Two New Upper Body Workouts

By Courtney 28 Comments

Okay, I know I already said this last night but seriously, where did the weekend go?!? I mean, weekends usually go by pretty fast for me, but this weekend totally flew by. Must have been because we were havin’ so much fun?

Here’s what you may have missed:

Last Night Was The Night

It was a fun weekend, indeed!

*****

Along with all that fun also came lots of indulgent foods and sweets, so this morning was no doubt going to include a trip to the gym. Our usual instructor was back today, so I took advantage and hit up the BodyCombat class. No spinning for me this week!

Typically, I like to follow up BodyCombat with an upper body weights session at the gym, but I decided to come home early and do it here instead. On Saturday, I briefly mentioned that I had completed some upper body weights but never gave you any specifics. Well, now I am, because I like to share good things. Smile

For any of my fellow Exercise TV fans, I have two new upper body workouts that I’m totally loving:

  • Rock Hard Arms (20 minutes)
  • Strong and Sexy Upper Body Burn (10 minutes)

On Saturday, I did the Rock Hard Arms and was totally psyched to see that not only is that video available, but one of my old favorites, Rock Hard Total Body, is back! I can’t wait to give that one a go again. The Rock Hard Arms video not only works your upper body, but it also gives you a pretty intense ab workout, too. Jay and I actually both did this workout on Saturday and are both still sore from it (Marco Reed is no joke!). The only thing we both thought was lacking a bit was exercises for the triceps.

Today, I tried out the Strong and Sexy Upper Body Burn with Cindy Whitmarsh and I thought it was great. This video was a little more fast-paced, working in a pyramid-style system (higher reps down to lower reps) and while it hit more muscle groups than the first video, I also felt that it didn’t quite work them to fatigue as much as the Rock Hard Arms workout did.

That being said, I loved both videos and will probably use them interchangeably for the next couple of weeks; you know, until I get bored again. Winking smile

Breakfast

Today’s combo was a good one, folks. A little sweet, a little savory, and a whole lotta yummy.

IMG_9273

Savory: Egg scramble made with 1 egg, 1/4 cup egg substitute, salt pepper, and basil

IMG_9281

Sweet: A slice of Pumpkin Gingerbread heated in the micro and topped with PB

IMG_9275

Yes, Pumpkin Gingerbread…and it’s amazing. I saw this recipe on Holly’s blog a couple of days ago and had been waiting for a chance to make it all week. I finally got a chance yesterday morning and followed her recipe almost exactly, subbing pumpkin pie spice for the ginger, and I skipped the chocolate chips.

I must say, for being a practically fat-free bread, it is super moist and so full of flavor. The cloves are pretty prominent in the recipe, so if they aren’t your thing, then I’d probably cut back. I love it though – it’s seriously incredible!

IMG_9276

So much so that I also ate another piece before even plating this one. Winking smile

Lots to do today, so it’s time to get crack-a-lackin’!

Questions for the Morning:

WOULD YOU RATHER…

  • Have a stronger, more defined upper body –OR- lower body?
  • Eat your eggs scrambled –OR – over easy?
  • Bake dessert –OR- cook dinner?

I'm going to have to check out those arm workouts. I love exercise TV! Upper body. I have strong legs, but my upper body is lacking. Both! I love eggs and could probably eat them everyday because there are so many options. Bake dessert. As much as I enjoy cooking, there is nothing better than sneaking bites of batter and the smell that fills the house where there's a dessert in the oven.

Your scrambled eggs look perfect - scrambled eggs is the one recipe I am yet to perfect! Even though I'm normally an egg-whites girl, scrambled eggs are a fail for me even when I involve the yolk!

That bread looks wonderful and just what I need right now to feed this cold! Thanks to you, what was an ironing night now looks like turning into a baking night instead :) Will let you know how it turns out and thanks for the pass on the ironing! (I don't mind creases anyway!)

Upper body, I have toothpick arms which no matter how hard I try I'll get some definition but no added muscle. I think it's in the genes. I have to go with scrambled, the yolk of over easy gives me the heebie geebies. I think I'd have to go with baking because right now all I want to do is make some pumpkin ginger bread (it looks delicious)! I've finished off my loaf of banana bread with my family's help so I think it's time to make a new loaf.

I wish we had BodyCombat at my gym, but at least I have BodyPump. I would rather have a defined upper body because my lower body has always been sturdy and strong (ie- big muscly calves...boo). I love having over easy eggs when I have toast or potatoes to soak up the yolks, but I also enjoy scrambled. I prefer to cook dinner because baking baffles me unless it's semi-homemade.

I think I'd want more toned bottom. It's easier to hide flabby arms. Definitely go with baking over cooking. The results are just tastier! And scrambled eggs all the way! The yolks in easy over freak me out...lol

I used to crave the upper body where I'd proudly wear sleeveless or strapless, but now that I have it all I want is a toned bottom half. The grass is always greener, right? Maybe I can start doing squats while I eat my scrambled eggs... And I'll leave the baking to the rest of my friends, give me a wok and some spices and some fire, and I'll cook all the dinners!

I'm definitely more of a fan of toned arms/abs. I think super toned lower bodies don't look as natural. Scrambled eggs and dessert definitely win out for this girl!:)

I definitely take more pride in having a stronger upper body. I love watching the muscles contract when I'm lifting. It makes me feel so strong! :-) You and I have a mutual love for Marco Reed. His workouts are so effective - and he isn't too bad to look at either. ;-)

I love hearing about new Exercise TV workouts! I love Cindy Whitmarsh, so I will definitely try out the Strong and Sexy Upper Body one! She had another one that I loved, but it's only on On Demand every so often - Tank Top Arms. It's a 20 minute routine that is awesome. Thanks for the tips, I'll be checking them out!!

A quite easy question, but one that speaks volumes concerning the level of professionalism and commitment the consultant employs in their own personal business. While you'll find natural ways of ranking on-page one that are free (it is difficult to be done overnight) but while using right training it's possible.
