One of my favorite types of posts to both read and write (despite them taking forever!) but since I actually remembered to document basically my whole day yesterday, I’ve got another “day in the life” for ya today. If you’re super curious (or nosy, let’s just be honest, I am too!) you can check out the archives of my day in the life posts, too.
5:10am – Alarm goes off. Hit snooze, of course.
5:26am – Alarm goes off for the third time, apparently I didn’t really remember the second time. Turn that off, roll into my workout clothes and head downstairs.
5:30am – Grab a drink of water and eat half of a Clif Z Bar – just enough to get me through an early workout.
5:35am – Head down to the basement with my laptop. I had started another round of the FB Mass program on Fitness Blender (you can read my review of their FB Strong program here!), but I haven’t really been sticking with it fully.
Since I’m mixing things up a bit, I opt to make it a leg day, and do Kelli’s Booty Workout (32 mins) followed by this 100 Rep Squat Challenge (10 mins), and by the end my legs are completely toasted. Whew!
6:25am – Head back upstairs, shower, and get ready (hair, makeup, get dressed) for the day.
7:00am – Lucas is awake for the day and in a good mood, which is a pleasant surprise! I help him pick out some clothes for the day then head back to finish getting myself ready, while Jay gets the coffee brewing.
7:30am – Jay comes back upstairs to say goodbye (he usually does dropoff for Alex to daycare and leaves around this time, but our sitter is off today so my MIL will be coming over) and we both go in to get Alex before he heads off.
7:40am – Downstairs with both boys dressed and ready for the day, so I’m feeling pretty good about not having a crazy rushed morning (it makes SUCH a difference!). I pour myself some coffee and log into work, checking a few emails and making sure that there’s nothing urgent waiting for me.
The boys keep themselves occupied with some toys and books, while I start to tackle all of the clean dishes we’d left out on the counter the night before to dry.
Blech.
It takes all of about 5 minutes before the boys want my help with something, so I compromise and say I’ll spare a few minutes to set up some bowling pins. Sooo, we do some kitchen bowling.
8:15am – Let the boys get back to playing, I check in on work again, then start to put together Lucas’s lunch for the day.
8:25am – My MIL arrives, we all say our hellos, and then it’s time for the boys to brush their teeth before we get ready to head out and wait for the bus.
8:40am – The bus arrives and we all say our goodbyes to Lucas! My MIL keeps Alex occupied (please notice the oversized sandals he insisted on wearing in the picture above) while I run back in and quickly cook myself some eggs (1 egg + 1/2 cup egg whites) and eat those while doing a little more work on the computer.
9:20am – Log off from work, say goodbye to my little guy and MIL, then I’m out the door to head to Lucas’s school! On Monday mornings, I’m lucky enough to be able to volunteer in his classroom, and today we’re doing some bingo with short ‘a’ and short ‘i’ words.
11:10am – Finish up with the morning work, clean up, head to the cafeteria to say goodbye to Lucas, and then I’m off to work.
11:20am – Arrive at the office, log back in, and get started again with work.
11:45am – I am absolutely starving because my breakfast was on the lighter side and I never had the chance to have a mid-morning snack, so I break into lunch early. A salad with lots of veggies, feta, some avocado, ranch dressing, and some leftover Crockpot BBQ Chicken that we made on Friday.
Continue to work, work, work while eating lunch and doing my usual routine!
2:00pm – In need of something warm, so I brew a little coffee + hot chocolate combo and sip on that for while. I also have some cottage cheese + blueberries for an afternoon snack (which likely would have been my morning snack).
3:30pm – Done with work for the day, and head back home to be greeted by my MIL and this cool guy, who are outside waiting for Lucas to get home from school.
3:50pm – Lucas gets home from school. It’s cold out, but it’s not raining, and I’m basically at the point these days where I suck it up for as long as I can and let the boys run around and get some fresh air. So we play outside and on the swingset for a while until we all start to agree (minus Alex) that it’s getting cold and time to head in.
4:20pm- On our way back inside, Lucas informs me that he’d like to make a Jack O’Lantern. Well, crap. I suppose we are running out of time at this point, but the timing is not the greatest. I know that if we wait until after dinner, it’s sure to be a nightmare, so I decide to break everything out and go for getting it done before we eat.
4:55pm – Jay gets home from work as we’re in the midst of working on our Jack O’Lanterns and joins in on the fun. The boys are both somewhat entertained, but are also starting to get hungry, so we work to finish up quickly.
5:15pm – The boys are definitely hangry by this point, and since I really had no plans for dinner (major fail) I wind up tossing some chicken nuggets in the microwave and pair them with some broccoli and guac. I mean, not my greatest showing on the dinner front, but they eat broccoli, so that works for me.
5:50pm – While I work on getting the boys to eat, Jay whips up a quick and delicious dish for us, including some chicken sausages, pierogies, and leftover green beans. He’s so handy to have around sometimes, I’ll tell ya!
Jay and I eat dinner and try to get a few words in with each other while the boys play.
6:30pm – I throw some candles into our newly carved Jack O’Lanterns and put them outside for the boys to see. They are both quite happy with them, so despite the chaos, I’m glad we squeezed it in.
6:45pm – Head upstairs to begin baths/showers/teeth brushing/jammies for the boys. Lucas is very much into showers these days, which I don’t mind because it actually makes things a little easier for them to be separate. Despite that, although the routine starts off fairly smooth, it ends in chaos. As usual.
Side note? I absolutely LOVE the Kids Shampoo and Kids Body Wash from Beautycounter. The scents are amazing, and a little bit goes a LONG way.
7:20pm – We’ve survived the bathing routine! Tonight is my night to read to Alex, so we say goodnight to Lucas and daddy, and then Alex and I rock together and read some stories.
7:40pm – Say goodnight to Alex, finally change out of my work clothes and into my cozies. Ahhhh. Chat with Jay for a few then head downstairs and start to clean up the house a bit.
8:00pm – I hear a noise upstairs and see Lucas is out of bed. Head back up, bring him back to bed, talk for a few minutes, then say goodnight again.
8:15pm – Sit down at the computer and begin typing up this post!
9:25pm – Finally at this point of the post. : ) Once I finish up this, I’ll be grabbing a snack (likely a yogurt with some chocolate chips or Oreos mixed in) and Jay and I will probably watch one of our shorter DVR’d shows before calling it a night (my guess is bed by about 10:30pm).
And there’s a look at my Monday! Hope you enjoyed following along. ; )

Phew girl. Seemed like a very busy day. You are like the energizer bunny. Keep going and going. Lol. Thank you for letting us be nosy. Now I need to be more productive. Oh and I love your hair. Have a great day.
Courtney says
Hahaha, thanks Jen! You too ;)

I love these posts! Do you work part time? That’s so awesome that you’re able to work but still be there to get Lucas on and off the bus. Seems like you have a great system! Also your hair always looks so good. How do you get it so smooth and yet voluminous at the same time? I have wavy hair and I don’t know how to use any styling tools…I’d love to hear more about how you do your hair and most important, how long it takes! I’m also a mom of two and mornings are crazy 😜
Courtney says
Thanks!! I still work the same amount of hours (35), I’ve just shifted them around a bit to accommodate for the time I’m volunteering on Mondays and for getting Lucas on/off the bus :) And thank you! I definitely do NOT have wavy hair , but I’m all about volumizing products and hairspray, haha. I also used a large barrel curling iron for my hair that day to help round out and smooth the ends, followed up with some root lifter and hairspray! On the days I wash/dry/style my hair, that part of the process probably takes about 25-30 extra minutes (which is why it definitely does not get done everyday ;)

Just curious how you got the 35 hour work week? Is it something offered by your company or something you negotiated. I think my ideal would be 30 hr a week, that would be sweet!
Courtney says
Yes, I’ve had that schedule since I returned from maternity leave with Lucas :)

I love seeing how other people live, LOL! It’s nosy but makes me feel like I “know” you, if that makes sense. I don’t have any kids and I consider my life crazy, so I give you major props for doing so much stuff with 2 small children in the house! You seem like a great mom. I’d love to hear more about your work schedule – I think you’ve mentioned you work part-time but was wondering about the flexibility and hours. I think it’s so great that you are able to work but also be home early enough to get Lucas off the bus. Anyway, enough rambling – thanks for sharing your day with all of us!!!

Just want to thank you for sharing your love for Fitness Blender workouts. I decided to follow suit a little over a month ago. I just recently finished up my first round of the FB Strong program and have decided to start it all over again! I’m about 4 workouts into the program again and I can definitely tell I have gained strength already. Some of the moves I struggled with the first time around are a little easier to do now – that’s so awesome! Like you, I like having my workout planned ahead of time so I don’t have to think about it. I really like Kelli and Daniel as trainers – they are great at what they do and I really like their focus on proper form over trying to lift like a hero with improper form. Question for you … would you say FB Mass is similar to FB Strong? Which did you like better? I’m looking forward to sticking with Fitness Blender through the winter months – I’m also from Upstate NY and we both know very well how long our winters can be lol
Courtney says
Hey Stacey! That’s so awesome you’ve been doing the workouts!! FB Mass is great – a little more strength/heavy lifting focused, with less cardio. They both certainly have their perks, and I actually think I like Mass better (just because I totally prefer strength training to cardio!). I’d definitely recommend trying FB Mass for your next round!! Now, here’s hoping we can survive another Upstate NY winter, haha ;)

Whew girl! Busy day! But it’s so sweet to see how you and Jay work together as a fam and to have both of your parents so close is so amazing, too! Also, this inspired me to finally carve the pumpkin that’s been sitting on my kitchen counter for like, a week now. Tis the season!
Sarah @ Sweet Miles says
Busy day mama! What is your typical work day like in the office? Are you working part time there and part time from home?
Courtney says
No I’m typically in the office – Mondays are just an exception since I volunteer in Lucas’s classroom :)
