1. Uncle Dan came to visit us last night!
Unfortunately when he arrived, Lucas was expecting Jay so my brother didn’t get the warmest of welcomes from Mr. Lucas. But he won him over eventually and we all had some fun together.
2. I am so bad at changing my contacts and razor blades at the right time. I am a repeated offender of wearing my contacts until they’re noticeably too blurry to keep using and I’ll use my razor blades until they wind up feeling like they’re ripping the skin off of my legs. I really need to get my ish together, I know. Especially with the contacts…yikes.
3. My poor baby took quite a spill earlier this week while he was at daycare and ended up bruising/scraping his face.
I know this is only just the beginning, and I’m trying to prepare myself to be the strong mama this active, rambunctious little guy is going to need…but man.
4. iHerb.com is having a special offer between now and October 31st – 10% off all orders over $40. And, of course, you can use my discount code SAZ564 to get yourself some great deals! I just ended up ordering some of this Mild by Nature for Baby Tear Free Shampoo and Body Wash for Lucas after seeing some amazing reviews.
The child has some sensitive skin just like his mama, so I’m hoping this will work well for him. I’ll let you guys know how it is once we try it out a bit!
5. So I had an interesting appointment at my allergist yesterday. I met with a new doctor who basically told me that he thinks the food allergies I tested positive for were actually false positives. Makes sense, considering I still eat most of them and I don’t get any reactions whatsoever. Now if we could just get my environmental allergies under control…UGH. Hopefully all of this immunotherapy I’ve been doing is helping!
6. I’ve suddenly found myself in a bit of a plaid/flannel phase. I ended up buying this shirt from Old Navy on the last day of their Stuff & Save event, and now I’ve currently got my eye on this one and this one from Target. There’s just something so cozy and relaxed about a cute flannel, skinny jeans or leggings (if the shirt is long enough…no bum showing for this girl), boots and a scarf.
6-1/2. So while we’re at it, I want to know…what’s your take on puffy vests? Cute/worth the investment? Or a waste? I’m still on the fence, because I like the look of an outfit paired with one, but at the same time, if I want to get warmer, I’m usually just going to put on a full jacket with sleeves…
7. I’m getting closer and closer to finally getting my hair done. I’ve been eyeballing a few different looks and colors, and I’m currently loving this look/color…
As for the cut, I think it’s about time to add a front angle back in, along with some long layers. I’ve also been toying with the idea of some side swept bangs, but I just don’t know if I can take the plunge. Anytime I go down that road, I always regret it…yet, I still can’t get them off of my mind!
8. Heard some awesome news around these parts yesterday…we’re going to be getting a Nordstrom Rack! Granted, it’s not coming until fall of 2015, but I’ll be ready.
Ok @nordstrom_rack, you made my day! Even if I do have to wait a year for you to come to #Albany! http://t.co/eaZpOQP6w5 #NordstromRack

9. I know I mentioned it last week too, but I am seriously loving me some PiYo these days. I’ve found that I’m just not quite as interested in the T25 at the moment, and just cannot get enough of the intense-in-a-totally-different-way burn that PiYo is giving. My legs and shoulders have not felt like this in a LONG time. I. Love. It.
10. Yesterday, I used up the last of my apples from our trip to the orchard to make my absolute favorite apple crisp.
I only made half of a batch, based on the number of apples I had left, but it did not disappoint, as usual.
11. Earlier this week, I took the time to descale my Keurig. I’d already been planning on it, thanks to some friendly, yet gross reminders of just how dirty they can get but then the notification came on the machine so we knew it was time.
I followed the directions on this post and it was super easy, but it does require a few hours. So I’d say if you own a Keurig, haven’t cleaned it in a while (or in forever, like my case), and are gonna be home for a bit this weekend, go ahead and give it a cleaning. And while you’re at it, look into some Stainless Steel Refillable K-Cups. We totally love ours.
12. I will leave you all with this fun fact for today…Lucas has mastered the art of the frown.
This kid. I’ll tell ya, he is quite the character! He’ll be laughing and smiling then, all of a sudden, he breaks out the frown. Comes from nowhere, but it gets us laughing every single time. And everyone in my family agrees that we know where he gets it from…
Yep, that’s his mama.
Alright friends, that’s all I’ve got for today. Hope you all have a fabulous Friday and a wonderful weekend, whatever you may be doing!
Brynn says
As far as changing things out in a timely mannor, I’m always bad at tooth brushes and loofahs. I will all of a sudden realize I don’t know how long it’s been and then that pushes me to change them. Bad, bad.
Love the hair and all of the plaid!! Also, puffy vests are silly in cold climates bc the wearing window is so small, but I still think it’s worth it. They are just too cute for fall.
Bri says
I just started a PiYo challenge this week and am absolutely loving it! It’s amazing how these movements are such sweat inducers! Hurts so good. And that Lucas frown?? Amazing. These boys, I tell ya. Ps, loving the flannel!
Courtney says
I totally agree with you! Plus, it’s nice to switch things up on the muscles too, since the muscles I’m currently feeling have not been felt in a while, haha!
Linz @ Itz Linz says
That frown!! Too cute! Sometimes pouty pictures are hilarious – gotta capture ALL their moments! I’m not a fan of puffy vests, like you said, if I’m old I’m gonna wear a jacket!
Heather @Fit N Cookies says
Lucas’ frown is the best face ever! Love it! I am also in need of a hair cut and am thinking of heading out after school. I want a few inches chopped off of mine, and my bangs trimmed up. I love vests, and I actually think they keep me pretty warm. If it’s a little chillier, I’ll throw some gloves on if we’re outside and with a long sleeve shirt, I’m pretty good to go! Of course, if I’m outside for a while, I’d rather wear a coat.
Torry @ A World Without Wheat says
I had a puffy vest once….I didn’t wear it a lot. In fact my sister ended up taking it to college with her and I didn’t even realize it was gone until I saw her wearing it last weekend, and she’d now done with school. Shows how much I missed it!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
Ah the frown! Haha <3 So cute!
Damn, I wish I had a Nordstrom Rack!
Linda @ running4two says
I’m with you…I LOVE flannel and plaid! I just got the cutest plaid shirt from Stitch Fix that looks just like the one in the picture. :-)
My daughter does the frown too…they really know how to work the face. LOL.
Courtney says
Oooo really?? I’m totally going to request one in my next fix now, thank you!!
Britt@MyOwnBalance says
Oh my gosh! That frown is priceless!! I hope he is ok after his fall.
I tried iHerb and I really like it! They have stuff that is hard to find at the grocery store, which is great!
Courtney says
I agree!! They really have a lot of good stuff on there, and some of it is really nicely priced too :)
Brie @ Lean, Clean, & Brie says
That frown- oh my goodness! I love that picture!
Happy Friday!!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
THAT FROWN! Oh my goodness!!!
Monica says
I’m exactly the same way with contacts and razor blades. It is terrible! I once made a year of contacts last two and a half years… without conciously trying to!
That cut and color is beautiful. I’m with you on the bangs thing… I always regret getting them, but every time it is time to get my hair done, I really want to get them again! I recently cut over a foot off my own hair and feel great, so a new ‘do will make you feel like a new person! Good luck!
Courtney says
Oh wow, now THAT is impressive with the contacts, haha!! :)
Shawna says
i have quite the obsession w/ plaid (some flannel, some not) shirts, and i have 2 puffy vests (a thin white one and a thicker royal blue one) that i absolutely lovveee. invested in the blue one last year — i went for Calvin Klein via TJ Maxx, can’t beat it — and it was such a good choice, as i never want to take it off! love those highlights, and side bangs are a fun look but i agree, after about a week i want them long enough to pull back into a pony again. happy Friday!
Courtney says
I’m thinking about a thin one, since the puffy ones just always seem to look a little awkward on me. Thanks for the input, Shawna! :)
Parita @ myinnershakti says
I am in desperate need for a haircut and some sort of color (my grays are showing in a big way). But I have to wait until a wedding I am in is over. My friend asked that we try to keep our hair on the longer side for hairstyle purposes. LOL! Just a few short weeks to go!
Courtney says
Oh gosh, that’s the worst!! Hope the next few weeks go by quicklyyyyyy ;)
cait @pieceofcait says
my sister loves piyo! I am loving t25 at moment, but still like to attend yoga classes.. i am bit of a mixture : ) love that frowwwwwn he is just the cutest <3
Anne says
Any idea if PIYO is pregnancy-friendly? I’m 32 weeks and still running, so not necessarily worried about being in shape enough for it, but more worried about whether it’s worth it to buy now, as I’m bored with my other videos – or wait until after pregnancy?
Courtney says
Hmmm…I’d say some possibly are safe, but not all? I haven’t done all of the videos yet, so I can’t speak for all of them. Thinking off the top of my head (and about how I was at 32 weeks prego) I’m not sure some of it would be too comfortable. BUT, that’s just my opinion!
Anne says
Ok – thanks lady!!
Amanda L says
Not to be stalker-ish – but what did your doc say about the “false positives”? I’m like you – have asthma/allergies – and test positive for just about every food but eat everything and never notice a reaction. Is this reall a thing?
Courtney says
Haha, not stalkerish at all :) For me, I have super sensitive skin, so when they tested for the environment allergies, I even reacted to the histamine (the control). So he said it’s very possible that my skin just reacted and it’s not necessarily a true reaction, especially since my numbers were also so low. They even make me have a prescription for an epi pen and I’m always like, whaaaat?! I never react to ANY of these things!
Aurora@Fitness is Sweet says
When I got allergy tested, some of my favorite foods came up as well! The doc said some of them were cross reacting to pollens (carrots and blueberries). I’m also apparently super allergic to every pollen….not sure if it’s an option for you but I’m doing an allergy treatment that consists of taking drops every day. It takes a long time, but it’s supposed to “cure” allergies.
Marielle says
Your little man’s grumpy face is the cutest, I’m sure it’s hard not to smile when I see that face! :) and I’ve been seeing all these instagram and blog posts about old navy flannels, I think I’m going to try to get me some this weekend!
Courtney says
Yes! They did mention that too, about them cross reacting to pollens. Who woulda thought, right?! And I’ve never heard of allergy drops…but now I’m intrigued!
Ellen says
Oh my goodness, that frown is perfect!
I actually really like puffy vests. They’re obviously not good for a day when it’s absolutely freezing and you’re going to be outside a lot, but when it’s cold and you’re running errands, it’s nice to feel pretty comfortable both outside and inside stores. Also, they’re cute!
Courtney says
I totally agree that they’re cute! I just need to find a good one I guess…any recommendations?? :)
Ellen says
I have this one: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp?productId=0385_1902_576&catId=cat6470522
(I bought a size up so I could comfortably layer stuff underneath, but I’m not sure how necessary that was). It’s quite warm and I’d buy it again for sure.
I’ve also been kind of looking at getting something like this: http://www.target.com/p/women-s-quilted-vest-black/-/A-15143243#prodSlot=_1_3
…Or spending a little more on something like this: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/michael-michael-kors-quilted-down-vest/3825921?origin=category-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=Red&resultback=386&cm_sp=personalizedsort-_-browseresults-_-1_1_A
Sorry, that’s a lot of links. Anyway, I have personal experience with the AE one and really like it, and I’ve heard good things about both the others :)
Courtney says
Awesome, thanks Ellen!!
michelle kim says
OooOh how funny that you guys make the same face!
Awww missed a sale at Old Navy… I could easily have done some damage if I had gone, haha.
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
Hahaha – that frown! I am loving it.
My obsession with plaid/flannel tops started last year, and it only continues! I’ve been eyeing the ones at Target and one at Old Navy too, but I already have a few so I’m trying to use some self control. We’ll see how long that lasts. ;) As for the puffy vests, I love them, especially for fall and spring (well, in Utah at least…they’ll be great for winter here in AZ) when it’s chilly but you don’t quite need a heavy jacket. Adding a scarf helps with extra warmth too when you don’t want a big jacket.
Courtney says
Where did you get your vest from??
Ashley @ My Food N Fitness Diaries says
Old Navy. It’s actually not a super puffy one, which I like because then I can wear it under a jacket if I need to, but it’s still pretty warm. I know Gap has some cute puffy ones too!
Heather @ Housewife Glamour says
Oh my gosh, that frown is too cute!! I love Lucas. And don’t worry, I’m a repeat offender for the razor situation. Whoops. LOVE puffy vests! I wasn’t sure until I moved up to MI, but they’re a great transition on days where it’s too warm for a full on jacket, but chilly enough to want something over your flannel. The best of both worlds! <3
Courtney says
Where do you have one from?? I want to find a good one!
Heather @ Housewife Glamour says
I got my first one from H&M for like $35. It’s down and amazing. I have another from Forever 21, but just recently got an incredibly warm one from lucy (as part of a campaign) http://www.lucy.com/Winter-Hideaway-Vest/111577,default,pd.html?cgid=New_Arrivals It’s so cute, but super expensive. I bet Old Navy has a decent selection!
Courtney says
Ok I’m super jealous…that Lucy one is AWESOME! Man, I want in on that campaign, haha ;) xoxo
Lindsay's List says
Totally cleaning my Keurig now thanks to you!!
Angela @ HonestlyAngela says
That little guy’s frown is too funny! I am the exact same with contacts and razor blades
I think I have had the same blade in my razor for almost a year (oops!) I now use the contacts that you throw out every day. This works so much better for me!
Ashley @ A Lady Goes West says
Definitely get a puffy vest! I want one too.
Eryn @ BlondMindedBrunette says
I’m on the fence with the vests too! My friend wears them all the time and looks super cute, but the few times I’ve tried them on I just feel like a giant marshmallow!
Courtney says
I’m with you! I feel the same way…maybe I’m just not finding the right vest…?
Nicole says
Is Lucas kidddddddding he’s so CUTE!!!!!! Sorry, long time blog reader I hardly comment but I can’t get over that face LOL love how you have the same pic of yourself!
Courtney says
Awww, haha, thanks Nicole! Have a great weekend!
Lauren @ ihadabiglunch says
Oh my gosh I’m guilty of the razor thing as well! I JUST bought a new pack of razors (I’ve been using the same one since….May….yep)
Shel@PeachyPalate says
That colour is BEAUTIFUL!! Definitely go for it!
Hillary | Nutrition Nut on the Run says
I got one of those flannels from Target. I love the skinnies + flannel + boots loo, too!
KatieS says
RE: the puffy vest. I like them. I have a black one that pairs with basically everything. And I find they’re really helpful while shopping (especially Christmas shopping!) They’re enough to keep you from freezing between the car and store, but keep you from sweating bullets OR having to carry a heavy coat once you get inside.
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, & Beers says
That frown is still too cute. When I tell Ethan “NO” and he gets a pouty face, it is soooooo hard not to bust out laughing. He just looks so cute and pitiful. It’s hilarious.
As for the vests, get one! I’ve been eying a quilted looking one from Old Navy for a while now, but I’m also trying to save $. Get one in my honor. ha
haley @Cupcakes and Sunshine.com says
WOW! You and Lucas are twins! Absolutely adorable. I’m whipping up that apple crisp! We’re headed to the apple farms this weekend!
Anna says
I was on the fence about puffer vests as well until I recently bought one! I love it! It’s actually pretty warm and not constricting in the shoulder like some jackets can be. Definitely worth it!!
Courtney says
Good to know! Which one did you wind up getting, Anna??
Anna says
I got mine from Forever 21! I have it in black, but it comes in red and blue as well and best part – it was only $20. The vest is really lightweight, yet still warm, so I’m happy with it!

Lauren @ The Bikini Experiment says
Puffy vests are awesome! I have one I love from the Loft and Forever 21. The Nordstrom Rack close by will be great! Enjoy the weekend.
Nancy says
I’m not sure why people dislike the puffy vests. I’ve had my brown one from American Eagle since 2004, and I still wear it every Fall! I LOVE it.
Jessica W. says
That side by side is absolutely adorable! ohhh and I love puffy vests! I see ones that I like on others but have been having a hard time finding one that looks as cute on me! I will be searching your comments here for links as well! thanks!
Kay @ Kay Bueno says
My boyfriend has been trying to convince me to the vest side. (He loves the fleece one he has). And until I saw your outfit board, I’d never have considered it. (I mean, I’m usually trying to make my torso look less puffy, rather than more.) But I can totally see it over a comfy flannel.
Basically, you should totally go for it, and maybe I should too.
ellie | fit for the soul says
Hehehe this post is too cute!! You guys look identical there, but you definitely have changed a lot :D And I say, go with your heart’s desire for a change of hairdo!! I always find that no matter how much I love it or am just “okay” with a certain change, I’m glad I did it because it’s fun to experiment and hey…I’m only this young once ;)
John says
Thank you for sharing and thank you for really nice presentation.
Julie says
OMG that frown is hilarious! Too cute!
