Time for another bumpdate!
Much to my disbelief, baby is just over 33 weeks today and is about the size of a pineapple.
And I will say I made a conscious effort to not wear a black shirt this time, because I feel like I’ve worn black in almost all of my updates with this pregnancy?!
Oh, and just for fun, here’s a little comparison from 33 weeks with Lucas!
HERE’S WHAT BABY HAS BEEN UP TO THIS WEEK:
- Baby weighs a little over 4 pounds and has passed the 17-inch mark.
- He’s rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and his skeleton is hardening.
- The bones in his skull aren’t fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for him to fit through the birth canal. These bones don’t entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as his brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood.
AND HERE’S WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING WITH ME THIS PAST WEEK:
Weight gained: I always write these posts out a day or two before my appointments, so I’m not sure! I think at my last appointment I had gained around 25 pounds, which was a couple pounds more than I had been with Lucas at this point. I blame the donuts.
Workouts: Things are starting to slow down a bit, my friends. I’ve sort of given up on early morning workouts in favor of sleep, which I need more of these days. I’ve done a few workouts in the evenings and on lunch hours (typically only 20-25 mins long), and it’s still a mix of barre and strength training at this point.
Symptoms:
- Very sore/uncomfortable in the groin/pelvic region. I remember having some slight discomfort with Lucas, but this bothers me every day and gets increasingly more uncomfortable as the days go on
- Braxton Hicks contractions on and off
- Shortness of breath
- Occasional heartburn if I forget my medicine
- Very tired legs
Movement: All day, every day! <3
Food Aversions: Not too many that I can think of??
Food Cravings: Nothing out of the ordinary; donuts, lemonade, mayo, cereal, salads…I think I’m sort of boring in this department!
Sleep: Not terrible, but also not too easy getting comfortable. I’m more than ready to be able to start sleeping on my stomach and back again!
Stretch marks? Nada, still just the veins.
Miss Anything? All of the usuals; being able to complete a regular workout without feeling winded/totally out of shape, sleeping on my stomach, regular clothes, and wine and beer (now that it’s getting warmer).
Fun and/or Interesting Things from the Week: I’m so lame – I feel like I haven’t had anything good to put for this question in like, the past three updates?!
Belly Button in or out? Popping out a bit now!
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or moody most of the time: Happy! These past two weeks have been SO much better on the emotional train wreck front. Lucas has been a lot more intrigued by the baby, which I think in turn helps me with the feelings of guilt I’d been experiencing. As nervous as I am about life with two kids, the excitement has been overtaking the nerves a bit more lately, which has been a pleasant change.
New Baby Items: This is actually something I started to have a slight freak out moment about over the weekend. Because we’re having another boy, I figured there really isn’t much that we need. Clothes are set (same season and everything!), and we’ve got furniture, car seat, swing, and all that jazz. But then I started thinking maybe there are things I’m totally forgetting/missing?!? Like new bottles/nipples? Breastfeeding supplies?
I’ve already stocked up quite a bit on newborn and size 1 diapers, but I feel like there are things I’m totally forgetting. SO, moms of multiples, is there anything else I need to think about getting for baby #2?!?!?
Looking Forward To: My appointment tomorrow in hopes that I’ll be able to convince her that I need another ultrasound sometime soon so that I can see our baby boy again. <3
Question for the Moms and Moms-to-Be:
- When did you start to “really feel pregnant?”
- What did you buy for baby #2 that you didn’t already have (or needed to update) from baby #1?
Bri says
Looking good mama! We just welcomed number two and honestly, besides diapers, some sleepers and a new wrap, I really didn’t buy much of anything for this one. It def helps that our babe turned out to be another boy, so now we are really set!! Just remember: there’s always Amazon Prime ;)
Courtney says
Congrats to you, Bri! And best of luck!! Feel free to share your thoughts and insights on two kids/boys ANY time! ;)
emily says
If yOu find a way to convince your dr that you need another ultrasound please share! (Sort of kidding, sort of not….) I’m 32 weeks and dying to see my little guy again!
Courtney says
Haha, you could always say that you’re concerned he’s growing too big/not enough?? :)
Erin F says
I have 2 boys too! I used the same bottles but got new nipples. Also purchased a second sound machine! You might need new bibs (a lot of the Velcro ones lost their “stickiness”).
P.s.- I got vericose veins too with my second but they went away after birth.
Courtney says
GOOD call on the 2nd sound machine!!
And that is fabulous news to hear they went away – keeping my fingers CROSSED!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
CUTEST BUMP!!! we are throwing a “sprinkle” for one of my friends who is having her second girl…. we are requesting just the necessities… diapers, wipes, etc. :) not to say it’s not fun to have some fun items for a second baby :) :)
Kelli Rudolph says
I’m ready to have our second girl any day now! Well, she’s technically not due until next Friday, but I’m ready!! ;) We bought the essentials – diapers, wipes, creams/lotions, breastfeeding supplies, and new bottles (ours just didn’t look “clean” anymore and it bugged me, haha!
Christina says
Kelli, I’m due with girl #2 next Friday as well! :) But if she wanted to come a little early, that would be okay by me, lol. Best wishes to you!
Courtney – I bought new nipples for all of our old bottles, and new pacifiers. I read that the plastic nipples and pacifiers are made out of is different than the plastic bottles are made out of, and degrades over time, so better to buy new. Otherwise, it’s mostly the same stuff! You look fantastic!!!!
Courtney says
Awesome, thanks so much Christina!
Courtney says
So exciting, Kelli! Best of luck to youuuu!!!
Taylor says
You look great!! He will be here before you know it!
Abby L. says
I agree with Erin! Maybe bibs and burp cloths. My first was a boy and second was a girl so we had to buy quite a bit more! But we had major spit up issues-hopefully you wont- but those May be needed. You look great mama!
Courtney says
Oh man, Lucas was a HUUUUUGE spitter-upper. Keeping my fingers crossed that this little guy is a bit better ;)
Melissa says
You look great! I love that striped top. For some reason wearing stripes was my go to during pregnancy. I think I thought it camouflaged the belly some? Reading these updates actually makes me kind of miss being/want to be pregnant again, which is crazy!
He is gonna be here before you know it!
Sarah says
So close! I found I wear baby #2 way more than baby #1 and got an Ergo. Easier to chase my little man with arms free ;) Also, our first one didn’t like to be swaddled or like pacifiers, but I’m so glad we had them on hand for our girl! Also, gripe water. My first baby was easy and the second a little screamer at first and gripe water saved our evenings! Also, get some beer on hand, for your milk ;), or at least tell people that because two kids is so fun and so exhausting and you really deserve all the things now to enjoy during your small breaks! Also, find lots of grace to store up for yourself and hubby. I forgot how lack of sleep can make me crazy! ;)
Courtney says
I’ve heard from many people that they wore baby #2 much more – makes sense, gotta have those hands available for the toddler! ;)
And YES to the beer – WOOP!
Alli says
When I had my second and third babies, I found I really just needed to replace breastfeeding supplies–especially nursing tank tops! I also stocked up on diapers and wipes of course. I also replaced the nipples on the bottles (and with my third baby, she refused to take a bottle so we bought literally every bottle we could find to try!) I also found it really helpful to have a double stroller, a small single stroller, and a couple different wraps/carriers for babywearing. Also, with having a toddler and an infant, it helped to have a couple safe places to put the baby down (pack and play downstairs, crib upstairs, swing and bouncy seat in different locations), so that way I could help my older children with things. My kids are 15, 7, and 5 now and this makes me miss when they were babies!
Courtney says
Thanks so much, Alli! Time sure does fly, doesn’t it?!?
Amanda says
Getting so close! I only have one baby, but I think this thing would be incredibly helpful with two. http://www.amazon.com/Leachco-Podster-Sling-Style-Infant-Lounger/dp/B003HIXOTQ/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1461075339&sr=1-1&keywords=leachco+podster if you don’t already have one. Soooo nice to be able to move it from room to room and have a place to put the baby (as a previous commenter mentioned, that means you can have both hands for Lucas when needed!). Also loved the k’tan for the tiny newborn phase when I needed both hands and my girl wanted to be snuggled.
Courtney says
That looks awesome, thanks for sharing Amanda!
Hannah @CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
If you don’t mind sharing… what heartburn medication are you on? I am thinking about getting back on mine (even though I REALLY don’t want to), but will also likely try to get pregnant within the next year or two. I’m just curious is your doctors have said anything about what is good/not good to take while pregnant. Thanks!
Courtney says
Sure! I’m currently on lansoprazole, which is one of the only heartburn meds that is category B. With Lucas, I was actually on Nexium the entire pregnancy (my heartburn gets BAD) but I feel better about being on something that is (supposedly) safer for pregnancy this time around. Good luck!
Hannah @CleanEatingVeggieGirl says
Thanks! I was on lansoprazole for YEARS and went off of it.. but not matter what I try it seems so hard to stay off of it. So frustrating!
Jenna @Crazy Healthy Fit says
You look great, Courtney! I have officially decided that I cannot wear pants to work anymore. Something about the maternity pants and the belly band just leave me in sweats all day long. Maxi dresses and skirts it is for the next 3 months!
Courtney says
Haha maxi skirts are definitely AMAZING!!
Elle says
I’m due the day before you and just this last week I have really started to feel the pressure to get everything ready. This is my second, but our kids will be so close in age that we need two or a double of everything. Definitely feeling tje pressure to get the rest of the nursery set up, pack the hospital bag and stockpile baby things! These next 7 weeks are going to fly by!
Melinda says
I just had boy #2 and I wanted him to have some things of his own. I bought some new sleepers, new crib bedding and a few other things. I figure he is going to have so many hand me downs he needed a few new things :) I also bought new parts for my pump.
Courtney says
Yes to all of those!! I need some new sleepers too – I forgot we threw all the old ones out because the velcro lost its stickiness!
Congrats on boy #2 :)
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
Beautiful, mama! I’d say definitely once I hit the early 30’s it was like hitting a brick wall and I FOR SURE felt prego!
Jaclyn says
You are just the cutest pregnant lady!!?☺️❤️☺️
Katie @ Mom to Mom Nutrition says
Love that you are doing barre workouts too! I’m at week 28 and have slowed down on the working out here. Isn’t chasing two toddlers just as effective?! ;) What kind of workouts do you do? I use barre amped by Suzanne Bowen Fitness!
Courtney says
I’ve been doing some from Grokker and from Jessica Smith TV on YouTube! I checked out the one you mentioned – they look awesome, but bummer they’re not free! :)
