One of the things that I’ve really come to love when it comes to with living with our friends is the fact that I almost always have someone to cook with. While I love being able to cook with Jay at home, it isn’t always as feasible since one of us usually needs to be watching Lucas. But now that we’ve got four adults in the house here, there have been plenty of times where I either get the opportunity to cook with Jay (and Lucas plays with everyone else), or I get to cook with Kanika and the guys go off playing with the kids.
It’s an awesome thing.
Since I know these opportunities are going to be short-lived, we’re taking full advantage over here and I think all of us are enjoying some extra hands in the kitchen.
A couple of months ago, I had earned two “week of free meals” through Blue Apron to give to friends. I offered one of them to Kanika, and her and Shaheen wound up loving the service so much that they’ve been getting deliveries sent to them almost every week since. I was looking through some of their old recipe cards and definitely found some I want to try, like the White Pizza with Arugula Pesto, Pine Nuts & Pea Tips (she said it was phenomenal), the Hearty Chicken Salad with New Potatoes, Pickled Rhubarb & Goat Cheese, and the Sirloin Tip Steaks with New Potato, Asparagus & Radish Hash. YUMM.
So when we first moved in together and were trying to figure out a plan of attack when it came to meal planning, we figured it’d be a perfect opportunity to not only continue receiving weekly deliveries of Blue Apron, but to also try out their family plan.
While Jay and I have tried out the 2-Person Plan numerous times, we had yet to try out the Family Plan, which is perfect for feeding a family of four. With this plan you can opt to receive one or two deliveries per week, each delivery consisting of two meals to be served family-style.
The Family Plan is great for a family of four eating full portions, or a family with some younger kids eating smaller portions. For the six of us, the amount of food has been pretty spot on, and we’ve had enough to feed the four of us plus two small toddler bellies. The price for this plan is $8.74 per meal, or $69.92 per eight serving delivery, and shipping is always free, of course!
So if you guys have been reading for any amount of time, then you probably know by now that Jay and I love Blue Apron. While I do work with the brand, we still purchase meals for ourselves with our own money sporadically through the various months, as we’re doing now (we have a delivery coming this Wednesday that sounds AH-MAZING). The fact that they deliver all of the farm-fresh ingredients you need, right to your doorstep, in exactly the right proportions is just so convenient. There are no extra trips to the grocery store needed, and definitely no waste from unused ingredients.
In addition, I love the variety of dishes they offer (check out all of their recipes HERE!), as well as the new dishes they’re continuously adding to their menu every week (If you’re already a member, have you noticed that you can see your meals out, like, a month ahead now? SO awesome!). I swear, almost every time I make a new Blue Apron meal, I’m learning something new…whether it’s a dish, an ingredient, or a cooking method. Like the chicken “under a brick” (aka, a pot of water) we cooked Sunday night.
It certainly keeps dinner fun!
Not to mention, delicious.
One of the recipes we had this past week was Chinese Five-Spice Meatballs with Snow Peas and Jasmine Rice. Everything about it was delicious (ohmygoddd, the meatballs!), and we also loved how it was super toddler friendly for us all, too. The kids were big fans of it.
The other meal we enjoyed just this past Sunday Chicken “Under a Brick” with Spring Vegetable Quinoa & Rhubarb Compote, and it was a joint cooking effort by just about all of us!
We served the meal family style (as the family plan is meant to be), and I think we were all pretty impressed with it all.
The quinoa dish especially was super good, and you just couldn’t help but feel good eating it. It was packed with so much good for you stuff!
In my personal opinion, Blue Apron is an awesome service, and one that Jay and I will continue to utilize. The food is fresh, it’s delicious, and it’s just so convenient. Plus, there’s no commitment and you can cancel anytime (or skip weeks in between like we do). PLUS, good news for my Texans out there…Blue Apron just launched in Texas and now ships to most of the country! WOOT WOOT!
So I’ve got a couple of goodies to share with you guys…
First, Blue Apron is offering a discount to STSL readers. The first 50 readers will get two meals off their first Blue Apron order free! Just CLICK HERE to set up your order!
Second, I’ve got two invitations sitting in my personal account to give away a week of free meals. SO…I’m offering them up to you guys! As we get closer to having two babies, companies like Blue Apron are appealing to me more & more. I’m fully aware we’ll be living on cereal, donated meals, & quick/fast food for quite some time while adjusting but I really can’t think of a better way to feel some sort of “normalcy” after a couple weeks than by getting in the kitchen & throwing together a meal- especially one that is so pre-prepared! Going on day 3 in the hospital, some of which has been spent on a liquid diet just in case I go into labor, makes it tough to pick just one but I’d say the Roasted Poblano Chilaquiles are really speaking to me right now. Especially with that egg on top!!

I have been curious about Blue Apron for my husband and myself. I like the sound of all of the vegetarian burger like the beet and goat cheese in particular. I’ve always been afraid to make a veggie burger from scratch but have never found a frozen one that is very tasty either. So I would pick that recipe as well as the cheese cannelloni.
