Last night on our way home from Date Night, Jay and I got to talking a little bit about running. Our friend Joey is going to be running in a 5K race on Labor Day weekend, and asked us both if we’d want to join. Well, I immediately said “SURE!” but the hubby was quick to respond with a NO WAY.
You see, the hubby does not quite enjoy running. He says he gets “bored” and wants no part of it. I’ve tried numerous times to get him to join me, but it usually ends up a failure. Hey, what can ya do?
Welllll, for starters, you can win a bet! ;) As we were listening to the radio, Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” came on the radio, but it was the remake version. Jay, feeling like he had this one in the bag, proceeded to say, “If you can tell me who sings this version of the song, then I’ll run in the 5K with you.”
MWAAAAHAHAHAHA…Little did HE know that I was well aware of the band.
After excitedly shouted “ALIEN ANT FARM!!!” (complete with arms flailing through the air and all) I thought he might have run us off the road. He had no idea I would know it. WOOOO HOOOO! Looks like it’s time to get the hubby training for a 5K! Has anyone ever tried a “Couch to 5K” program? I was thinking about looking into one for him?
This morning was a BodyPump kinda morning, but before leaving, I snacked on a small banana with a little almond butter.
BodyPump felt like such a challenge today! I don’t know what it was, but my body was workin’ it! :-D
Breakfast
My whole drive home from the gym, I had “wheatberries” on the brain, so it was pretty much a “no-brainer” on what was going to be incorporated into breakfast.
In today’s bowl:
-1/4 cup oats
-1/4 wheatberries
-1/4 cup vanilla almond milk
-1/2 cup water
-1/2 small banana, smashed
-Cinnamon & Nutmeg
-Golden Raisins
-Small handful blueberries (stirred in at the end)
Toppings for today included a drizzle (1 tbsp prepared) of PB2 (obsessed!) & some Bear Naked Fit granola. I love when the PB gets all melty. :-D
Along with my oat bowl, I enjoyed a glass of homemade iced coffee with vanilla almond milk. I contemplated stopping and picking one up on my way home from the gym, but I figured I should really try to cut back on all the extra coffee outings. It really does add up!
I’m off to the kitchen to try a new recipe with some of my Farmers Market goodies from yesterday!
Questions for the Morning:
Is your significant other more or less active than you? How do you motivate an “unmotivated” spouse?? ;)
Sam says
I did C25K when I started running. It’s an easy way to ease into it. Several people from work have also done the same thing and they’ve found it to be successful as well. Itunes has free podcasts that accompany the program too.
Megan says
Ooh he should definitely try the Couch to 5K! It’s great! Once I got my boyfriend to do spin class with me by promising him ice cream afterwards.. it did the trick but sort of defeated the purpose! He is more of a weights guy anyway and isn’t into the cardio. I am trying to cut down on coffee outings too! My homemade iced coffee with almond breeze is just as good :)
Lizzy @ LBBakes says
Way to win the bet! I’ve heard of people doing the Couch to 5K and apparently it works pretty well…
Wheat berries sound interesting – are they expensive? I might need to try them!

I am curious how you justify much of what you write on this silly website. You obviously care little about the environment, your community or human rights. You advocate eating a lot of artificial, industrially-produced garbage and driving to the gym – and you call this healthy? Old Navy? It’s great to see someone with very little education spouting a bunch of nonsense to a similarly uneducated, shallow readership.
Jen is Green says
Hahah NICE!!! Maybe he will get addicted to running. ;-) Is that going to be your first 5K?
Lauren (Healthy Delicious) says
I love that whoever left this comment didn’t leave a link. *eyeroll*
Holly at Greek Yogurt and Apple Slices says
WOW! Who leaves this kind of comment?!?! At least put a link & justify who you are.
Courtney is an AMAZING person & you have NO idea what you are talking about. Caring little about the environment?!!?!?
I DRIVE TO THE GYM TOO! & I LOVE OLD NAVY. WHO CARES!!!
Silly comments like this make me laugh!
LOVE you Courtney :D
Courtney says
Lisa,
I’m sorry that you feel so strongly against my way of living, but this is, in fact, who I am. I consider myself to be very aware of my environment and my community, so for you to pass judgment on me, or on my readers, hardly seems fair or justified. Unfortunately, not everyone has the luxury of being able to walk everywhere they would like to go, as much as I would love to. This is a very positive, supportive community, so if you don’t agree with what you see here, then please feel free to take your readership elsewhere.
peanutbutterfingers says
loved the last sentence of lisa’s comment. i’m a proud member of your “shallow” and “uneducated” readership! i just LOOOOOVE materialistic things and my college education was a bunch of boo-hockey! ;)

If you don’t like it don’t read. It’s not about being perfect, its about being yourself and being a better self. She shows this and enjoys her life.
Heather T says
Courtney attends and promotes COMMUNITY farmers markets, so how can you say that she cares little about her community? And what do human rights have to do with anything? Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but there’s no need to be rude about it. Courtney is a caring and positive person and it shows in her blogging. (Love ya Court <3)
Jaclyn says
“I am curious how you justify” spreading negativity in your silly comments. “You obviously care little about” hurting someone’s feelings. “It’s great to see someone” without manners embarrass themselves by “spouting a bunch of nonsense” to a bunch of fabulous, supportive readers who love Courtney’s blog.
Get a life.
Jay says
HAHAHA this Lisa chick cracks me up. I have a hunch that you live in the Capital Region of NY, maybe the Troy area?? Am I correct? If that is the case, I would like to know how Lisa travels around the area? Anywhere you go in the capital region, you need a vehicle to travel around, do you have your own, or do you ride in a bus or taxi? How do you travel Lisa? Any way you travel, you create pollution, or do you never leave your house, or do you walk everywhere? Do you exercises? if so, what do you wear on your feet? What kind of clothes do you wear? Do you buy them or do you make your own? Even if you make your own, you need to use electricity to run a sewing machine. The way most electricity is generated creates pollution, and you are using a computer, so what does that mean Lisa? thats right, you are contributing to the pollution. I am very interested in the way you live Lisa, so I can understand where you are coming from.
spabettie says
NICE ! :)
bb says
Lisa, why are you contributing to such a ‘shallow’ and ‘uneducated’ reader base? If you dont enjoy the fabulousness that is courtney, get off the blog and start your own – though I dont think you will find yourself with many followers with that kind of ignorant and holier-than-thou attitude. YOU need a reality check. I live in Maine and to walk anywhere would require 2 hours and often an ice pick and a shovel. Get with reality. Do what is best for YOU and stop worrying so much about others.
Heather (Where's the Beach) says
My hubby goes through spurts of being super motivated then getting burnt out (typically this is when he starts training for triathlons).
And don’t sweat negative comments by the way. You don’t say that this is a strict health and fitness blog – you say you enjoy all thing related to…including fashion and that sweet tooth. I love your honesty and your fun, fresh approach to life.
Alicia (Vegan Epicurean) says
You can’t motivate an unmotivated spouse. At least I don’t have luck motivating mine. ;-)
I agree with Heather, don’t worry about the negative comments we all get them. Some people are just unhappy and want to bring everyone else down. Don’t give it another thought.

My hubbys a personal trainer but I’m def more active.
Jennifer says
Wow I think I need to try that same thing with my husband to get him to run at least a 5k with me. What’s funny is that he’s super athletic and has easily run a few miles with me when I’ve really asked, but all those years in high school of conditioning for football put him in a burnout and he doesn’t have a desire to do consistent running. We love to go bike riding though, so maybe we should do a duathlon!
Courtney says
There ya go! Jay is more a fan of bike riding, too.
livelaughloveandrun says
I was just thinking about how I’ve saved so much money on drinking coffee in!! I’ve never done a couch to 5k, but for a half, I used Hal Higdon’s training program. I know he has one for every length at every level… check it out at http://www.halhigdon.com
Amy says
Courtney- Sam introduced me to the Couch to 5k program and all is going well! I got sidetracked at the end of week 6 and had to take some time off but i am getting back to where I was. I downloaded a couple different podcasts to find one with music I liked but the program definitely got me off the couch and running!
Courtney says
Thanks Amy, that’s good to know! Congrats on you doing the program, too! :)
TheKetchupDiaries says
Hahaha…good for you!! We are both equally active, thankfully!
erica says
My boyfriend is by far the more active one in the relationship! He tries to get me to go to the gym but I think has started to give up. He always looks so shocked and happy when I announce that I want to go to the gym…like today :)
I think you winning the bet is hilarious! I wish I couldve seen your husband’s face!
missyrayn says
I’m totally the more active one and drag Hunni to the gym because he promises me he’ll go with me.
I won a bet once for Hunni to do yoga. It was so much fun. I definitely was dancing around when I won.
Couch to 5K is great. Just don’t let him push to much in the first week thinking he’s a guy and can do it. It builds up the endurance slowly so you are better prepared.
CK says
Apparently I am a little late to the Debbie-Downer showdown. Debbie apparently didn’t have her wheat berries this day. Her entire comment cannot be backed up or justified. As for calling us “shallow” and “uneducated” readers, don’t make broad comments like that when you have no idea how educated or “deep” her readers are. I for one am well educated (degree and job specific certifications). I feel that Courtney does care for the environment and I specifically visit this site to gain healthy recipes and *hopefully* some motivation to get working out like she does.
Lisa says
Can someone explain how one can eat healthy while eating industrially produced foods?
Rosey Rebecca says
Lisa, since your so ridiculously perfect, why don’t you give us a list of what you eat, and how you work out? Then, we can pick apart every little thing that you do that we don’t agree with, because we obviously don’t have lives–like you.
Rosey Rebecca says
*you’re
:-)
Heather T says
Not everyone can afford to eat organic and non industrially processed foods. I’d love to have a garden and grow my own produce but unfortunately I don’t have a yard to do that. I’d love to shop at a local farmers market, but the truth is it’s cheaper for me to shop at the grocery store. Everyone has a different life situation and they do what they can. I eat healthy within my means and yes that means eating foods that are industrially produced.
Lisa says
Why don’t you just go outside and…run? No silly programs necessary. It’s free.
Jen is Green says
Lisa, its not always safe to run outside. I live on a busy highway with a 55MPH speedlimit with blind turns, where there are no sidewalks or streetlights. most of the time I have to run in the evening due to my busy schedule, so why would I risk my life to “go outside and run”? for some people that is not an option, so a driving to a gym or a park with trails is the only way they can exercise.
Rosey Rebecca says
Why don’t you just go outside and…stop commenting? No silly actions required. It’s free.
spabettie says
It’s easy to argue anonymously. How do you do it, though, without an industrially produced computer?
