How’s everyone’s week going so far? Did you guys have a great weekend?
Our weekend started off unexpectedly, after I wound up having a bit of an incident with a deer on my way home from picking up the boys from daycare on Friday.
Fortunately (VERY fortunately) the boys are fine. I’m fine. The deer literally ran out of nowhere from behind a car traveling the opposite way and I could do nothing but just barely break before hitting him dead on. I’ve replayed the whole scenario in my head a hundred times with all sorts of what-ifs (what if the deer jumped and hit our windshield, what if there was a car behind us…) and all I can do is be thankful that we all ended up okay.
The police arrived within just a few minutes of my call, and Jay arrived shortly after that to bring us home after the tow truck arrived. Lucas was quite excited to have a “real police officer” coming to help us, who was very nice, although he did get quite upset once he saw the “boo boo” my car got. There were all sorts of tears after that.
And, I feel ya, buddy. Because, unfortunately, my car is not fine.
$5000+ in damage later, and the car is totaled. So we’re currently on the lookout for something new. We’ve actually been considering getting a new car for me for well over a year now, but were hoping to wait until Lucas starts kindergarten in the fall (AHH, can’t talk about it) so we’d be saving a little extra money on daycare. But hey, sometimes plans change, so car shopping it is!
I’m looking into a few different SUV’s, so if you happen to have one you love and/or know how to score an awesome deal on one, I’m ALL ears. : )
Despite our rough start on Friday evening, the rest of our weekend went just fine. We laid low, mostly because I’m all #germophobemode right now and afraid to go anywhere with the boys. But we made the most of it by having fun inside and playing out in the snow a bit, too.
I also had Jay help me by hanging one of the pieces I got while down at Magnolia Market last month.
Here’s the before wall (those sticky hooks have been on that wall for over 2 years…yikes)…
And here’s the after!
(Notice the patched up wall, thanks to the paint peeling off from those darn hooks…)
I got the arch and the galvanized jugs from Magnolia Market, and I found the wreath at At Home. It’s simple, but I love it. <3
We also didn’t do much of anything for the Super Bowl either, but Jay did make some killerrrrr quesadillas and homemade guacamole for dinner that night, so it was a win.
How about you guys? Do anything fun for the Super Bowl? What’s happening this week??

Glad everyone is ok! I love my Honda Pilot from Rensselaer Honda :)

Whoa, how scary! I’m so glad everyone is OK! Sorry to hear about the car! :(

I love my Subaru Forester, from Goldstein. It’s not huge, so if you’re looking for something with a lot of space it wouldn’t work, but price wise it was the best (and we looked at ALOT) of SUV’s). And weather wise, it’s been amazing.
So scary, but I’m glad you were all okay!
Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona says
How scary! I’m glad you are all alright.
Buying a car is always a lot of work, even when it’s expected. I hope you’re able to make a decision soon. I think I spent a week looking when I bought my car 2 or 3 years ago.
I didn’t watch the Super Bowl, but I did watch the episode of This Is Us that aired after it.

so glad everyone was ok!
i bought a used Ford Edge 2 years ago and love it! I have two kids also 7 and 9 and it’s plenty of space for us, with a great back to throw all sports equipment or instruments. also all wheel drive which was big with all the snow we get in Pennsylvania. Good Luck, i am not a fan of car shopping.

Yikes! Glad you are all okay. I have a Chevy Traverse. I drove a minivan for years and my kids are older now and I wanted to graduate to a SUV. It has captains chairs in second row which is nice so you don’t have to climb over anyone or a seat if you need to get in the third row. I do notice that there is less room in the trunk area than a minivan but I can put down part or all of the third row to make extra space. I don’t know what you drove before and how the stroller situation worked for you but worth considering the Traverse.

So sorry to hear about your accident. Glad everyone was alright. I love my 2016 Honda Pilot. I had a 2006 Pilot before that for nine years and loved it too. The new Pilot gets much better gas mileage and can haul our family of 4, including two teenagers, with ease. Good luck on the car search.

So glad you’re all okay! How scary.
We are planning to replace my husband’s car within the next couple of years, and we’ve been looking at the Mazda CX-5 and CX-3 or the Nissan Rogue. We have always had Hondas previously, but even a used one is pretty expensive, and the Mazdas and Nissans are a lot nicer than they used to be.
Then last weekend my husband drove a Toyota mini-van for work… and LOVED IT. I have always said I would NEVER have a mini-van, but he is in love. *facepalm*

I’d so glad you are all okay! I’ve always been so scared to hit a deer—for many reasons. The magnolia items are adorbs and that quesadilla looks bomb.

I totaled my car on a deer a few years ago. It was 3AM and my now-hubby and I with our cat were driving back to college and they literally come out of nowhere. It was terrifying!! I’m glad you and your babies are ok! I know how scary that is!

I absolutely love my pilot! It has already come in handy when we have taken kids on play dates and needed the 3rd row. And my husband has no complaints about his crv either.

I hit one years ago. It ran out from the opposite side right in my blind spot. It tried to jump over my car and went right against the windshield. I just remember closing my eyes after the whole windshield went black-that thing was huge! LUCKILY the windshield shattered but thank god the deer did not come thru. it is really scary, im glad you are all ok! I cried and called my parents who were luckily 1 mile up the road lol. My poor dad didn’t even tie his shoes before rushing over.

All I can think about is Gilmore Girls when Rory got hit by a deer. Glad you’re all ok!

Glas everyone is ok! I have a Toyota Highlander and love it, but, in retrospect, I wish I would have bought a minivan. They’re just so practical and more affordable!

I’m so glad everything was OK!

Ummm…how is the deer?

He survived. No idea how it’s doing…

I am so glad that you and the boys are ok! That must have been so scary. Your new decorations are really nice.

Sorry about the accident. I love love love my Acura MDX. I have three boys (4.5, 3, and 15 months old) and they all fit comfortably across the middle row.

So glad everyone is okay! Costco sells select cars at special member prices, if you’re not already set on a car type! I love my Rav4.
Kayla says
Oh goodness! How scary that must have been hitting a deer, especially when having the boys in the car! I am so glad you are all okay!! We didn’t do anything too exciting for the super bowl.. just watched the game in our jammies at home! Perfect super bowl Sunday in my book ;) Xoxo
Jessica says
Okay…. its DEFINITELY time for the universe to give you a break. <3 Super glad everyone is okay!
Courtney says
Haha, thanks Jessica. I was thinking the same thing! ;)

So glad y’all are ok! I’ve hit a deer before and it was so scary (its head came through my sunroof 😳)
I LOVE my Toyota 4Runner!! It has a 3rd row if needed and it is perfect for our family of 4!! You really can’t go wrong with a Toyota or even a Honda they last forever!

Yikes! Glad everyone is ok. I love my Subaru Forrester. It’s not the most sophisticated-looking vehicle, but I love how it handles the snow and it just feels very durable. We found the best price at Goldstein, like Caitlin. Recently rode in a friend’s Honda minivan and it was pretty awesome — I would definitely consider that if I were shopping again. Good luck!
Diana says
Oh man – glad everyone is ok!! I have a Ford Edge that I love – lots of room, all wheel drive, decent gas mileage.
Also – you may want to reach out to your insurance company about replacing your car seats for free – or reimbursement for the cost of getting new ones. The damage to the car is sufficient enough to warrant a replacement.
Courtney says
Yes!! We’ve already reached out about the car seats and will be replacing them :)

So this may sound a little crazy but I just bought a 2018 Honda Odyssey as we’re expecting twins in a few weeks and I LOVE IT. I never thought I’d be a true life suburban soccer mom with a minivan, but this is the nicest car that I’ve ever owned. We made the choice to go with the van over the Pilot since there’s so much more cargo space when the third row is up. The entire car can fit 8 passengers but the middle row has this ‘magic sliding seat’ technology so you can remove the middle seat, creating two bucket seats and a pathway for someone to walk to the third row. We got the 2nd tier version which comes with a ton of awesome technology features like Apple Carplay and some drive assist features (the steering wheel will vibrate if you drift out of a lane on a highway or maintain a specific car length away from a car in front of you when using autopilot) and I can’t get over what a pleasure it is to drive. Additionally, we found it more affordable for the new 2018 version than for some of the pre-owned Pilots. May be worth a look!

So glad you guys are ok! Yikes! I remember in high school my brother did a deer and I remember being so amazing by how much damage it did to the car! It’s crazy! And those quesadillas look SO good!! We too are on the hunt for a new car so I’m curious to see what you guys pick out!

Glad you all are ok! I went from a 1999 Saturn SC1 to a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder. And….I LOVE it! It’s all wheel drive, with the ability to lock it into 4 wheel drive. Honestly though, living in Ohio, and the crazy winter weather we are having, I have never felt safer. I have started to slide on icy roads and it immediately corrects itself before I realize what is happening. Good luck with the car search!

Hitting a deer is one of my biggest fears right now and there is no question that my car would end up totaled if I did hit one. I’m glad you guys are all ok. I love how you redecorated too.
