It’s been about a month and a half since I last did a true Day in the Life, and I actually enjoy writing them just as much as I do reading them…so here’s a day in my life on Monday, to be exact!
4:25am – I wake up and hear Lucas having somewhat of a coughing fit on the monitor. He then starts to cry so I go in, give him some water and a few snuggles, then put him back down.
4:35am – Back in bed but, of course, can’t fall asleep right away because I’m watching Lucas on the monitor. He stirs around for a few minutes and then likely falls asleep, I assume, because I did the same.
5:15am – Alarm #1 goes off. Ooooof. Hit snooze.
5:24am – Alarm #2 goes off again. One more snooze.
5:35am – It’s decision time. Do I get up and get my workout in, or do I stay in bed for another 45 minutes. I’m actually feeling semi-awake, so I get up, get dressed, put in my contacts, and head to the basement.
5:45am – Workout time! This morning was a T25 video (Rip’T Circuit from the Beta phase) and it left me nice and sweaty.
6:20am – Chug some water, hop in the shower, brush teeth, put on makeup, and blow dry hair.
7:05am – Hear Lucas stirring on the monitor. Jay goes and gets him up and dressed while I iron clothes, get dressed, and quickly clean up the ends of my hair with the straightener (didn’t have time to curl it today).
- Sweater: H&M from about 3 years ago (similar)
- Pants: Kut From The Kloth Danny 5-Pocket Knit Pant via Stitch Fix
- Boots: Kaylor Slouchy boots via Target (which have certainly taken a beating this winter!)
7:15am – Little man comes in to greet me with me with big hugs and kisses. Love this boy! We all head to the kitchen to get him some milk and I finish packing and prepping lunches for us. Quickly realize I definitely should have spent the time doing it the night before…I hate when I hold off until the morning!
7:35am – Lunches are finally packed, attempt to wrangle up Lucas to get his boots and coat on, grab a handful of TJ’s schoolbook cookies because I’m starving and need something, and head out.
7:45am – We finally make it out of the driveway.
8:00am – Drop Lucas off at daycare (he runs right in today to go play with toys and that makes drop off on a Monday infinitely better), chat with his sitter briefly, then I’m off.
8:10am – Arrive at work, sit down at desk, turn on computer, do a quick check of urgent emails, etc., then head to the kitchen to heat up my breakfast (I’m still starving).
8:15am – Breakfast time. I have some Creamy Crockpot Steel Cut Oatmeal with banana slices and raisins, plus my mug of coffee (I seriously love this oatmeal), and eat while I continue to work through my stuff.
8:30am – Work, work, work!
10:30am – Time for a snack. I finish the other half of my banana from breakfast with some Saratoga Peanut Butter Company peanut butter and extra raisins.
12:00pm – I’m already hungry again and ready for lunch, so I break into my packed salad while I continue to work, knowing that I have to run out shortly. All of the usual suspects are in there – lettuce, spinach, cukes, tomatoes, onion, dried cranberries, avocado, and chicken.
I also have a pineapple flavored Elli Quark, but I’m not as much of a fan of this flavor as I was the others.
12:15pm – Once I finish my food, I quickly bundle up and head out to Target for a few things, one of them being a superhero shirt for Lucas since I noticed on his daycare calendar that Tuesday was “Wear a Superhero Shirt Day.”
It’s funny how your Target trips change quite a bit once kids are involved, isn’t it? Good news though, I found a Batman shirt!
1:15pm – Back to work, work, work.
2:30pm – I wind up having to do a bit of a tedious task this afternoon and find myself in need of a distraction, so I break out my trail mix for a little snack. It does the trick and helps power me through!
Love that stuff from TJ’s, by the way!
3:30pm – Work day is over – time to go pick up Lucas!
3:40pm – Arrive at sitter’s house, greeted with my happy boy, and chat a bit with his sitter about his day. He napped fairly well (a little over 2 hours) but was super picky with his food. Par for the course these days…time to head home.
4:05pm – Arrive at home, unload Lucas’s book bag and lunchbox, as well as my lunchbox. Take a few quick minutes to toss some things into the dishwasher while Lucas plays with his toys, but I’d really rather play with him, so the dishes can wait. Lucas is showing me he’s hungry (aka, he’s rather whiney) so I open up a Nutrigrain bar for him. He eats half and decides he’s done with it, so I finish the rest.
4:45pm – Play time gets moved into Lucas’s room and I multi-task while reading books and putting away his laundry.
This process takes much longer than it really should.
5:00pm – We head to the basement and throw in a load of laundry (which is super small, but I need to wash Lucas’s new shirt by tomorrow) and then Daddy arrives home!

5:15pm – Jay hangs with Lucas for a bit while I get dinner ready for all of us. Thankfully, I had prepped our dinner on Sunday and literally just had to throw it on the oven. So while that baked, I also cooked up some brown rice and sautéed some black beans for me and Jay, along with a little pasta and a hot dog for Lucas (since he’s ridiculously picky at the moment).
5:45pm – Dinner is served. We actually all get to sit down together tonight, which is a nice treat. It definitely doesn’t always happen this way.
6:15pm – Wash up some dishes from dinner, then it’s time to play with some cars and blocks.
7:00pm – Lucas is definitely ready for bed and it’s not a tubby night, so I bring him in to get changed, then Jay takes care of putting him to bed while I take care of some stuff on the computer.
7:15pm – Check through some blog stuff and emails and reach out to Michelle from Baby Bump Bundle. As a side note…
Thanks so much to all of you that entered the recent giveaway with Baby Bump Bundle and I hope you are loving the Tubby Time BabyBundle I created! 8:00pm – Get myself set up on Skype so I can get ready to chat with the one and only Katy. I’ve been working with Katy a bit on some backend blog stuff, and we spent a good hour or so chatting about a number of things that make my head spin, and make me equally excited at the same time.
9:05pm – Wrap up my call with Katy then head out to the living room with my laptop so I can sit with Jay and finish writing up my blog post from yesterday. By this time, we’re already an hour into The Bachelor, and while I know I should save it to watch the next day, I decide I can’t wait that long and turn it on to watch from the beginning. I also grab two Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies out of the freezer to snack on.
9:45pm – Finish writing up my blog post…The Bachelor is still going strong, though.
10:35pm – Finally finish watching The Bachelor (ahhhh, wasn’t sure I saw that ending coming!) then go to get ready for bed.
11:15pm – Way past my bedtime, but I’m in bed. Set the alarm for a little later because I know there’s no way I’m getting up for an early workout the next morning.
The End.
