites. Guac, cookies, salads…so much good stuff in one place!
I’m also looking to make a batch of sangria this weekend because it’s been forever since I’ve had it and I could definitely go for some. Oddly enough, I actually like red sangria better than white (which I say is odd because I always prefer white wine to red), so I’m on the hunt for a good red sangria recipe. If you’ve got any, send ‘em my way! Although I may wind up having to give Kristen’s recipe a try, because hers never steer me wrong.
How good does that stuff look?
Alright, it’s time to get back to getting my life in order and getting unpacked and all that jazz. I’ll catch you guys tomorrow!
Oooh I need to make that Sangria soon!
i just found a recipe for a cake with donuts in it and is decorated as an American flag. Definitely giving that one a whirl! Do you think if I put fruit on the cake it all balances out? Haha
Hahahaha I think I saw that cake on Pinterest! It had donut holes right? It looked sooooo good lol :)
I’m definitely more of a red sangria fan too but also more of a red wine fan than white!
The cookie cake looks great, but I’m really eyeing that sangria. Yum! I’ll be making a patriotic trifle. (I’m trifle-crazy.)
I make fruit pizzas for the 4th every year! They are my absolute favorite for this holiday.
I actually like red sangria much better than white too. Although I’m more of a white wine gal. I feel you on that one. And YES, this cookie cake thing looks amazing. :) Enjoy settling back in, Courtney!
mmm sangria. so good! enjoy your 4th wknd. i’m headed up to the lake and to see Dave at SPAC on Saturday night — haven’t done that since college days!
That cake looks AMAZING. I am planning to make my red white and blue gluten free Krispy treats, but maybe I should come up with a GF twist and go for the whole cake…
Oh, that cake! I need to make a GF variation on that – was planning to do RW&B cookies but might as well go all the way for something that delicious. I haven’t had cookie cake since my pre-GF days…
It’s always nice to get re-organized and into a routine after a vacation. It feels like a fresh start!
Great sangria recipe (white, though – sorry). 2
2 parts white wine
1 part green tea (chilled)
lime juice to taste
garnish with melon slices
Delicious and not the sugar-bomb most sangria recipes can be. Have a great 4th!
Yellow tail has a pre-made red sangria that is actually pretty tasty for a cheap wine! I doctored up a bottle last summer with fruit and fresca for some fizz…it was yummy!
