Good morning and happy weekend! How’s everyone doing this morning?
Jay and I spent our evening last night hanging out with my parents, enjoying a couple beverages and just having a good time. We were also preparing lists and making sure we have everything we need for our big trip tomorrow. (Does anyone remember where we’re headed? I only mentioned it verrrrry briefly about a week ago. Hehehe.)
Breakfast
I woke up super hungry this morning, so rather than dilly dally around, I got right to work on getting breakfast ready.
I toasted up two Van’s Lite waffles and topped them with some PB2, banana slices, cinnamon, a drizzle of light syrup, and a few crumbles of Banana Raisin Pumpkin bread. Looks pretty awesome, right?
Unfortunately, they looked a little better than they tasted. Well, one of them at least. I’ve had the same box of waffles in my freezer for a while now. Case in point: the last time I blogged about them was on June 2nd; and the box was open well before that. So let’s just say that one of my waffles ended up being so badly freezer burned that I probably could have used it as a hockey puck. Total bummer.
But hey, it wasn’t’ a total loss…I still had some great coffee and ONE good waffle to enjoy while sitting and watching some TV this morning.
*****
Later today, me and Jay are meeting up with our friends Sarah & Jeff and Brian & Mal for a fun afternoon out at Oktobeerfest!
The event is said to be full of a bunch of different breweries, along with live music, food, contests, and games. (You can check out the website here.) I’m sure it’ll be a fun time, especially with the group I’ll be with!
If any locals are heading up that way today, feel free to come and say hi!
Now hopefully before it’s time for us to leave, I’ll be able to bake the batch of cookies I need to bake, squeeze in a quick workout, shower, and get ready to go. Any bets on if I get it all accomplished?
Questions for the Morning:
Have you ever been to a festival like Oktobeerfest?
Would you rather attend a beer tasting or a wine tasting?
Gina @ Running to the Kitchen says
Have fun! I’ve never been to an Oktobeerfest or anything like that before. I think I’d enjoy a wine tasting event more. I like beer, I’m just not crazy about it enough to enjoy a million different samples.
Shana says
I have no doubt you’ll get it all done since an afternoon of delicious beers will be the reward. That sounds like an awesome day. Have fun!
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
That’s a bummer about your waffle! At least you made them look pretty… ;)
I’d rather go to a wine tasting. I’m not much of a beer lover. I’ve never been to one, but I’m sure beer fests/tastings are way fun though. Enjoy!
Khushboo says
Gah guess my theory works vice versa too: pretty food doesn’t taste too great! Have a great day:)

I grew up in a TINY German community and Oktoberfest was a big event every year. It’s one of my favorite memories growing up. Germanfest was another event in the Spring but that one was far less “family-friendly”. Still, great German food & drink, polka music, dancing, laughts, rides; events….ahhh, such fun.
Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me says
We go to a brewfest every year. It’s a ton of fun and dover 90 different breweries. We always leave totally sloshed.
Brittany @ Itty Bits of Balance says
I am not a beer lover (I know, I know :( ) so I have never been to anything like Octobeerfest. However, I feel like Will would LOVE an event like that! Maybe I should surprise him 8)
Shannon says
Your breakfast looks great! I love Vans light waffles! I wish they were sold where I live!
That has totally happened to me before. Such a bummer!
Mallory @ It's Only Life says
That sounds like so much fun & a perfect way to kick off fall! have a great time!
Hope says
I love Van’s waffles! They are delicious. I’m sorry they were freezer burned. At least they looked pretty! :)
I love going to Beer and Wine Tastings equally. Although I don’t think I’ve been to a beer tasting yet! I should get on that. Have fun!
Ruthie Hart says
I wish I liked beer for the sole purpose of going to beer festivals!!! I will drink one once in a blue moon. And I am not a big wine person either so that throws out the whole wine tasting possibility! It’s awful but all I drink is hard alcohol hahaha!!
Emma @ Microcosm of Life says
I’m such a fan of Van’s Lite waffles (just bought 2 boxes!) but I have had the same freezer burn experience. It was sad. That topping combo looks phenomenal, though..you’ll just have to try it again with fresh waffles! Oh, darn ;)

A few years ago I went to the Polish festival they hold in Tempe annually. It was pretty neat, though I’d love to go to Oktoberfest. I’d much rather go to a wine tasting. I haven’t been able to find a beer I enjoy, yet, and so a beer tasting would involve me trying to keep everything down (for some reason, beer and my stomach are NOT friends). I’d love to go to a wine tasting, though, that seems like it would be pretty awesome!
Sierra @ Posh Meets Pavement says
I went to a beer and pizza tasting last month and it was really fun, but typically I prefer wine tastings. We live in a big wine region, so wine tastings and winemaker’s dinners are quite common.
This morning we did a wine tasting trail run! Unlikely combo, but really fun!
Jess @ Jess Go Bananas says
gah! I hate freezer burn – especially on ice cream! :(
Lindsey says
Looks like fun! I wouldn’t mind going to as beer tasting as my husband loves different and new beers. but I do not drink beer…yet ;)
I only recently started drinking more wine but think a wine tasting would be fun too!
Lindsay@ In Sweetness and In Health says
I bet that beer fest will be super cool! Have so much fun!! My blog has an entirely new look now…but since I’m now self-hosted I’m not showing up in google reader for some reason.
Shayla @ The Good Life says
Definitely a wine tasting – preferably sparkling wine!! ;)
Have fun! Sounds like a blast :)
Lindsay @ biking before bed says
I am definitely a wine type of girl. I am going to a wine festival next weekend. I hope u get to drink out of a boot like in beer fest.
chelsey @ clean eating chelsey says
Gaaah I love beer, but unfortunately my GF self can only have like 3 varieties. ;( So I’d go for a wine tasting.
Brandy @ Let's Grab a Coffee says
I love wine tasting. I’m in northern PA, do you ever go to the Finger Lakes?? Seneca has the best wineries! :)
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
I went to Blue Point Brewery’s CASK ALE FESTIVAL! Soooooo fun!!! :)
Would totally rather go wine tasting though!
Melissa says
That stinks that your waffle wasn’t good, but you are right it did look fantastic! Time to buy more!
I think one of the main differences besides alcoholic beverage choice, between a beer fest or wine tasting is the kind of atmosphere you are looking for! They are both fun in their own ways! Have a great time…. I might still pick wine though!
Lizzie says
ive never been to a festival beefore but it looks so fun! i hope you hav a good time!!
Jess@atasteofconfidence says
I’d rather do beer, I think. I like wine, but I’m a beer girl at heart:)
Kait @ One Love Run says
Since wine tasting is one of my very favorite hobbies, I think I would switch it up a bit and say beer tasting this time!
Emily @ Perfection Isn't Happy says
I think I’d rather go to a beer festival…I like it more than I do wine.

J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS!!

YESSSS!!! :-D
Alanna says
Haha I have totally done the exact same thing with the waffles. One was so bad that when I tried to stab it with my fork not only did I have to make several attempts at it…but when i finally got through it broke the waffle instead of stabbed it.
Your day sounds wonderful and all…but I have to know…did you choose a winner for the tank top/sports bra giveaway on your Facebook page?? …I just want that sports bra so bad!! (I checked Facebook but there was no apparent update on this situation? I hope I’m not missing something….yep just double checked, I think I’m still seeing correctly)
Must be all the beer at Oktobeerfest, making you forget things ;) I’ll forgive you this time
Sabine says
Hi Courtney,
I’ve been to the original Oktoberfest in Munich once, when we went there to visit a friend of mine.
It is a really big event with lots of tents (where they sell beer :) ) and things to ride (like roller coasters … I don’t know all the words in english). For me, it was interesting and impressing, but too big. Too many people, too much going on.
Your Oktobeerfest ( I already read your next post) looks very charming, though :).
Courtney says
Oh wow, that must have been quite an experience!
Katie @ Plates and Paste says
Wine tasting! I’m not a beer girl :(
