As I was going through my closet at the beginning of this summer, I was quickly reminded of the mass clean-out that I did over the winter. I’ve long had a bad habit of holding on to things just because I “think” I’ll wind up wearing them at some point down the line. Or because they hold some sort of special meaning to me. Or…for no good reason at all.
So now that I’m getting better at getting rid of the things I truly don’t need (YAY), that also means that I’m in need of some new, updated items to take their place.
The thing is, though…I don’t want to be spending a ton of money on clothes these days. Sure, there was a time where I could spend endless hours at the mall, spending my entire paycheck at Express, Banana Republic, or wherever else was the store of choice at that time. But now there are things like diapers, and groceries, and home upkeep…you know, all of those fun adult things.
So now, I tend to shop at a couple of select stores, and I also love shopping online at thredUP.
I’ve blogged about thredUP in the past, and they are a service that I truly do enjoy. In case you haven’t heard of them (or have, but don’t totally know what the deal is), thredUP is the largest online thrift store, reselling clothing from more than 35,000 brands for up to 90% off the original retail value. They’re reinventing the secondhand clothing industry and inspiring a new generation of consumers to think secondhand first!
Not wanting to spend a ton of money, I decided to browse around on thredUP to see if I could come up with a few new outfits for the summer, but under one condition…the outfits had to come out to be $50 or LESS. So I went ahead and picked out a number of different pieces I thought (and hoped!) would work out.
Check out those savings!!!!
Some of the items, unfortunately, just didn’t fit the way I had hoped (still working on finding a romper that I love!). But thankfully, thredUP offers super easy returns so it was really as simple as printing out a return shipping label and sending back what didn’t work. Easy peasy.
BUT, there were definitely a few items that arrived that I loved AND was able to put together a look (or, rather, three of them!), all under $50!
So here’s a peek at what I found and put together…
Outfit #1 – Casual/Weekend/Work from Home
Top: Victoria’s Secret………………………………$8.99 (normally $30.00)
Jeans: Gap………………………………………….$17.99 (normally $70.00)
Sandals: Steve Madden…………………………….$15.99 (normally $54.00)
Outfit Total: $42.97

Outfit #2 – Date Night/out with Friends
Top: Banana Republic………………………………$18.99 (normally $54.00)
Shorts: The Limited………………………………….$14.99 (normally $60.00)
Sandals: Steve Madden……………………………..$15.99 (normally $54.00)
Outfit Total: $49.97

Outfit #3 – Dress for Vacation
Dress: H&M……………………………………………$11.99 (normally $35.00)

As you can see, I was able to use the same pair of sandals in each of my outfits and I am obsessed with them. They were barely used and basically brand new! In fact, all of the items that I received were basically like-new, and thredUP always triple inspects each item by hand to ensure all the clothes are the highest quality and suitable for resale (many are even brand new with tags!).
Try thredUP for a steal!
thredUP is offering Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life readers a special discount! The first 100 people to use my code STSL40 will get an extra 40% off their first order! (Applies to new US customers only. Discount up to $50).

The different options is so great! I only use Thredup for workout clothes but I clearly need to expand!
I love Thredup, I pretty much always have a bag going of stuff to sell to them and I get all of my jeans there – they always seem like new and are so discounted! I love your outfit #1!
Thread Up has some great finds for sure. I’ve scored a ton of great Lululemon items and clothes for my two-year-old son that are brand-new! I love the dress, so perfect for the summer!
Love those light jeans. You pull off stripes so well! Ive never bought from Thredup, but I sent my clothes in once!
I love ThredUp! I literally cannot shop in malls – I lose my mind. So this website is a lifesaver. Otherwise I would probably wear my same old clothes forever.
That dress looks like it’s perfect for summer – flowy and cool. Since I’m currently on a student budget I also like to make sure that I can use pieces that I buy in multiple outfits.
I’m bad at hanging onto clothes for too long too, though I am starting to get a bit better at letting go of things.
I love ThredUp, I found some sweet Nike capris for my sister there and am regretting not ordering myself a similar pair! Maybe next time :)
You should try the app Poshmark! It’s sort of like eBay but for clothes, shoes & accessories. You can make lower offers on listed items, kind of like bartering. I had a pair of gladiator sandals I was obsessed with and completely wore out. They fit so comfortably and went with everything, so I really wanted more of that exact style. I’ve since found 2 more pairs on poshmark for under $10 in almost brand new condition-These were $85 sandals originally! Same with Steve Madden boots. $20 for a pair of $100+ boots barely worn. If you know your size in whatever style, it’s great bc sadly they don’t let u return (unless something is wrong with it).
I LOVE ThredUp! I’m going to be using it this summer for maternity clothes for SURE!
I love those jeans! I just ordered from ThredUp last week. Excited to see what I get =)
