I’m not gonna lie. I was trying all day yesterday to come up with a fun post to put up today for April Fools’ Day. But I swear, the more I tried to think of one, the worse my ideas got. Ahh well…anyone have any good pranks they’re playing today? Or have you already fallen for any?
So somehow, the other day, a co-worker of mine and I got on the topic of some of the best meals we’ve ever had. Needless to say, the topic left me drooling, and also had me craving said meals in a seriously bad way. I’ve been thinking even more about some of the best meals I’ve ever had, and when it comes right down to it, if I could have any three meals today (plus dessert, duh), I’d absolutely pick these…
Breakfast
Oh, what I wouldn’t give to be back in Mexico right now, floating up to the swim-up bar for my first drink of the day. After, of course, having filled up on an amazing breakfast like this one.
I really loved ALL of the food at the Valentin Imperial Maya, but the crepes they served up for breakfast were just unreal. That would just totally hit the spot right now.
Runner Up? The oatmeal red raspberry pancakes from Café Madison. Heck. Yes.
Lunch
You guys are gonna quickly notice that my meals of choice today aren’t exactly of the light variety, so there’s that. But I really wouldn’t mind diving face first into this dish of crab dip from Tautog’s in Virginia Beach.
Long time readers, do you guys remember when we vacationed in Virginia Beach for a few days a couple years ago? It was a great time, and I really do think about this restaurant often (I’m forever grateful to the one and only Alyssa for recommending it to us while we were there!). I don’t know what it was about it…maybe just the fact that we were on vacation, maybe because it was a “secret” type of spot and it gave me the thrill of finding it…but whatever it was, it left a lasting impression. And I want ALL of that crab dip right. now.
Dinner
Dinner was a tougher one for me to think of. I’ve had a lot of great dinners in my day, but one that’s really standing out for me is the filet mignon from The Century House.
Maybe it’s because we were just there, but really, I’ve ordered it the last three times we’ve been there, and every single time it’s phenomenal.
Runner Up? Pasta Fagioli from Testo’s. Mmmm, mmm.
Dessert
Whenever someone asks me what one of my favorite desserts is, there is one that ALWAYS stands out in my mind…
This massive chocolate cake that we got from Prime Bar and Grill. Oh. My. God. It was what dreams are made of. And I wouldn’t be lying if I said I often toy with the idea of driving the 25 minutes north to get a piece of it to go. I’m not saying I’ve done it yet…but it’s not out of the question either.
Runner Up? Vanilla and raspberry twist with a crapton of rainbow sprinkles from Martha’s Dandee Crème.
So what about you guys? If you could have any meal at ALL today, what would it be? (And don’t tell me it’s a salad…unless it’s some seriously kick-butt salad and, in that case, I also need to get my hands on it).

My husband and I just had this conversation last night since we are planning our vacation. We were discussing some of the great places we have gone and of course…food! If I could have anything it would be the warm Nutella croissant with a coffee back in Rome, Italy for breakfast. For a treat, a macaroon from Paris and for dinner I would go back to this little restaurant we found in Florence for steak and wine. Oh the wine!
Britt@MyOwnBalance says
Haha! Definitely NOT a salad! I have had so may great meals it is hard to choose just one but I think if I had to choose, it would be the tasting menu from Spice Market in NYC. It is asian fusion and just totally delicious. I love it!
Linz @ Itz Linz says

It’s so, so hard for me to just pick one favorite meal of all time. I could maybe do like a top 10 though? Somewhere on that list would be a slice of pizza from NYC though.

What a fun idea for a post! This has got my brain working this morning. I’d have teh four cheese gnocchi from Paris.

We used to live in Kalamazoo, and there is a restaurant there called the Oakwood Bistro. It is still delicious (pumpkin lasagna!), but they used to have a vegetarian meatloaf that they served with redskin mashed potatoes and green beans. I still think about that meal and they haven’t had it for probably 8 years!
For dessert, I think I’d have to go with The Amway Grand’s flourless chocolate cake in Grand Rapids. Mmmm…
Liv @ Healthy Liv says
If I could have ANY meal today, it’d be a big plate of homemade lasagna with a piece of cookie dough cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory! I had some cheesecake from there this weekend for the first time in a longggg time, and man, it was AMAZING.
Alyssa @ Renaissancerunnergirl says
I would go for a clambake dinner…something about the spring weather!
Beks says
The Ahi Tuna Tartarre Tower for an appetizer, the Macadamia Crusted Mahi Mahi for an entree, and any of the Sweet Temptations from Disney Cruise Lines. The appetizer and entree are both from the Enchanted Garden on the Disney Dream. Best vacation ever!
Sarah @ Sarah's on the Run says
The chocolate melting cake from my honeymoon! Molten chocolate cake + vanilla ice cream + whipped cream…. I STILL dream about it 6 months later! :)
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday says
If I could have any one meal, it would probably go to Joe’s Seafood and Steakhouse in Chicago, and I’d have stone crab as an appetizer, the filet mignon and lemon butter asparagus for dinner, and the BEST peanut butter pie for dessert. And I’d leave feeling stuffed and very happy :)
jen @nutcaseinpoint says
ahh Martha’s! They don’t use the same recipe for their soft serve anymore, but Frozen Dreams in Glens Falls does (WAY better!).
I think my favorite dinner meal of all time would be Filet Mignon with broccoli and au gratin potatoes from Saltlik in Banff. Best. Beef. Ever.

Hi Court! Oh I wish I had photos of the best meals ever, but oftentimes they are enjoyed in a dark city restaurant! One thing to eat today? Wedding cake! hahaha Is that a meal?

It would easily be the mac and cheese from The Westside Local. It has this AMAZING seasoning to it, I can’t get over how good it is! And a big ol glass of wine as a side.

I just ate lunch and i’m already hungry again! Those meals look so good! We vacation in VA Beach every year and I have never been to that restaurant. Next time we are there we will have to check it out! If you ever go back, there is a restaurant called Catch 31st that is so amazing! They have the best lobster ravioli!
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
I’d go for some really good seafood…like a big ol’ lobster or grilled salmon. And then we can’t forget dessert… That’d be some sort of incredible chocolate lava cake or cheesecake or both? ;)
Caitlin says
I once did a post on what my last meal would be, but it’s interesting to break it down into breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert! I may have to do a similar post soon. Thanks for the idea! Oh, and vacation breakfasts are seriously THE BEST. I had some winners on my cruise a few weeks ago!

I have been thinking about Kay’s Pizza since they opened today and an orange vanilla twist from Snowman’s with rainbow sprinkles!! :)

Spenard Roadhouse in Anchorage, Alaska – Fig and Prosciutto Pizza. Nothing else matters.

Haha..one of my all-time favorite lunches really IS a salad! The chopped salad at the Ivy in LA. Oh my goodness I want to go back to LA so bad and 80% of the reason is this salad (and maybe the lobster mashed potatoes at STK). :)
