Well, if you’ve been following on Instagram then you probably already know, but we are officially homeowners once again!
Our closing went nice and smooth, and by Friday afternoon, we were starting to move right in. Since the majority of our stuff was moving on Saturday, we really just took our time bringing a few things into the house, and also started putting some paint samples on the wall (I’ll get to that in a sec…).
It was actually Lucas’s first time at the house on Friday, so we had fun watching him explore. He already knows where most of the rooms are now, including his bedroom and mommy and daddy’s bedroom and loved showing them off to Uncle D and Carissa last night.
But most of all, Lucas was in his GLORY before all of the boxes came in, running around in such a big, new, empty space.
We didn’t sleep in the house Friday night, so after putting Lucas to bed at my parents’ house, we decided to go back over for some late night work…along with a little wine, of course.
We managed to get Lucas’s ceiling fan up.
As well as his crib…and the wine certainly helped.
Cheers!
We also put up a new ceiling fan in our bedroom, too.
I’ll be sure to get better pictures and share more details on everything once we’re more settled!
Saturday morning was the big moving day, so my mom helped us out by bringing Lucas out to get some fuel for the movers (aka, some of our amazing cousins and parents!).
Lucas and papa were big helpers, too.
Saturday was definitely a LONG day, and was also the last night we were going to be staying at my parents’ house, so we all toasted to the exciting move with some champagne.
A second bottle was also brought out and, well, we’ll just say it was a good evening.
By the time we got back to the house on Sunday, there was a LOT to do.
We had Lucas with us and had him take his first nap in the house, which went great (thank goodness, he’s adjusted so well with his sleeping no matter where we’ve been this summer).
While he napped, Jay worked around the house and I took a quick trip to Target for a few things. I was SO excited when I found these bar stools for our island, so I grabbed two and brought them home…
Only to discover that they’re too tall for our island. Guess I should have known that impulse buy wasn’t the best idea!
But I will say, they are GORGEOUS bar stools, so if you’re in the market for some, definitely check them out…just measure your counters first.
So right now, I’m finishing typing up this post at my parents’ house (since we’re still without cable/internet) and about to head to the grocery store, for what I’m sure is going to be a decent sized haul. But I’ll leave you all with this…
I really, really dislike painting. And I am having the hardest time deciding on one! They all look different in person vs in pictures, and the ones I thought I’d LOVE, I just don’t. For example, the color in the middle on the bottom row is Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter, which I fell in love with all over Pinterest.
Top color (Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray) above is same as bottom right in top picture; bottom color (Benjamin Moore Abalone) is same as bottom left in top picture.
But I think it’s just way too dark! So I don’t know…I hate to keep buying quart sized samples of paint because it certainly all adds up, so maybe I’ll just start taping massive amounts of swatches to my wall and do eeny meeny miney mo?
Ahh well, we’ll figure it out! For now, I’m off to the grocery store…so I’ll catch up with you guys again soon, hopefully! Hope you all have a fabulous week ahead. <3

Congrats! And way to red solo cup it! <3

I gotta say I love the Edgecomb Gray. Congrats on the house!
Kelsey Bjelland says
Your new home looks so beautiful! I’m so excited for you and to see how you decorate it!
Cat @ Reader/Eater says
CONGRATS! moving requires so much booze. so much. Is Albany like Ithaca in that most homes do not have central air?
Ash Diamond says
We are going through the same thing since we are moving this week. We went with Benjamin Moore Coventry Gray after looking at some of the same ones you mention above! Good luck!
Niki @ Life With Niki says
Is it really weird that from the title of the post and the picture I thought you were going to announce another pregnancy :P? I honestly thought you and your husband were holding a ‘positive’ pregnancy tip in the picture!
Anyways, congratulations on the new place <3!
Heather Brown says
Yay! Congrats! I know I struggle with paint, too, and I’d say go lighter than you think. It always looks darker. Did you check Home Depot? We got these tiny little samples for $3. I bought 4 for the nursery to try out and am so glad I did before buying any more!
michelle says
I was going to suggest the same thing. Always go for the lighter shade!
Kathryn McDowell says
I’m LOVING the abalone! Especially shown next to your cabinets!
Torry @ A World Without Wheat says
So happy for you – cannot wait to see how it all comes together!
Lauren says
Congrats!! Try Benjamin Moore stonington grey! We just used it in my sons nursery and it’s a gorgeous grey. Coventry grey was nice too but a little darker than I was looking for as his room isn’t a huge space. Good luck!
Kait says
Hi! Did you know you can have the paint store reduce the ‘strength’ of the color you like? They can reduce it by 50% / 75% to give you a lighter version of the color you love. I have done it several times in my home! Congrats on the move!
Katie McClung says
Congrats on the new house! Gray is a REALLY hard color to choose! So many variations and undertones. I settled on Sherwin Williams – Alpaca and have been happy with it. Happy painting :)
Carly says
My mom just painted her entire house Edgecomb grey and it’s beautiful..however to be honest it looks way lighter than it does on your walls…not quite sure why… ha.
Sarah says
Revere Pewter definitely changes color as the light in the room changes – our whole house is that color and i LOVE it. It’s actually quite a bit lighter than I expected!! Good luck!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
Yay! Congrats! xoxo
Sarah says
We had the same problem when I was painting swatches in our living room…everything looked way too dark! My husband convinced me to go with the darker color (Sherwin Williams Balanced Beige) and I’m really glad we did! It looks much lighter all over the walls than it did in just the small swatch. Hope that helps!
Hayley@HealthyRegardsHayley says
congrats!! Btw- when did Lucas get so big?! He is such a cutie.
Alyssa says
I’m also in the process of painting my entire first floor, and it definitely is a process! I decided on a light gray from Sherwin Williams for my hallways – Crushed Ice (the name doesn’t match the color).
Meg says
So exciting about the new house! We just built our new house this year too and paint colors were the hardest thing to pick out, hands down! Our master bedroom is a light grey (Sherwin Williams- Passive) and it looks beautiful on the walls, and our guest room is a darker grey (Benjamin Moore – Stonington Gray) so you might want to get a sample of those :)
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
YAY new house!!!! Also, I feel like when it comes to painting your wall greys, you just have to pick a light one and go with it. Paint always looks darker once it dries anyways! I think any of those will look great once it’s all said and done :)
Brenda says
Congrats!
I would advise going with a light color in your kitchen. My kitchen is painted a darker gray, and I hate it! I wish I would have done a light gray like the kitchen from Bower Power.
Natalie @ The Ravenous Mommy says
Congrats!! Busy weekend, but it must be awesome having your own place again :)
Natalie says
We have revere pewter in almost every room in our house and LOVE it, but if you love the idea of the color but it is too dark they can lighten it for you. I have done that with a bunch of colors I liked the color but wanted lighter.
Jackie says
Congrats! Your new house looks beautiful!
Christy says
House looks so nice, congrats!! Have you thought about using 2 colors? Maybe family room one, kitchen another? Or doing the fireplace wall a darker grey as more of a accent wall and lighter in kitchen? I have always found going dark makes room look smaller and makes room darker… Light colors make space seem open and bright. Im sure it looks different in person but the top and bottom left ones in first pic looks like a good combo, or the bottom row, left and center seem to go well. Good luck!
Courtney says
Thanks! That was my original plan but there is really no clear spot to where I’d stop one color and do another. The whole kitchen/living room area flows together!
Cindy says
Great news – congratulations! Looking forward to seeing how it all comes together!
Julie says
Congrats!!! So exciting!
Grays are so hard. And they’re going to look different on each wall depending on the lighting in the room. We painted most of our walls on our main level a gray that I’m now not crazy about ‘cuz it looks almost mauve (the 1st gray we tried looked baby blue!)… but it’s stayin’! Just curious – why didn’t you have your builders do the painting for you?
Courtney says
Haha – because we couldn’t decide on colors and because they wanted to charge a lot extra for it!
Julie says
I wondered it that was the reason… I’ve never built a home before so wasn’t sure. That’s kind of annoying – it’s not like it’s extra work for them, and it would’ve been so nice to have it done before you moved in (& before carpet was laid). :(
Faith@TheStirringPlace says
Congrats! I bet it feels amazing to have your own home again! Here’s to many years of love and laughter there. :)
Katie says
Congrats! I bet it’s a wonderful feeling you have a home now! <3 I wish Wisconsin & New York were closer so I could help with your paint issues ;) My hubby owns a paint & design business!
Courtney says
Oh man, now that would be fabulous!! :)
Whitney says
Oh man! Hubs and I are in the middle of building a custom home. BM Revere Pewter was definitely on my radar for paint colors! So many decisions, good luck! :)
Kelsey says
If you’re looking for a true gray (no purple/blue/green/etc. undertones), we went with Behr Elephant Skin. We had the entire communal space of our house painted the day we closed, so we could get it done before the furniture moved, but that also means we were taking a big gamble on the color. We couldn’t paint swatches on the walls until we closed, so we deliberated for months. It can be dark if it’s in a dimly lit room, but you can always have them color it at 50 or 75%.
Erin M. says
Congratulations!!
Rachel Forsman says
Hi Courtney! I’ve neen following your blog for a while now and I don’t know if you’ll see this or not but wanted to let you know we recently remodeled our home and the color we chose for our walls was revere pewter by Benjamin Moore. I LOVE the color! Our house has a lot of windows and natural light and the color is not dark at all! Just wanted to give you my 2 cents! It is such a warm versatile color and I love love love it:) happy painting!:)
Courtney says
Thanks so much, Rachel! I need to try a larger swatch of that color on our wall because I really love it! I’m just nervous it’s going to be too dark?!?
Rachel Forsman says
Another thing we did was lighten the color by 50%. We used the lighter color in the back rooms of the house that don’t get quite as much light and used it on ablaze accent wall in our living room and it looks great! At first I was unsure of the color too but once you get it on the walls it’s just awesome:). So if you really like the color but are just concerned it may be too dark maybe get a sample of it 50% lighter and see if you like that?:).
jenn@Mark My Miles! says
Congrats! That is so exciting to be moving into the new house! Can not wait to see pictures!
Grace @ Diary of a Running Snail says
Everything looks fantastic! How exciting!
And I would’ve been more than willing to help with those donuts as incentive:) yum!
tiff @ love, sweat, & beers says
Yay – congrats! I’d say that definitely calls for champagne. ;)
Jennifer says
We have revere pewter in our living room and love it! I seem to recall a smaller sample looked darker than it did when the entire room was painted. But, I think it all depends on the light and other colors in your room.
Stephanie says
I commented on Instagram to suggest Glidden Fossil Gray. I grabbed some Revere Pewter as well and didn’t like it in my space even though it looks great on the interweb. Maybe I’ll use it somewhere else, but it wasn’t right for my main living area and kitchen. I had used the Glidden paint in my previous house and thought it looked great both in natural and artificial light so I kept my fingers crossed and guess what? It looks AMAZING in the new house!
Good luck making your choice!
Alyssa @ Life of bLyss says
I am the queen of buying things on impulse and returning them because they don’t work in the space. Just wait until you’re trying to buy rugs and throw pillows…. my arch nemesis.
Kristy @ Southern In Law says
Congratulations, guys! How exciting!!
I am so glad it is you choosing paint colours and not me. I hate making decisions like that as I overanalyse them way too much, however, Jesse always decides on impulse haha.
