So before we get to the “meat and potatoes” of today’s post, if you will, I just want to address something real quick. You’ve probably noticed lately that there’s been a pretty good amount of sponsored posts and/or content around here the past few weeks, and I just want to say that I know it’s sort of lame that they’ve seemed to all pile up right around each other. (Yes I have another one today…but I promise, it’s an awesome giveaway!)
I realize that sponsored posts aren’t for everyone, and it can be kind of a drag to see a bunch of them one right after the other. I totally get it. I usually try my best to space things out as much as possible, but sometimes it’s out of my control and I have deadlines to follow (and sometimes, I suddenly realize that it’s just me that’s totally forgotten about something…I’ll definitely take ownership of that!). I’m trying to be very mindful of this moving forward.
But because I enjoy working with different brands and trying out new things, there will still be sponsored content around here from time to time. The truth is, they do help support this blog, and I am forever appreciative for those of you who continue to come back and read. But I hope you all know that I will only continue to work with and promote different brands and companies that I absolutely love (or, if I’m reviewing, really interested in trying out).

You may remember when I was doing my recap post from IDEA World that I had the opportunity to interview the one and only Amy Dixon.
Amy and I have stayed in touch a bit since, and because we really just sort of chit-chatted back and forth while we were together, I decided to ask her if she’d be willing to share five of her absolute BEST fitness tips so that I could then share them with all of you.
So here are Amy’s Top 5 Fitness Tips…suitable for the experienced, newbies, and everyone in between!
Amy’s Top 5 Fitness Tips

1. Intensity is everything.
Anytime you work out, have a clear goal in mind when it comes to intensity. How you feel is everything. If it doesn’t feel hard, it isn’t! And what doesn’t challenge you won’t change you. (<—I love this!)
2. Never fall for the all or nothing rule.
Amy said she sees a lot of people that choose not to workout unless they have 60 minutes. (Oh gosh, would I be screwed). It’s important to remember that ANY exercise is better than ZERO exercise. So choose to move even if it is only for 10 minutes.
Some of my favorite quickie workouts that may be of interest to you!…
3. Rest.
After you finish your workout, your body undergoes a repair process to help you gain more endurance and strength. If you really want to reap the rewards of your workouts, you need to rest your muscles. Add at least 1-2 rest days per week.
4. Everything in moderation.
Constant restriction of all things will inevitably lead to you “falling off the wagon.” To avoid the constant guilt cycle, allow yourself to “splurge” now and then, you will definitely reap the rewards of truly letting go once and a while, which is a huge mental victory. (I totally agree with this, and I’d also add to this that I often love the phrase “everything in moderation…including moderation!).
5. Strength training is the fountain of youth.
From strengthening your bones to benefiting your heart and improving your balance, no other single activity has more of a positive impact on your mind and body then strength training.

It’s funny you mention doing something is better then nothing. I just had that same thought yesterday while riding my horse! I didn’t have time to get in a good ride on her but didn’t want to not ride. My exact thought was “It’s better to ride her for 30 mins then not to ride her at all. Great fitness tips! The “never fall for the all or nothing rule” is something that I’ve had to learn. Wow, so glad I saw this post from loving Amy on facebook! I have many of her workouts and love her! She is so genuine! I agree with those 5 hints and I agree…anything is better than nothing, and everything in moderation…life is too short. I eat my potato chips, my dessert and have a beer or wine almost daily. I also workout…..almost daily. Love cardio, HiiT, tabata, but heavy weights…my fav!

What an awesome giveaway. I completely agree with the some exercise is better than zero exercise. There are days when all I have time to fit in is a 12 minute HIIT routine, it gets my heart rate up and sets a positive tone for the rest of the day!

I had a gym membership and really enjoyed all of the classes and the motivation. Because of work slowing down for my husband I have cancelled the gym membership and am trying to build my workout dvd collection. I love to workout so I am going to continue to do my favorite classes at home.

I love Amy Dixon’s DVDs! I’d love to win pretty much any of this (except I already have Breathless Body Vol 1). I especially appreciate the reminder that a little exercise is better than none. I tend to think a workout is not going to be worth it if I don’t have an hour to devote. Amy’s Give Me 10 is great to fit in a workout in whatever time I HAVE!

Something positive: I am feeling more positive just from reading Amy’s tips. She’s a great trainer. I think the area I want to work on is intensity. Also, I’ve been in a bit of a slump fitness wise and getting back to it–remembering that it’s not all or nothing–is a priority. I’d love to win the cute tank and Propel products and I’m interested in the HIIT workouts since they combine intensity (which I need) and length that works for my busy schedule as a working mom.
